Remarried Wife: She will Remarry, But Another Person-Chapter 9: Yeah, I Like It
Turns out that in the evening, when everyone clocked out and was getting ready to come here together, they happened to bump into Brooke who was about to leave.
She learned that everyone was heading out for a dinner party, and eagerly expressed her desire to join.
"She said she would treat us. The CEO was also present and intended to come along, so it was hard for us to refuse... But Sabrina, please believe us, we clearly stated at the time that it was your farewell party, not once did we mention it was a ’welcome party.’"
Rhiannon quickly explained the reason, fearing that Sabrina Hayes might misunderstand and get upset.
Sabrina’s face slightly darkened, and she didn’t respond immediately.
She knew at heart that they shouldn’t be blamed for this.
They meant well, never expecting Brooke Sinclairs to forcibly intervene.
That woman was obviously doing it on purpose!
The atmosphere in the private room was now somewhat stagnant.
Yet Brooke, as if oblivious, casually and calmly took Jordan Hawthorne’s hand and sat down in the two adjacent empty seats.
She intentionally separated Sabrina Hayes from Jordan Hawthorne.
Then, she gracefully smiled at everyone, asking, "Has everyone ordered?"
"Not yet..."
The colleagues awkwardly replied.
Brooke nodded and smiled, "Let me help everyone order, if you don’t mind?"
With Jordan Hawthorne present, who would dare to mind?
Brooke clearly knew this, yet didn’t forget to smooth things over, explaining, "I’m very familiar with this restaurant—I used to come here often with Jordan during high school, so I know which dishes are signature ones. Everyone must have a taste later."
After saying this, she quickly ordered the dishes regardless of the reactions from those present.
During this, she intentionally leaned towards Jordan, speaking somewhat affectionately, "Your palate hasn’t changed, has it? I’ve ordered a few of your old favorites; do you still like them?"
Jordan appeared to be somewhat pleased, his expression softened.
He replied warmly, "Yes, I like them."
Brooke instantly gave a charming smile.
Everyone in the room saw the interaction between the two.
They exchanged knowing glances.
As it turns out, the rumors are indeed true—the CEO holds a very special regard for this new director.
Some were already reevaluating Brooke Sinclairs’ status and importance in their minds.
Sabrina felt a wave of disgust, losing her appetite for the dinner tonight.
She wanted to get up and leave, unwilling to stay in such an irritating environment.
Just as she was about to get up, Rhiannon Shepherd, beside her, handed her a different menu, concernedly saying, "Sabrina, I remember you like fish and sweet and sour ribs. Shall I order them for you?"
With her reminder, everyone’s attention naturally returned.
After all, tonight’s main character should have been Sabrina Hayes.
And so, the others chimed in, "It must be ordered!"
Before Sabrina could say anything, Brooke already interjected, "Oh, I forgot to ask Sabrina what she likes to eat. Although you are leaving, I still want to thank you for your past contributions to the lab!
Tonight, eat to your heart’s content—it’s on me... consider it a ’send-off’!"
She bit down hard on the words ’send-off,’ her tone seemingly apologetic. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
However, Sabrina detected a hint of barely noticeable triumph in her eyes.
Sabrina looked coldly at her.
This woman... sure knows how to act.
Her acting skills were almost Oscar-worthy.
But Sabrina was not buying it.
Sabrina coldly spoke, "I don’t know Miss Sinclairs, nor have I worked with her, so even if it’s a ’send-off,’ it wouldn’t be your place to do it!"
Upon hearing her words, Brooke was momentarily stunned, then her expression became somewhat aggrieved and bewildered.
"Sorry, I was too abrupt, but I meant no harm, I just feel that this position was originally yours, now that I have taken over and you are leaving, I should see you off..."
With that, she suddenly bowed her head as if she had done something wrong, saying, "Is Sabrina angry with me? Should I not have taken the director position?"
Sabrina was caught off guard by her self-directed performance.
Before she could speak, Jordan already frowned and interjected, "You definitely deserve the position!"
Then, his gaze sharply swept over, scolding, "Sabrina Hayes, don’t be unreasonable. Brooke is kindly treating you, what kind of attitude is this?"
Sabrina saw him unhesitatingly defending Brooke, and instantly felt a surge of anger.
Clearly, she was supposed to be the main character of this gathering; Brooke Sinclairs was the one who chose to crash it, yet he selectively ignored, acting as if he hadn’t seen.
She wondered why she failed to see, earlier, how blind his heart was to what was happening...
Sabrina originally didn’t plan to continue enduring, but Rhiannon Shepherd beside her was frightened.
This was the CEO of The Hawthorne Group, the richest man in Veridia!
Making him angry wouldn’t lead to anything good!
Especially when Sabrina had already resigned.
If he decided to blacklist her in the industry, it would be done within minutes!
She hastily grabbed Sabrina and said, "CEO, Sabrina didn’t mean it, please don’t be angry... She’s poured countless effort and time into the lab over the years, now that she’s resigning, she does have some reluctance in her heart, so her words were rash, hope you won’t mind..."
Colleagues nearby also echoed Rhiannon’s sentiments, "Yes, CEO, you’re generous, please forgive her."
"Director Sinclairs, Sabrina didn’t mean anything by it, don’t misunderstand..."
Everyone helped smooth things over.
Just then, the waiter came over with the dishes, skillfully defusing the awkward and tense atmosphere.
Those with a keen eye praised the food and found an opportunity to flatter while toasting Jordan Hawthorne and Brooke Sinclairs.
Seeing this, Jordan finally withdrew his gaze coldly and didn’t pursue the matter further.
Rhiannon let out a sigh of relief, promptly helping Sabrina with some dishes, softly comforting her, "Don’t act impulsively, they aren’t people we can afford to offend, so bear it for now to avoid impacting future work..."
Sabrina recognized her thoughtfulness and goodwill, barely managing to suppress her emotions, not walking away right then.
Years ago, when she first joined Hawthorne, Rhiannon helped her quite a bit.
This time, she’d offer her face!
Before long, the meal began.
The atmosphere at the table gradually livened as a few glasses of wine were consumed.
Jordan Hawthorne, normally aloof and highly regarded, came down for Brooke today, emboldening many to come up repeatedly to toast.
Brooke saw this and raised her hand to stop them, saying, "Jordan doesn’t have a great stomach, he shouldn’t drink too much, I’ll drink for him."
She acted very straightforwardly, taking the glass and downing it in one go.
Jordan didn’t stop her, watching with increasingly gentle eyes.
He quietly reminded her, "You shouldn’t drink too much either, be careful not to get drunk."
Brooke laughed and winked, saying, "I’m much better at drinking now, I won’t get drunk!"
Jordan gave a tolerating smile, not saying more.
The atmosphere between them completely excluded others.
Sabrina found the scene really ironic.
Jordan Hawthorne had a poor stomach; she had spent three years consistently preparing medicated meals for him daily, helping him heal bit by bit.
Yet, he never gave her such a kind look.
As if whatever she did was naturally expected!
Now, Brooke Sinclairs was merely blocking a drink for him, and he was utterly moved.
The allure of a "white moonlight" first love was indeed different!
Sabrina suddenly felt nauseous.
Whether it was the alcohol she just consumed, she felt uncomfortable in her stomach, deciding to head to the restroom.
However, even after going, nothing came out.
Her face was somewhat pale as she leaned against the wall, taking quite some time to recover; she only returned to the room once the dinner was nearly done.
She intended to leave right away.
Unexpectedly, just as she pushed open the door, she came upon Jordan Hawthorne and Brooke Sinclairs hugging...
