Rewriting Her Destiny With The Lycan Kings-Chapter 34: The Secret Passage
Denzel’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides. His tone was sharp, resolute. "We’ll find him. There’s no other option."
Devonte’s gaze darkened, his voice cold as steel. "And when we do, they’ll regret ever crossing this kingdom."
Denzel’s eyes flicked to Zara, who leaned heavily against the railing, her breaths uneven and her face pale. He softened, though his urgency remained. "Zara, you can’t stay here. It’s too dangerous. Your guards will be doubled, but until this ends, trust no one."
Zara opened her mouth as if to protest, but the weight of the situation—and the fresh memory of the rogue’s attack—rooted her words in silence. With a hesitant nod, she gripped the railing tighter, her trembling hands betraying her composure.
Devonte stepped closer, his hand briefly resting on her shoulder, a rare touch of reassurance. "We’ll keep you safe," he said firmly, his voice quiet yet commanding. "But you need to be cautious. Anything suspicious—anything—tell us immediately."
Denzel turned toward the fallen rogue, his expression hardening like stone. "This isn’t just treachery—it’s war on everything we’ve built. And whoever’s behind it will pay."
The brothers exchanged a silent, unyielding promise. No more words were needed.

The grand hall of the castle was cloaked in an unsettling silence as Zara sat by the long oak table, her fingers absently tracing the intricate carvings etched into the surface. She was checked by the doctors and rest assured saying she was fine to be concerned. The kings have left to investigate the recent incidents.
Her mind was a labyrinth of chaotic thoughts. The rogue’s attack, the brothers’ cryptic warnings, the talk of a traitor. everything felt like a heavy weight pressing down on her chest. Especially whatever she has come to know from it. She was waiting for the morning to shine, to confront the figure behind this attack.
The quiet was broken by the sound of hurried footsteps echoing through the hallway. Zara looked up as the grand doors creaked open. Lily burst in, her face pale and her breathing uneven, her expression a mix of fear and urgency.
"Luna!" Lily called, her voice trembling.
Zara pushed her chair back and stood, her brows furrowing. "What’s wrong?" she asked, concern evident in her tone.
Lily glanced around nervously, as if fearing prying eyes and ears. She stepped closer, lowering her voice. "There’s something you need to see," she said, grabbing Zara’s hand without waiting for permission. "I feel it would answer most of our unanswered questions."
Zara followed as Lily led her through the winding halls of the castle, her pace quick and her grip firm. They stopped at a narrow, hidden passage behind one of the towering bookshelves in the west wing.
"This way," Lily whispered, pushing the hidden door open. The narrow passage was dimly lit by flickering lanterns, their weak light barely cutting through the darkness.
"Lily, where are we going?" Zara asked, her voice uneasy.
"You’ll see," Lily replied cryptically, her tone laced with urgency. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
The dimly lit passage stretched ahead as Zara and Lily hurried through the narrow corridor. Their breaths came in quick gasps, and the sound of their footsteps echoed faintly against the stone walls. Lily held a small lantern, its flickering light barely illuminating their path.
"Hurry," Lily urged, glancing nervously over her shoulder. "We’re almost there."
Zara nodded, clutching the edge of her gown as she moved. The heavy air of the hidden passage made her uneasy, but the promise of answers spurred her forward.
As they rounded a corner and approached the entrance to the hidden room, they came to an abrupt halt. Blocking their path was the tall, imposing figure of the kings’ Beta Ethan. He stood with his arms crossed, his sharp eyes gleaming with authority.
"Where do you think you’re going, Luna?" he asked, his voice calm but laced with a commanding edge.
Zara stiffened, exchanging a quick glance with Lily before stepping forward. "We need to get through," she said firmly. "This is important."
Ethan didn’t budge. His gaze shifted to Lily, then back to Zara. "The kings have ordered that you return to your room immediately. It’s not safe for you to wander the castle right now."
