Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 83: He comes again
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you ..."
The song woke Valerie from her deep sleep. She quickly sat up and noticed her family filling her room, even Daniel being carried by Hannah though he had slept with her before.
"Make a wish!" Adriana sat on the edge of the bed, presenting a chocolate cake with cream forming the words "Happy Birthday Valerie" to Valerie. "Make your wish."
"Umm..." Valerie felt nervous, brushing her hair aside as she gazed at the 25-shaped candles, then closed her eyes. ’God, I don’t want anything. Just keep me and my family healthy and safe... Guide me towards goodness... Calm my heart.’
She opened her eyes again and blew out the candles.
"Yeah, happy birthday!" Everyone cheered, applauding.
They all exchanged congratulations, and gifts, and ate cake together in the dining room, even enjoying breakfast dishes that had been prepared who knows when.
That morning she felt the warmth of family, slowly forgetting her problems with Damian until they all left to start their activities.
She asked Hannah to take Daniel to daycare with Jerry, then thought about getting back to work and talking to the director from Korea.
"When will the drama start airing?" she asked, sitting on the living room couch.
"Maybe next month, we’re going to Korea," Sandy answered from the phone.
"I didn’t expect to go there again."
"Uh, are you going with... Damian?"
"No..." Valerie shook her head anxiously. "I won’t be with him, maybe I’ll take my sister or Hannah."
"Why? Isn’t everything better when you’re with Damian? He can afford anything you need here... the best hotels, first-class flights..."
"Sandy, I don’t want that," Valerie said, cutting off Sandy before he could finish his sentence. "Please, don’t talk about him... He won’t be involved in our projects," she continued, sounding frustrated.
"Okay..."
Valerie let out a rough breath, her gaze straight ahead until she spotted a car stopping in the driveway.
"Someone’s here," she said, standing up. "We’ll talk later," she continued, ending the call and placing her phone on the table.
She walked to the terrace, and saw Samuel getting out of the car.
’He’s here... How does he know I’m here?’ she wondered, watching Samuel approach with a large gray paper bag in his right hand and another medium-sized one in his left.
"Hey..." Samuel greeted with an awkward smile, noticing Valerie looking so elegant in her knee-length white dress.
"Hey..." Valerie swallowed nervously, feeling a bit awkward remembering the last time they met. "Long time no see..."
"You disappeared suddenly, that’s why I couldn’t see you anymore," Samuel said, then lifted the large paper bag in his left hand. "But luckily I knew you were here yesterday... I saw you at the supermarket with Adriana and a man... So I could come now... For your birthday," he continued, raising his eyebrows, then offering the paper bag to Valerie.
Valerie took the paper bag hesitantly, feeling undeserving of it because she had disappointed Samuel.
"Happy birthday," Samuel said.
"I didn’t expect you to remember my birthday since I disappointed you..."
"I’ll always remember... you’re my best girl."
"You don’t have to do this," Valerie replied with a sad look. "I’ve been too bad to you... I..."
"You’re just doing what makes you happy, so I don’t mind," Samuel said, not letting Valerie finish her sentence. He looked at her beautiful face with simple makeup and let her long hair loose. "I appreciate your decision to distance yourself from me... maybe you feel uncomfortable because I’ve expressed my feelings for you... Maybe you feel disgusted or..."
"Samuel, I don’t feel like that..." Valerie shook her head. "I distanced myself because I want peace. You know, when you often meet me, you’ll get punches from Damian... The atmosphere gets heated... messy... I don’t want that to keep happening."
Samuel nodded.
Valerie shifted her gaze to the contents of the paper bag, finding a white box inside, so she quickly took it and saw it contained a pair of white shoes with black patterns.
"I didn’t know if you would wear these shoes or not because you’re hiding... You rarely go out for long walks," Samuel said with a shy smile, putting his hands in the matching gray pants pockets.
Valerie laughed, closing the box again and looking at Samuel. "I’ll wear the shoes often because I’m not hiding anymore... I’ll go out often..."
"Really?"
"Umh..." Valerie nodded with a cheerful smile. "I think there’s no point in hiding because it will make Daniel less social. I don’t want to be selfish just for my comfort... I’m a mother..."
Samuel smiled, seemingly relieved by Valerie’s attitude towards him.
"You look cheerful. Did you get a special gift from Damian?" he asked.
"Um..." Valerie’s smile immediately faded.
"Aren’t you back together? I thought that’s why you’re avoiding me..."
"No, that’s not true..." Valerie shook her head. "I do want to be alone... and... Damian never changes." She explained, her face grim, recalling Clara’s issue.
"He never changes? What happened?" Samuel asked, raising his eyebrows.
Valerie fell silent, seeming hesitant to tell him.
"Samuel!"
They heard the yell from the neighboring house, seeing it was Gea walking towards them.
"Gea’s here," Samuel muttered.
"Yes... She lives there with Jerry. And now Jerry is taking Daniel to daycare with Hannah," Valerie explained as she watched Gea getting closer.
Samuel fell silent, his face looking uncomfortable as if he didn’t like Gea’s presence.
"I didn’t expect to see you here," Gea said, quickly positioning herself next to Valerie but looking at Samuel somewhat sarcastically. "My guess was right... You resigned from your previous job just to come here, to follow Valerie..."
"Yeah..." Samuel nodded.
"It’s like a love that’s fought for so hard... You’re doing this without thinking that Damian deserves her more than you!" Gea said bluntly. "You shouldn’t have to..."
"Gea..." Samuel stopped Gea. "I’m here for a more comfortable job, to be close to my family as well. Another goal is to be close to Valerie, but when she rejects me, I have to accept that... I can accept it." He said casually, shrugging his shoulders.
Valerie was confused, and feeling uncomfortable, so she decided to sit in the living room, then went to the kitchen to make drinks.
Gea glanced at Samuel seriously, then remembered Jerry’s confession from last night.
’Samuel was there for Valerie when she was in chaos after seeing Damian having sex with Clara... And now he’s here again after Valerie felt messed up seeing Damian getting close to Clara again. This is very strange. Or maybe... could it be...’ Gea widened her eyes as if finding a clue in her mind.
