Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 23: She Successfully Piqued His Interest
After saying her piece, Annabelle Linton pushed him aside and walked away, her face void of expression.
Leon Grant’s face was livid—
’What does she mean I’m not even something she thinks about?’
’In her eyes, am I worth less than a random stranger?’
Leon Grant viciously kicked a large, nearby tree to vent his frustration. He had no idea why he was so furious.
She used to hang on his every word, but now it was as if she’d grown thorns. Leon Grant chalked his anger up to being defied.
’That damn woman. She’s good for nothing but pissing me off. Does she think I actually want her?’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
’Does she think I don’t want to divorce her?!’
Leon Grant started walking back with a look of displeasure, when he suddenly overheard a conversation between two maids.
"Sigh... have you noticed the Young Madam seems like a completely different person lately?"
"Of course I have. How could anyone miss such a huge change? She still treats us maids the same as always, but have you noticed how much colder she’s become toward the Young Master?"
"I noticed that a long time ago. The Young Madam is a pitiful one. Ever since she married the Young Master, he’s never once treated her kindly. Let me tell you, I’ve got it all figured out. The Young Madam started changing the day the Young Master framed her for pushing Miss Yates down the stairs. That whole story about her overdosing on sleeping pills was a lie. I bet she tried to kill herself and failed, but her heart died in the process."
Leon Grant listened to their conversation and nodded slightly. He’d had the same thought.
’But... has her heart truly died?’
An unidentifiable emotion flickered through Leon Grant, but it was gone in an instant, too fleeting for him to grasp.
The maids hadn’t noticed Leon Grant and continued their conversation.
"That may be true, but I think it’s just a temporary phase. Over the past two years, I’ve seen how the Young Madam feels about the Young Master. I heard they’ve been engaged since they were children, and she’s always been completely devoted to him. After so many years of affection, how could she lose heart over something so small?"
"You think so too?"
Leon Grant suddenly interjected as the two maids were talking.
’Ha. He knew it. There was no way that woman could just hate him like that.’
Perhaps it was his vanity being satisfied, but for some reason, hearing those words stirred a strange feeling within him.
The sudden voice made the two maids freeze on the spot.
The maid turned around slowly, her face pale.
Leon Grant seemed to be in a good mood. He looked at the maid who had just spoken and repeated, "Why do you think that?"
"Young Master, I was wrong! I’ll never dare to do it again... Please, forgive me this one time. I’ll do my work properly and keep my mouth shut from now on... Please don’t throw me out."
"Who said anything about throwing you out?" Leon Grant said, his patience clearly wearing thin. "Don’t make me repeat myself."
The maid was still terrified. "Young Master..."
"Do you not want your job anymore?"
The maid looked up in terror. Seeing Leon Grant’s impatient expression, she sensed he wasn’t actually angry and began to speak, trembling, "Young Master... I just think the Young Madam still has feelings for you. No matter what, feelings from that many years can’t just disappear overnight. The Young Madam is probably just upset that you wrongly accused her this time. After all, she loves you so much."
’Loves?’
The corners of Leon Grant’s mouth lifted into a smirk.
’Ha. He knew it.’
’Annabelle Linton, oh, Annabelle Linton. And here I was, wondering what kind of trick you had up your sleeve. So, this is all just a fit of jealousy.’
And yet, watching her over the past two days, Leon Grant felt it wasn’t quite as simple as jealousy.
’After all, she loves him so much. But her act these past two days was a bit over the top—she even dared to mention divorce!’
’But there was no denying it. She had succeeded.’
’She had successfully piqued his interest.’