"But—" Zara began, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
"No arguments," the Beta interrupted, his tone firm but respectful. "This isn’t up for debate. My orders come directly from the kings themselves."
Lily stepped forward, clutching Zara’s arm. "Please, we just need a few moments," she pleaded, her voice almost desperate. "We’ve found something—"
"It can wait," the Beta cut in, his expression unwavering. "The kings’ priority is your safety,Luna. You must return to your chambers now."
Zara clenched her fists, trying to think of a way to reason with him, but the Beta’s stance made it clear that he wouldn’t be moved. His loyalty to the kings was absolute.
"Fine," Zara said through gritted teeth, her frustration evident. "But this isn’t over."
The Beta gave a curt nod. "I’ll escort you back."
As they were being escorted back through the castle corridors, Zara glanced at Lily, her frustration simmering beneath the surface. The Beta’s presence loomed behind them, his watchful eyes ensuring no attempts to deviate from the kings’ orders.
Once they reached the quieter stretch of the hallway, Zara leaned closer to Lily and whispered, "What chest were you talking about earlier? What’s in it?"
Lily hesitated, glancing over her shoulder to ensure the Beta wasn’t paying attention. Lowering her voice, she said, "I discovered it while organizing some of the old archives in the storage rooms near the west wing. It’s... strange, luna. It doesn’t belong to the kingdom. I’m certain of it."
Zara frowned. "What do you mean it doesn’t belong here? What makes you so sure?"
Lily’s voice grew more urgent as she explained, "The markings on it, the symbol—none of it matches the kingdom’s crests or any of the royal insignias we’ve ever seen. It’s... darker, almost ominous. I’ve been going through the archives for weeks, and I’ve never seen anything like it."
"Do you think it’s connected to what’s been happening?" Zara asked, her brows knitting together in thought.
Lily nodded emphatically. "I do. I have this gut feeling that it might hold some answers. Maybe it’s tied to the rogues, or even to the faceless enemy we keep hearing about. Whatever it is, it’s not from here, and it shouldn’t be here."
Zara’s thoughts raced. A mysterious chest, out of place and possibly linked to the recent chaos—it felt like a piece of the puzzle she’d been trying to solve.
Before she could ask more, the Beta cleared his throat from behind them, his tone firm. "Luna Zara, if you’re planning something, I’d advise against it. The kings will not tolerate any disobedience regarding their orders for your safety."
Zara bit back her irritation, forcing herself to nod silently. As much as she hated being confined to her chambers, she couldn’t risk raising suspicions now.
When they reached her room, the Beta stepped aside, motioning for her to enter. His piercing gaze lingered on her as if daring her to defy him.
Lily slipped behind Zara. and the door closed with a heavy thud. Once they were alone, Zara turned to Lily, her mind already formulating a plan.
"We need to get to that chest," she said firmly, her eyes blazing with determination. "Whatever’s in it, I have to see it for myself."
Lily hesitated for a moment before nodding. "I’ll find a way to distract the Beta when the time comes," she whispered. "But be careful, Zara. If the kings find out..."
Zara’s jaw tightened, her resolve unshaken. "I’ll deal with the kings when I have to. For now, we focus on that chest. Whatever secrets it’s hiding, they might be the key to everything."
Her gaze shifted to the window, the moonlight casting an eerie glow across the room. Deep down, she knew the road ahead would be dangerous, but the truth was worth the risk.

At the meeting hall, both Devonte and Denzel had gathered their senior officials to discuss new security measures for the kingdom.
"This is getting worse. All this time, someone on the inside has been working with our enemies. That’s why our security is so vulnerable. We have to find the traitor as soon as possible," Denzel said, his voice seething with rage. His fists clenched at his sides as he resisted the urge to slam them on the table.
"And from this moment, the kingdom’s security system will undergo significant changes. Only a select few trusted officials will know the details. Everything will remain strictly confidential until the traitor is caught," Devonte added, his tone equally cold and resolute. The fury between the two brothers was palpable; the mere thought of a traitor among them was unbearable.
