Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 147: Take Care Of Who?
"Who are you talking to?" Katherine questioned as she stood by the door.
Marcus immediately hung up on the call and kept his phone on the nearby table.
"Were you eavesdropping on my conversation just now?" He demanded.
"And why not? Who were you talking to?" She asked, glaring at him now. "What time do you need and what’s that person asking from you?"
"It’s nothing," he lied.
Katherine stared at him perplexed. He never told her what he did to get his money. He only told her that he had savings from being a gym coach, but she knew that money wouldn’t last after buying two houses and a car.
There was something he wasn’t telling her and she was sure of it.
Her gaze softened. Even when he was being overbearing, she tried to understand that he had to take up everything by himself after she got jailed.
She had not made the best decisions in her life but he always stood by her side no matter what.
"Marcus," she called him softly. "What do you do?"
Marcus’s lips thinned.
If she knew where he got his money from, he didn’t know what she might do. She certainly couldn’t go to the police to report him but she would start seeing him differently.
When March didn’t respond, Katherine walked up to him and cupped his cheeks.
"Tell me...I won’t say anything. After all, it’s only because of you I’m here, living my life again."
Marcus took her hands off his face as he shook his head.
Informing Katherine of his work won’t only change her perspective of him but it would also put her life in danger. She and their children.
"I’ll tell you when the time is right."
Katherine sighed defeatedly.
At the hospital,
Eva opened the door for the nurse who was holding a tray filled with Dante’s food.
After settling the tray on the table, she excused herself.
"Time for breakfast," Eva announced.
She arranged some of the colorless soups, scowling slightly when she caught a whiff of their aroma.
It didn’t smell like anything like it was just plain water.
She’d visited the hospital a few times in her life already, and she’d drunk a lot of hospital soup to know that even though it looked and smelled like nothing, it was probably the most bitter content one could digest.
"Aren’t you going to feed me?" Dante asked, a faint grin stretching on his face.
Thankfully, the attack had happened near the hospital so Dante didn’t bleed for long before he was operated on.
Eva’s lips thinned.
"Don’t you have hands to feed yourself?" She questioned back, cocking up an eyebrow.
"Be nice to me today," he said, revealing all his teeth with a big smile. "I took a bullet for you and can’t even feed me?"
Eva scowled at him even more deeply this time around. His hands were working perfectly fine and yet he wanted her to feed him.
She reached for the spoon and grumbling under her breath, scooped a spoonful of soup and stretched it out to him.
Dante parted his lips and swallowed it while making eye contact with him.
Eva wanted to look away. Today was her day off and she was supposed to use the day to do something else.
Perhaps track more illegal shipments, find out what Katherine had been up to lately, or figure out how she was going to handle that woman after finding out the truth yesterday.
But she was right here, feeling Dante as if they were still a married couple.
Her heart hitched as she lowered her gaze.
"You know you didn’t have to do any of that. You don’t have to take a bullet for me, Dante," she said. "You could have died."
Dante was silent for a moment before he replied.
"But I’m still very much alive aren’t I?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Eva didn’t respond to him so he grabbed her hand and caressed it softly.
Her skin burned but she didn’t pull her hand away.
"I’ve already lost you once before. I don’t want it to happen again."
For over a year, Dante never saw Eva and had been so close to believing she was dead. He found her, only for her to believe that he had a hand in the person who nearly took her life.
He still despised himself for not protecting her at that time and now that he got the chance to finally save her, he would do it over and over again.
He could have just told her this, but Eva was triggered whenever he made such promises so he kept the rest of his words to himself.
Eva didn’t say anything in response, leading Dante to cup her face and caress her cheeks.
Her heart skipped a beat instantly as Dante leaned towards her face.
At the entrance of the hospital,
Rico was on a phone call, a worried look on his face as he rubbed his temples in frustration. He combed his pink hair with his fingers as he sighed.
"He will be coming back soon and he wants you," his mother said.
"I’ll take care of him," he agreed.
He hung up on the call, only for him to turn and find Ryan staring at him with a heavy scowl on his face.
Rico almost jumped out of fear.
"What’s wrong with you? Do you usually sneak up on people like that?" He questioned, holding his chest just so his heart wouldn’t burst out.
"Not very often. I saw you when I parked the car but you were on a phone call, so I thought I should wait so we can go inside together," Ryan replied. He glanced down at Rico’s hand that was holding his phone. "Are you alright? I heard the news."
Rick didn’t need to guess to know what Ryan was talking about.
After Mr. De Rossi’s misdeeds had been revealed to the public, Rico’s family had also been affected since his father worked hand in hand with Mr. De Rossi. And now, they were currently facing bankruptcy.
"Yeah...everything is fine," he lied.
Ryan was silent for a second.
"Then...who do you need to take care of?"
