Revenge of the Phoenix Beauty-Chapter 39: Minister Zhao
Chapter 39 - Minister Zhao
That night, Hua Qingyan sat in her study, her eyes scanning the various scrolls and documents spreaded across her desk.
Each one contained crucial evidence, proof of Minister Zhao's treason.
She had been gathering these pieces for weeks, and now, it was finally time.
Then, she bundled them together and tied them.
Then, without hesitation, she called out, "Liu Feng."
Liu Feng, stepped forward and bowed.
"My lady."
Qingyan handed him the bundle of scrolls.
"Deliver these."
Liu Feng glanced at them, instantly understanding their importance.
"To whom?"
"The Emperor."
For a brief second, he paused, this was a dangerous move.
But Qingyan's voice remained steady.
"Make sure this reaches him anonymously. Don't let anyone trace it back to us."
Liu Feng first hesitated then again his lady knows what she's doing, so he nodded.
"Understood."
With that, he took the scrolls and disappeared into the night.
Lady Li, I wonder how you are going to beg tomorrow. Well, this is just the beginning of my revenge.
The next morning, inside the Imperial Palace...
Minister Zhao was suddenly summoned to the throne room.
He was caught off guard by the urgency, but he assumed it had to do with the emperor's health issues or may be a minor political matter.
With his usual composed way, he stepped into the grand hall and bowed.
"Your Majesty."
But the moment he looked up, his heart dropped.
The emperor, Wei Zhong, was sitting on the throne with unreadable expression.
Before Minister Zhao could speak, a eunuch stepped forward, holding a bundle of scrolls.
The eunuch unrolled one and read aloud.
"Minister Zhao has been found guilty of treason, for colluding with outside forces.
His entire body stiffened.
"T-Treason?!" His voice trembled for the first time.
His eyes glancing towards the scrolls, and his blood ran cold as he recognized them. How?! Was it the second prince?!. No, he needs me, someone must have digged on me knowing this.
"Your Majesty, these are false accusations! Someone is trying to frame me!" he quickly argued, his voice was filled with panic.
But the emperor remained unfazed.
With a flick of his hand, he gestured toward the scrolls.
"Everything here is with solid proof."
"That's impossible! Your majesty! Please believe me. I have always been loyal to the empire!" Minister Zhao fell to his knees, desperately trying to explain.
But the emperor's gaze darkened.
"Enough. I will not waste my time listening to your lies."
He turned to the soldiers standing nearby.
"Drag him to the prison immediately."
"Your Majesty, please! You must listen to me...!"
Before Minister Zhao could say another word, the soldiers seized him and dragged him out of the hall.
"No! No! This is a mistake! I am innocent!"
His shouts echoed through the grand palace halls.
But the emperor never looked at him again.
As the heavy doors of the throne room closed behind him...
Minister Zhao's fate was sealed. Next would be Zhao Lianyi....