"My kings, we deeply regret the recent events and pledge our complete cooperation with the new measures. You can rest assured of our loyalty," one of the officials said respectfully, bowing his head.
The meeting continued for another fifteen minutes. After thorough discussions, the officials left, leaving the two brothers alone in the room.
Both sank into their chairs with long, exhausted sighs. Neither had recovered from the chaos; the weight of recent events pressed heavily on them. Devonte winced as his wounds began to sting, and Denzel felt the same discomfort.
As they were preparing to leave, they paused at the sight of the senior doctor, Malvin, standing at the door.
"What’s the matter, Malvin? Is everything alright?" Devonte asked, concern evident in his voice. He feared it might be news about Zara.
"Everything is fine, my king," Malvin replied politely. "In fact, I bring good news."
Both brothers immediately focused on him, their curiosity piqued.
"It’s about Queen Zara," Malvin continued with a faint smile. "Her recent test results show something unusual. After the incidents in the forest, her recovery rate has been exceptionally fast—much faster than that of a normal human. And after the rogue attack, her abilities seem to have improved."
The brothers exchanged shocked glances, clearly not expecting this revelation amid the chaos.
"She’s healing like the wolves? Like an actual wolf?" Devonte asked, astonishment spreading across his face.
Malvin nodded. "Yes, my kings. And this development means..." He hesitated, letting the suspense build.
"What does it mean?" Denzel asked impatiently.
"It means Queen Zara now possesses the strength and stamina to endure the pain of being marked. She won’t fall into a critical state," Malvin said with a reassuring smile.
The news sent a wave of excitement through the brothers. They exchanged looks, their emotions mirrored in each other’s expressions. as soon as the Doctor left the palace. They begin to discuss.
"Did you hear that?" Devonte asked, his excitement unmistakable.
Denzel nodded but frowned. "I did. But—"
"No buts," Devonte cut him off, his frustration clear. "We have a clear report confirming she’s perfectly fine to be marked by us. There’s no reason to delay any longer."
"Don’t be irresponsible, Devonte," Denzel snapped, his voice rising. "Do you remember the message we read that night? It was a clear threat."
The words echoed in Denzel’s mind, chilling him. ’The mark shall seal her fate, ushering her to the edge of oblivion.’
"I can still see those words. It was a warning—marking her might cost her life. Do you really think we should gamble with her life for our own desires?" Denzel’s anger was palpable.
"And you’re seriously letting some cryptic message scare you? Are you underestimating our power, brother?" Devonte retorted, disbelief evident in his tone. "This is nothing but manipulation to keep us on edge. The entire world knows there’s no creature powerful enough to challenge us, yet here you are, acting like a frightened pup."
Devonte’s voice hardened. "You know as well as I do that our marks won’t harm her. If anything, they’ll strengthen our bond with her. If she faces any danger, we’ll know immediately. Yet, you’re hesitating like a coward."
Denzel remained silent, his jaw tightening.
"Do you remember how incredible it felt that night—the night we almost claimed her? Did anything feel wrong then? No. It felt perfect. She accepted us, Denzel. She earned this."
Devonte’s voice softened but remained firm. "Snap out of it. We’ve waited for her for centuries. Are you really going to pretend you’re fine keeping your distance? Don’t bother lying. I know how many cold showers you take every night after seeing her."
Denzel looked away, unable to refute his brother’s words. Devonte had an uncanny way of seeing through him, and it frustrated him.
"I’m losing patience, Denzel," Devonte warned. "And if you don’t come to a decision soon, I won’t wait any longer."
With that, Devonte stormed out of the room, ignoring Denzel’s call.
"Damn it!" Denzel cursed under his breath, his fists tightening. Devonte’s words had pierced through his defenses, shaking the resolve he’d built.
Desire. Temptation. The longing he felt for Zara resurfaced with greater intensity.
"Let’s do this," he muttered, finally succumbing to his decision.
