Return of the Legendary Runesmith-Chapter 495 - 494- I will do something
After his conversation with Elana and deciding when they would depart, Adrian skipped lunch altogether and returned straight to his room.
He was short on time and needed to be somewhere urgently. If he actually felt hungry during the trip then there was some snacks stored in his Inventory.
Soon, he reached his room and as expected, Ariana was already waiting for him.
"What kept you so long?" she asked, brows raised. She could faintly smell coffee on him.
"I was just talking with Elana and informed her when I could spare some time to meet her father," Adrian replied before asking, "Where is Annabelle?"
Ariana sighed. "Still in the bathroom. Probably sleeping."
Adrian gave a wry smile. While he, Ariana, and Ruby had to leave for their respective duties, Annabelle at least had the luxury of sleeping for a few hours.
Even so, those precious hours were clearly not enough for her.
Rolling up her sleeves, Ariana said, "You get changed. I will drag that spoiled child out." With that, she marched straight into the bathroom.
"Aaaah! Please, no! I do not want to! Nnn… Ariana is a bully…"
Annabelle's muffled protests echoed out, but Adrian knew better than to expect mercy when Ariana had set her mind on something.
Chuckling, he turned toward the wardrobe and scanned his clothes.
He actually had so many clothes on him now that he was having a hard time to decide.
Both Ruby and Ariana has a habit to gift him formal clothes without any occassion. They say, whenever their eyes land on a good attire they instantly think how good it would appear on him.
And because of that, he was now thinking of having another wardrobe just for his formal clothes.
In the end, he went with a plan black shirt and black pants with a grey long coat. Nothing too fancy but surely comfortable.
Taking the clothes out, he began to take off his shirt.
As he did, he checked the group chat.
A few people were already active.
Scarlette: [Yes, it is spreading fast.]
Valor: [That is concerning. I wish I could help.]
Dark Knight: [Perhaps Forgelet might have a solution?]
Forgelet: [I need to assess the situation there first. Only then can I tell whether I can invent something useful.]
Adrian hummed before typing, 'What is the matter?'
Valor: [Hello, Avirin!]
Dark Knight: [Greetings.]
Scarlette: [Hello, Avirin. I was telling them about the rising temperature in my world. Something has changed recently.]
Adrian recalled Scarlette mentioning before that her planet's temperature was far higher than most. That explained why she often requested cooling artifacts from him in the past.
But still.
'Do you know the cause? Have you not identified it yet?'
Scarlette: [We know the cause. We simply cannot reach it.]
Adrian tilted his head, his fingers pausing mid-motion as he asked, 'What do you mean you cannot reach it?'
Forgelet: [The cause of the heightened temperature in her world is a specific flower, which they call the Pyro Bloom, that bloomed roughly fifty years ago on her planet. That plant does nothing except absorb heat from the sun and distribute it across the entire world.]
Adrian was momentarily stunned. 'Something like that…'
Scarlette: [Yes. And not only that, it absorbs heat even at night and continues to nourish itself every single second of the day.]
The description left Adrian genuinely baffled. He had never encountered anything remotely similar in any book he had read.
After a brief pause, he asked, 'What changed all of a sudden?'
Scarlette informed him,
[Pyro Bloom has been growing visibly over the past few weeks, making it seem as though it is nearing maturity.]
After a brief pause, she added,
[In the past, when we still had the chance to erase it, people called it a blessing of God. Now, we cannot even reach it.]
Adrian was not surprised by her words. He had heard far more excessive superstition in his life to be shaken by something like that.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "What grade of armament was used against it?"
[Grade Three. It did nothing except coat the damn flower with a thin layer of ice, which melted instantly.]
"And when did this happen?"
[About a week ago. Why?]
Adrian sat on the bed and began putting on his socks. As he did, he said, "That tells me there is still some hope, if a higher-grade armament is wielded by a strong sorcerer."
Forgelet: [But even that must be done quickly, Adrian. The flower is entering its blooming phase.]
Adrian hummed and sat in silence for a few seconds.
Then he read another message from Scarlette,
[Avirin… the situation is dire on my side. If you can do something about this, then please, help me.]
Adrian's lips parted slightly. He had never heard Scarlette sound so desperate.
She had always been proud and confident. For her to appear this weak and cornered…
He sighed and replied, "I will be there in a few hours."
Once he finished his business with Borodicus Clark, he would have some time to spare.
Yes, he had promised to spend the evening with Ruby, but the situation was serious, and he knew his fiancée would understand if he explained things calmly.
Just then, "Darling?" With a towel wrapped around her body and hair, Annabelle stepped out of the bathroom. "What did you just say on the chat?"
Adrian calmly finished putting on his shoes and replied, "It's important, Bella."
Ariana, who stepped out shortly after, frowned. "That world is burning, Adrian. Those people have adapted with time, but not you."
Annabelle had apparently told her everything.
Well, Adrian would have told her anyway.
Turning to look at them, he said, "Scarlette has helped me a few times in the past as well. And it's not like my role is to fight the danger. I'm sure she'll prepare a suitable workshop where I'll just create a few armaments and return."
Ariana's frown was replaced by a comforting look as she said, "I am not going to stop you, Adrian but please pay attention to your physical limits, okay? If things grow out of control remember about us...those who are waiting for you back home."
Adrian fondly smiled and advanced toward her.
Cupping her cheeks, he said, "Of course, how can I forget about that."
"False! Darling gets too drowned in his creations to focus on anything else." Annabelle complained from the side.
Adrian chuckled and said, "Get dressed first and save your complaints for later. We are getting late."
