Following Sky, the rest of the beasts also reached them within no time.

The people that are following Jack are actually not that powerful. If Jack wanted to, he could have easily killed them. Even the beasts know that and they felt that even the people following him know that.

But they are still arrogant enough to go against him and chase after him as if he is the one at disadvantage. Sam didn't understand why Jack is tolerating him.

The people chasing didn't worry too much though. They just kept on coming, only after the beasts came in and scared the crap out of their beasts did the chasers understand they might have attracted the wrong crowd of beasts.

So, they turned their tail and ran.

Jack followed Sky and the other beasts as they came to Sam, who is standing there. Jack got off the hoverboard and slowly came to Sam.

"Its really you, isn't it? After a long time. It's really you."

Sam looked at his friend's face. It is full of tiredness, and exhaustion. It is almost like he is carrying a large burden that he doesn't know how to carry or even let go. His eyes are almost watering.

He slowly hugged Sam leaning all of his weight. Sam gently hugged him back.

"I am here. We can do this, whatever it is."

Sam felt rage bubbling up as he felt the tears slowly coming out of his friend's eyes. There is no way, he could remain calm. He felt angry. He felt like a volcano ready to erupt.

There is not a single thing in this world that would stop him from taking care of this. He looked into the sky and thought in his heart.

The gods are going to pay for this.

His friend never cried, never broke down, even when he is hunting down the people that killed his father, when he was powerless against them he didn't even show a hint of sorrow. Instead, he gritted his teeth and kept going on.

He worked on building his strength.

He is a textbook tough guy.

He was unfazed by all of the shit that he went through. But something in this city has brought him down to his knees making him shed tears. He has to run away from some weaklings that he could have killed in his sleep.

"What happened Jack?"

Sam asked in a concerned tone.

"Habi. It's Habi. He is in trouble. We need to go."

Jack said hurriedly as he wiped his tears off.

Sam frowned.

Habi is his student. The one with the unique meridian network and the blade affinity.

Sky immediately let both of them on his back as they went in the direction Jack pointed at. It is actually a bit in the same direction where Yanwu, ape, and other beasts are working to look for the traces of people from Dusk.

But it is not the exact direction, there is a deviation in the route.

They arrived at a waterfall beneath which a cave is hidden. Inside that cave, Habi is laying on a bed along with a bunch of dusk organization members. They are all best of the healing department. They are checking his vitals, constantly performing some tests, they are trying to keep the young man alive.

When they saw Sam, they all felt relieved and gave him the way.

Sam didn't care about their greetings or whatnot, he just went to the side of the bed to check on Habi.

Habi's skin turned a shade of weird green and purple.

"Poison?"

He asked in surprise.

"Yes."

He used the observation ability to check the condition. The whole body is completely infected with poison. All the internal organs, the blood, the marrow. Everything is tainted with poison and when he went deeper with observation, he could feel that they are not just tainted.

The poison seemed to be a bit sentient and it seemed to have become a part of the body. It is trying to replace the cells of Habi's body. Currently, his body has become a battlefield, between the poison that is slowly killing his cells and the healthy cells that are being reproduced to compensate for the loss.

He is suffering way too much.

Sam went on to check Habi's soul just in case. Most of the time, people might actually lose their souls because of the eroded will. The constant abuse of the body is not something anyone could bear.

As he checked his soul though, Sam was in for a rude surprise.

The poison that is destroying the body is actually also affecting the soul and his soul is fighting back. He could sense a lot of emotions coming out of the soul. And none of them are positive. There is sorrow, infinite sadness, rage, and disappointment. A Sense of being betrayed. He is unwilling to succumb to that poison.

It is trying to take his life away but his pride, his will is not letting him succumb to it.

Sam didn't know the exact type of poison that affected him, but it is in way too deep for him to interfere without knowing. He has to be careful with his approach and he cannot be too radical.

At this point, even dialysis cannot cure him. He immediately went through the treatment process and all the medication that was used and understood the current condition. He even understood why the poison is behaving the way it is.

He then went to Jack and asked.

"What happened?"

That is the only thing he asked. He has a lot of questions bugging him, but he knew his friend will answer all of them without even answering.

"I don't know if you got a chance to look around, but this area is being ruled by someone who just broke through the divine plane. And this whole realm actually is pretty new to the Divine realm rulers as after many generations finally a few of them broke through at the same time around a year ago.

So, they are pretty new to the Divine realm party.

And around six months ago, we entered this realm to expand our organization. I am incharge of this area and I was doing just fine. Then in one of the corners of this forest only, I found a very interesting cave while I was leading the mineral exploration team.

The cave has engravings left behind by someone who is very proficient in swords and there are a bunch of other people's engravings along with the sword, there are saber engravings countering the sword engravings. It is extremely powerful.

Even I gained a lot of insights from it. I got the kid here so that he could learn something.

The problem came when I failed to keep the place hidden for a long time. In fact, I decided that it is better to let the local powers know of this place so that it could benefit for us in establishing in our business smoothly.

It was all going well. Only when Habi and his porcupine are getting stronger at an incredible rate every day, he caught someone's eye.

The city is being ruled by a clan and one of the young mistresses of the clan laid her eyes on him. They fell in love, they were so smitten. I didn't even have the heart to be harsh at that. He was really really happy.

But I don't know what exactly happened. Two weeks go, he gave the beast to her to help her with an expedition while he was waiting. Three days later, he went to the city all by himself and I don't know what went down, he was handed over to me by the city guards along with a statement.

Only they can acquire the antidote required to free him of this poison and they are threatening me to not to try anything funny.

I tried to use force. I strong-armed all of their business. All of their information networks, financial resources, and natural resources were all cut off. Not a single city from other areas is willing to do business with them.

All of their clan members had to be evacuated from the sword cave I found. They are basically holed up. But I wasn't able to take drastic measures against them because that girl and the beast might still be in their hands and they are kind of hinting at that.

This kid is already poisoned like this and he is barely staying alive. The healers of dusk have to use a lot weird ways to keep him alive.

I don't know what to do. I feel like I brought this all on him. He is just a good kid from the desolate who is studying diligently to get better. To be better.

Why did I have to drag him into this stupid mess? I feel so helpless."

Sam sighed as he looked at Jack. His friend is taking too much load. No one in his place should be feeling this kind of burden.

He meant well, but somewhere along shit just went sideways.

"Don't worry I am here and I already have a few answers that I need. Now I will handle it in our own style. Let's see what this clan can really do."
