Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?-Chapter 314 - 112: Right of Way
Chapter 314: Chapter 112: Right of Way
Aske woke up in bed and suddenly realized he was holding something in his hand.
He opened his eyes, only to find nothing in his arms.
Was it an illusion?
Aske sat up and saw a white mouse on his blanket.
Elizabeth mouse?
No, where would a mouse come from on Fire Island? Who had teleported the mouse here?
The mouse had shiny, sleek white fur, eyes that sparkled like rubies, and its tiny paws and tail were tenderly pink. It was irresistibly cute, almost making one feel "this mouse must be a ’high-value white mouse’ even among other mice."
When the mouse noticed Aske looking, it swiftly jumped off the bed, scurried up the desk to the windowsill, and disappeared outside the window at a rapid pace.
Hmm. Aske had guessed the answer.
After he washed up and changed clothes, he went to the living room outside his bedroom.
The Halloween decorations had already been taken down, and now everyone was preparing for Christmas with stockings for gifts, red and white candy canes, bells, and silver ribbons on the table.
Aske sat at the table and waited a while before seeing Peggy come down the stairs.
"Aske, you’re up?" asked Peggy.
"Yes," Aske said. "Did you go back to your room to sleep last night?"
"Mm," Peggy averted her eyes, "wanted to try out sleeping."
Vampires could sleep, but they wouldn’t feel tired even if they didn’t. Seeing that Aske seemed to accept this reason, Peggy quietly sighed in relief, only to hear the Squad Leader ask again:
"Has the residue from the Magic Potion in your body dissolved, and have you taken the new Magic Potion?"
"Uh, not yet," Peggy quickly said. "I’ll upgrade soon."
"That’s strange," Aske said. "I just went to the alchemy workshop and found that ’Rat I’ Magic Potion is missing. I thought you might have taken it secretly."
"Maybe... maybe Medea hid it somewhere?" Peggy replied evasively. "I’ll ask her later."
"Why would she hide your Magic Potion?" Aske frowned and said. "By the way, what level are you now?"
"Lv.4, ah no, actually, it should be Lv.3," Peggy almost bit her tongue.
"You need to work hard to level up!" Aske earnestly said. "You’re really falling behind in the team!"
Peggy’s tears welled up; she certainly couldn’t admit that she had taken "Rat I," gained the ability to transform and manipulate rats, turned into a rat to show off to Aske last night, and then accidentally ended up falling asleep in his arms, could she?
She would definitely be considered a freak by the Squad Leader!
She sat timidly on a nearby chair, keeping her head down and remaining silent. The girls, who had changed their clothes in their respective bedrooms upstairs, gradually came down.
After Halloween, Eleanor had taken "Tactics I" Magic Potion, outpacing the other girls by reaching Lv.7 first.
Nora also took "Spirit Body II" Magic Potion, advancing to Lv.6. Spirit Body II granted her more potent abilities to manipulate spirit bodies, such as taking control over unconscious spirits around an awake enemy, competing for control of the body against the enemy’s own spirit.
For instance, the spirit briefly leaving the body, gaining abilities unique to spirit bodies such as invisibility and passing through walls—abilities Nora found rather creepy and preferred not to use.
These were the two recent advancements; most other girls were stuck at the stage of not yet acquiring Magic Potions.
It can’t be rushed, as everyone had already consumed the Level I Magic Potions in their bloodline, and Level II Magic Potions were hard to find on the market—typically held only by ancient Extraordinary Families or sects.
As for Level III Magic Potion... don’t even think about it, it’s basically impossible to have a finished product. Either you kill someone to obtain their specific features, or you honestly work out the formula, gather materials, and finally perform alchemy.
The urgent task at hand, however, is to first enhance the team’s weak point—Peggy’s Plague Ability, as she has already advanced to Lv. 4, which is still 2 levels lower than the team’s mainstream Lv. 6. Magic Potion digestion takes time, so during this vacuum period, we need to bridge the gap in strength through ability enhancement.
The group left Fire Island, left the inn, and arrived at the entrance to a secret tunnel.
This tunnel was previously learned by Nora through mind reading, extracted from the thoughts of Alfred’s subordinates. It’s considered a rather private toll tunnel—passage granted with sufficient payment.
The toll fee, for civilians in the Quarantine Zone, constitutes a huge sum. However, for those accustomed to the prices in the Extraordinary Realm which easily run into hundreds of pounds or marks, it’s as cheap as taking a bus.
"Hey? Why is this passage closed?" when the group arrived at the location, they realized that the entrance, originally disguised as a cellar, was now secured with a big lock.
The toll collector who was supposed to be sitting nearby, was also nowhere to be seen.
"Break that lock." Aske said.
Sigrdrifa picked up an ax and smashed the lock. Crack!
Directly creating a large hole in the door, the lock was gone.
The group: ...
Breaking the door works too, doesn’t it? It achieves the goal anyway.
Just as everyone was about to proceed down, they were interrupted by Alfred calling from behind:
"Wait! You don’t need to go down!"
The group turned around to see Alfred approaching with some people, a friendly smile on his face.
They had investigated the inn where the members of The Azure Longsword stayed yesterday and had set up surveillance. Seeing the group leaving today, he quickly brought people over.
"Ah, why take the tunnels into the Quarantine Zone?" Alfred expressed his dismay with a pained expression as if questioning "why didn’t you tell me," "Just tell us directly next time. The City Guards responsible for quarantine patrol are our people; they would stop others but wouldn’t stop you."
The ladies exchanged glances; they hadn’t actually thought about using Alfred’s connections, primarily because they had won 1000 marks from him before and felt embarrassed to ask for his help.
"Let’s go, let’s go." Alfred took Aske and was ready to set off, "This time I’ll take you in, just show your faces, and in the future, you can walk through the main entrance with your heads held high. Treating diseases and saving people is a good deed. The Count has also approved it."
Between the Quarantine Zone and the outside city, a wall over 3 meters high had been built with wooden guard posts set up every few dozen meters, where Guards monitored the surroundings of the wall.
Alfred brought The Azure Longsword folks to the main entrance of the Quarantine Zone, spoke to the guards there and directly got the permission to pass.
"Thank you for your help." Aske said politely.
"Don’t mention it." Alfred waved his hand generously, "You’re also helping with our work."
Helping with your work? Before the ladies could grasp the intent behind his words, Alfred had already left with his men.
Anyway, not having to sneak through tunnels is always good. So, the group proceeded along the route.
Upon reaching the temporary medical station, the patients waiting were still lined up outside it, though far fewer in number than before.
On one hand, it was because the medication in the Quarantine Zone had become cheaper recently. Although taking medication costs money and doesn’t necessarily cure the illness, whereas receiving free treatment through Extraordinary Abilities immediately heals, even a fool knows which option to choose.
Yet there are always fools who think Extraordinary Abilities are hocus-pocus and medicines are scientific; they choose to believe in science... so they stay home and take medications.
On the other hand, after so many days of free treatment, it appears that most of the patients in the Quarantine Zone have been cured. Now on the streets of the Quarantine Zone, many people go out without masks, and there are notably fewer corpses on the streets.
Aside from the patients lined up for treatment, there were also many citizens who had recovered, coming over to chat and express their thanks to The Azure Longsword members—with conversations praising "the noble spirit of the Hospital Knight Order" and "Indeed worthy of the title bestowed by the Holy See, truly an exemplar of the Knight Orders," which left the ladies crying and laughing at the same time.
Although we’re not working for free, aiming to collect pathogens, yet... after so much effort, all the fame has gone to the Hospital Knight Order!
