Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 156: Past Nightmares
"Believe me, if I could turn back time to when I hated you so much just so I could finish you off without feeling the slightest remorse, I would. But I can’t..." Eva paused for a moment. "Because you’re my sister, Keisha."
Keisha.
Keisha..
Keisha...
Katherine despised that name more than anything.
Keisha was the name tied to her old identity.
Keisha Gonzales was the name that haunted her nightmares, especially when she tried to create a whole new identity for herself. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Keisha was the name she’d managed to bury a long time ago.
But her past name wasn’t the only thing that caused her heart to skip a beat at that moment. It was the words that came before it.
"What did you just say?" Katherine demanded.
Eva went still for a moment. This was the time.
"I’m Evangeline Gonzales, your sister." She announced. "Our parents died due to a fire outbreak almost two decades ago. We were admitted to the orphanage, but got separated because you got adopted first. Do you remember me?" She asked, this time, her voice carrying more desperation than she thought it would.
Without holding back this time, she took two steps towards Katherine, slowly closing the distance between them.
"I’m Evangeline," she repeated, her voice shaking while she sniffled her tears back in. She couldn’t cry now.
"I don’t know any Evangeline," Katherine said flatly. "My parents’ last names are Evans, not Gonzales. Have you completely lost your mind, Eva?"
Eva forced her saliva down her throat.
She shook her head lightly.
"You’re Keisha Gonzales. You’re my older sister. When we were little, you had a big scar covering half of your face. You can’t deny it, I can clearly see the surgical scar it left on your face after your surgery."
Katherine’s lips thinned.
She wasn’t having it. Not today.
"So what? What do you want me to do about it? You’re Evangeline Gonzales, so what?!" Katherine yelled, causing Eva to take a few steps back. "I no longer live that life anymore."
Katherine could feel her head banging even harder due to this revelation.
She couldn’t believe it. She didn’t want to believe it. Keisha was her real name before she changed it. She had a younger sister named Evangeline before they got separated at the orphanage.
All her life, she’d despised Evangeline.
She’d been born with a huge birthmark that covered half of her face, which only gained weird looks from people.
People stared at her as if she were abnormal. She got called names that stuck to her mind like a second skin.
It got worse to the point that she needed to ponder before stepping out of their house. Because of her face, it took her parents a while before she could be admitted into a school.
And Evangeline, she had the most perfect face. Everyone wanted to be her friend while they all ran away from her.
Eventually, Katherine found herself despising her sister, but she didn’t stop the feeling from growing. Instead, she justified it.
Even when her parents denied the favoritism, she noticed every little thing. Eva got better clothes, better shoes, better education. Worse, when they got to the orphanage, the children treated Eva like a princess while she was cast aside like a nobody.
The favoritism became so much that she had to resort to her own tricks, just so she could finally have the life she wanted.
"The day you got adopted, I chased the car down the street until I passed out. I couldn’t sleep because you weren’t by my side anymore."
Katherine scoffed. "I wish you had died at that time. At least then, I wouldn’t have to deal with you ever again." Katherine’s tone was filled with so much venom that it pricked Eva’s skin.
She had a feeling this was how things were going to unfold when she told Katherine the truth. After all, they did despise each other. But when they were kids, they loved each other and were so inseparable until it happened.
Katherine scoffed when she saw that Eva didn’t have any more words to say, so she continued.
"Even the Evans couple didn’t want me when they saw my face. They didn’t want to adopt me. They’d come for you." She bit her lips while her hands clenched. "They wanted Evangeline. As always, when people saw you, they didn’t want anything to do with me. I had to convince them my own way."
Eva frowned at this. "What do you mean?"
Katherine cocked an eyebrow at her. "What do you think I mean?" She questioned back. "I told them you were happy at the orphanage and you wouldn’t want to be adopted. I told them that you liked staying there. But then, they wanted to have a word with you first to be sure that was what you wanted. That left me with no choice but to lock you up in the storage room."
All the hairs on Eva’s spine stood on end.
She remembered that day vividly, as if it had just happened yesterday.
She was pushed into the storage room by a pair of hands and locked up for minutes. By the time her yells got the attention of someone, Keisha had already been adopted.
She ran after the car like her life depended on it.
Katherine laughed all of a sudden. "I never thought it would actually work, but it did. For the first time in my life, I felt loved, cherished, and accomplished." Then her smile dropped almost instantly. "Until you happened."
At this point, Eva wasn’t sure of what to feel. She thought she would be happy when she finally found her sister after years of searching. But now, the emotions she felt were far from happiness.
She tried to gulp down her saliva, but it felt like thorns flooded her throat, making it painful.
"In case you didn’t understand any of the things I said, I’ll elaborate in the simplest form you could understand." Katherine glared at Eva. "We may be sisters, but if I get the chance to end you, I’ll gladly take it."
