Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 38: She Smiled as if She Had Never Been Hurt
Annabelle Linton said nothing.
"Hey, why are you ignoring me? I’m not a bad guy."
’...Who knows if that’s true,’ she thought.
"Where are you headed? Get in, I’ll give you a lift," Chase Lynch said assertively.
...
No matter what he said, Annabelle kept walking forward with a placid expression.
She despised these rich, powerful second-generation heirs. In her eyes, he was just as detestable as Leona Grant.
"Hey, I just want to get to know you. I don’t have any bad intentions, so don’t be so on guard."
Seeing that Annabelle was ignoring him, Chase Lynch suddenly accelerated and blocked her path. "I just want to help you out. Are you sure you don’t want to get in?"
Annabelle didn’t even spare him a glance.
Chase Lynch suddenly stopped the car. A smirk touched his lips as he called out to her slender figure, "Oh, right. I forgot to tell you, it’s really hard to get a taxi around here. The bus only comes once every two hours. It’s ten-thirty now. It’ll take you half an hour to walk out of this area, and by then, the bus will have just left. That means you’ll waste a total of two and a half hours."
After speaking, he glanced at the gift in Annabelle’s hands and added with a mock threat, "But hey, if you don’t want a ride, that’s fine. Good luck."
With that, he started the engine, preparing to leave.
Annabelle used to take the Grant Family’s car, so she had never really paid attention to this problem before.
However...
’Two and a half hours?’
’By the time I get a ride to the old residence, it’ll be another half an hour. Doesn’t that mean I’ll have wasted more than three hours in total?’
’If I’m a full three hours late, what’s the point of even going?’
’To get the cold shoulder?’
"Wait!" Annabelle called out to him. "Why do you want to help me?"
She didn’t understand. She couldn’t figure out why a complete stranger would want to help her.
"Because I’m a kind person."

’That’s enough...’
After weighing her options, she finally gave in to the time pressure and got into Chase Lynch’s car.
"Just drop me off at Emberwood Gardens."
"Oh, okay."
As the car drove on, the two sat in silence. Chase Lynch glanced at the gift in her hands and asked, "A gift for a friend?"
Annabelle opened her eyes and gave a perfunctory "Mhm."
And with that, the conversation died again.
"Can you tell me why you were so angry just now?"
Annabelle frowned, saying impatiently, "Just focus on driving."
Chase Lynch wasn’t discouraged by Annabelle’s coldness. He asked good-naturedly, "Want to listen to some music?"
Annabelle closed her eyes to rest, not saying a word.
Chase Lynch put on a piano piece by Beethoven.
It was a very sorrowful piece. As the melancholic melody filled the car, Annabelle’s thoughts drifted to her past life.
Slowly, her initially calm heart began to sink.
Her mood grew heavy.
Leona Grant’s behavior just now reminded her of the past life she had endured.
Back then, her life had been filled with injustice.
Everyone in her family had disliked and targeted her. Vivian Yates constantly framed her, while Leona Grant never believed a word she said, always taking Vivian’s side without a second thought and treating her with an icy demeanor.
Later, after the Linton Family fell, her life became even more agonizing. Even then, she never thought of giving up. She continued to treat Leona Grant with tenderness, doing everything in her power to give him the best of everything.
Thinking about it now, she found it all rather laughable. She had lost everything—family and friends alike—all for a man who didn’t love her.
Thankfully, she now had a chance to start over. In just a couple more days, she would be able to cut all ties with that man.
She believed that in the future, without Leona Grant, her path forward would be strewn with blooming flowers, bright and beautiful wherever it led.
As Annabelle thought of this, the corners of her lips unconsciously tilted up.
A faint smile graced her features, as if she had never been hurt at all.
Watching Annabelle’s smile, Chase Lynch couldn’t help but feel a little puzzled.
