Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?-Chapter 310 - 108 Diary
Chapter 310: Chapter 108 Diary
The free treatment event lasted until late into the night, and eventually, The Azure Longsword team could hold on no longer, quietly withdrawing under Mia’s shadow cover.
They left behind a large crowd of despondent infected people, who continued to wait hopefully around the temporary medical station.
Upon exiting the tunnel, leaving the Quarantine Zone and returning to the inn, and then entering Hearthfire Island, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Being surrounded by the sick was not pleasant, with coughing and vomiting sounds all around; if it weren’t for Peggy and Nora, two members of the team, everyone would have indeed been a little afraid of catching the illness.
However, being worshipped as saviors was an absolutely amazing feeling.
Now, Hearthfire Island’s small manor was already taking shape. Bedrooms, a main hall, kitchen, garden, cinema, and recreation room—all sorts of functional houses had been built, and the courtyard center even imitated the training ground from Weisbach Palace, with space set aside for training purposes.
After undergoing health checks and treatments, the exhausted girls all went upstairs to sleep. As the only man in the team, Aske’s bedroom was specially set up on the first floor, behind the main hall and right beneath the girls’ bedrooms upstairs.
Having taken off his Lock Armor and changed into pajamas, Aske was brushing his teeth in the bathroom when he suddenly caught sight of Peggy walking alone toward the manor’s alchemy workshop, her figure seeming somewhat solitary.
As a possessor of the "Flesh" Sequence abilities, Peggy had lost the need for sleep. Even though a bedroom was still reserved for her upstairs, Peggy actually seldom went back.
During the nights, she preferred to wander aimlessly around Hearthfire Island, strolling through the small woods, walking on the beach, and gazing toward the distant horizon where sea and sky merged.
Tonight, her reason for going to the alchemy room, Aske could guess; the characteristics of the Lord of Filth were still decomposing.
Nevertheless, was the girl too accustomed to solitude to suffer mental health issues later?
Considering the strange emotions contained in magic potions, Aske thought that he should not neglect this concern.
He decided to check on her.
Arriving at the alchemy workshop, Aske saw Peggy sitting in front of Medea’s work desk, staring blankly at the magic potions on the shelf.
The Lord of Filth’s Extraordinary Traits, "Rat I" and "Night Bat I" had been separated out, and Medea had made corresponding magic potions. The recipes for these potions came from several Hussite members in the dungeons of the Weisbach Family, acquired through the ability of Mind Reading.
Now, twirling inside a distillation flask was the liquid residue of "Flesh II," "Life Stealing II," "Plague II," and "Poison II," twisted and entangled together. Although Level II Traits were especially tough to separate, given time, they would inevitably be isolated.
One could say Peggy was indeed very lucky; although currently her Level was the lowest in the team, the path to advancing to Lv.10 in the future was clear of any resource-related obstacles.
She hesitated for a moment, then reached out to take one of the magic potions on the shelf.
"It’d be better to wait until tomorrow when Nora wakes up and can supervise you taking it," Aske’s voice came from behind her.
Peggy jumped, startled, and turned around: "Aske?"
"What’s the matter?" Aske leaned against the door frame, crossing his arms, "Feeling a lot of pressure recently because you can’t keep up with the team’s progress?"
Peggy pursed her lips and said nothing. The pressure from the team wasn’t really an issue, it was the pressure you gave me that was too much.
"Take it easy," Aske comforted her, "You see, you’ve got all your magic potions lined up, catching up in Level will happen quickly."
"Mhm," Peggy nodded.
"I’ll be off then," Aske waved his hand, "Going to sleep."
He walked leisurely back to his bedroom and went to bed. Peggy watched his retreating figure depart before she stood up and opened the door of the side room.
Next to the alchemy workshop was a medical lab, which she and Nora shared.
Nora occasionally prepared some medicines there or manipulated cellular tissues to explore the scope of the "Life II" Ability.
Peggy’s daily work was to brew toxins and cultivate bacteria. Though her Ability was only Level I, gaining experience in its use was naturally something better started sooner rather than later.
However, it was late at night, and she wasn’t yet at the point of transforming into a mad scientist, staying up all night to conduct experiments. After carefully locking the door, she opened the drawer and took out her precious little diary.
The habit of keeping a diary began after the Night Watchman event.
Since that mutant incident, Peggy knew that after people died, there remained memories representing the Super Self, sinking into the depths of the Subconscious Ocean.
Even a king like Alexander, in the end, would still be trapped in his most profound memories, wandering for a long time, unable to extricate himself.
Although the Vampire Bloodline of the "Flesh" Sequence had a longer lifespan extending effect compared to other bloodlines of the same level, it was not immortal. If possible, she hoped that at least after death she could leave behind the happiest memories, rather than regrets and pain—although the Super Self after death was strictly no longer her.
Therefore, she planned to record everything in her diary in the future, no matter how trivial, drop by drop, and then, when her life was nearing its end, she could take it out and reminisce with Aske.
"Today, we entered the Quarantine Zone of Innsbruck City."
Peggy wrote on the paper with a solemn expression.
"Everywhere there were people infected with the disease. Fragile, in pain, overwhelmed."
"Nora told me that the plague was caused by plague bacteria, with a mortality rate of 75%-100% without treatment."
"The main culprit was the Lord of Filth we killed. Even though he is dead, the traces left by his Ability continue to ravage this land, invade, and torment countless lives."
"This is the first time I’ve seen such an exaggerated disparity in power between Transcendents and ordinary people."
"Like a giant beast and ants."
"When the beast breathes, the ants cower to the ground; when the beast steps, the ants flee in panic."
"Will the gap between Demigods and Transcendents also be as vast as heaven and earth? If one day in the future, we encounter a demigod as an enemy, will we be as powerless as ordinary people to defend and protect our fate, even in anger, despite our unwillingness?"
"So."
"I want to become a Demigod."
"I want to protect Aske."
After thinking about it, she crossed out the three characters of "Aske."
The Squad Leader doesn’t need my protection. The Squad Leader is so strong, in the end, it’s he who will become a Demigod first and then protect everyone.
"I want to protect everyone."
After finishing today’s diary, Peggy flipped through the previous pages, revisiting events from the Olympia defense, to the Sparta Snow Monster incident, to the Lunfield Mind Mutant incident, followed by the Weisbach Knight Fighting event, and finally the Lord of Filth Plague incident.
Unknowingly, we have all experienced so many things, the plot is complex enough to be written into a novel.
Maybe I’ll write an autobiographical novel based on this diary in the future, how about calling it "The Azure Longsword"?
Ptui ptui ptui, what a terrible title, sounds like the sort that would flop disastrously, and there’s already a fairy tale with the same name.
Peggy idly pondered, her pen skillfully outlining a sketch on the blank spaces of the paper.
It was Aske’s face.
She stared at the portrait of Aske for a moment, then blushed slightly with a subtle shyness, so she added a few more strokes, turning Aske’s nose into a pig’s snout.
Then she added a cute arrow and marked it with delicate writing next to it:
Squad Leader Big Pig Head.
