Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Then Live with Me

"I’m afraid I’ll never experience the joy of this."

Annabelle Linton spoke with a sense of resignation. As she tried to stand, her body swayed unsteadily again.

Aaron Wyatt quickly pulled her into an embrace. In his heart and in his eyes, it was as if she was the only one who existed. "There, there," he said softly, "don’t be scared. Let’s head back. We’ll stop for today."

"Mm."

With that, he took Annabelle Linton’s hand, and they slowly made their way back.

Afraid of falling, Annabelle Linton gripped his hand tightly.

’There were so many people here, after all. Falling would be so embarrassing.’

Aaron Wyatt looked on gently as Annabelle Linton clutched his hand.

Annabelle’s fingers were long, fair, and soft.

His large hand enveloped her small one, and a strange sense of satisfaction washed over him. The warmth of her touch sent a jolt, like an electric current, straight to his heart.

Aaron Wyatt looked at the intimate gesture, one usually reserved for couples. As if struck by a thought, a faint, captivating smile played on his lips.

’Today, I didn’t just hold Annabelle’s hand—I got to hug her, too.’

’That was the first time I’ve ever hugged Annabelle.’

"Annabelle, are you going back to stay at the hospital again tonight?"

Annabelle Linton faltered for a second before resuming her skating as if nothing was wrong. "Yeah. Our family home was acquired, so I don’t have anywhere to go. I’m looking for a new place."

"Then come live with me." Aaron Wyatt looked at her, offering a generous invitation. "You’ve been to my apartment. It’s huge, more than big enough for you and Ryan. If we live together, we can go back to how things were, spending every day together. And don’t worry, I’ll take care of all the cooking and cleaning. What do you think?"

Annabelle Linton managed a small smile, lowering her gaze to hide the panic in her eyes. "There’s no need. The hospital is too far from your apartment; it would be inconvenient for me to get to work. I want to find a place closer to the hospital. I can walk there every day, and it’ll be good exercise." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"But I could drive you there every day. And then I could pick you up from work in the evening. It’d be just like when we were in Albion, going to and from school together."

"I’d rather not," Annabelle Linton said, looking at him as she came up with a plausible-sounding excuse. "Starting today, I need to learn to be independent. I always used to rely on you, and I feel so useless. If this goes on, I’ll become dependent on you. We each have our own lives, and I can’t keep relying on you forever."

As Annabelle Linton spoke, she thought, ’I need to talk to Grandpa about this right away.’

’If this goes on any longer, the secret will be out.’

’Grandpa only said that the other day because he didn’t want her and Leona Grant to get divorced. He wouldn’t really make them live in the old residence forever.’

’In a couple of days, once she and Leona Grant move out of the old residence, she would also move out from the family home.’

’She didn’t want Aaron Wyatt to find out about her relationship with Leona Grant.’

Aaron Wyatt glanced back at Annabelle Linton, who had her eyes lowered, cautiously sliding forward one small step at a time.

’Hearing what she’d just said,’ he thought, ’I want to tell her that, actually, I would be happy to take care of her for the rest of my life.’

But the words that reached his lips remained unspoken.

Holding her hand, a faint, distant look filled Aaron Wyatt’s eyes...

He had no family, no friends, and had always lived a lonely life.

Until seven years ago, when a special girl burst into his life, disrupting his entire rhythm.

He had already forgotten when, exactly, he had started to fall for Annabelle.

He only knew that from the moment she left three years ago, there wasn’t a single second he didn’t spend thinking about her.
