Chapter 389: Bad Intentions

Cloaked, Ezra entered Polaim’s atmosphere.

Here there were no clouds, nor was there the brilliant glow of sun, all that festered was a perpetual coldness.

Covered in grey soil, the lands lay barren with cracks all over, and strangely enough, the gravitational pull was thrice that of Orion.

’It seems there’s no one here’

Flying in Polaim’s atmosphere, Ezra did his scouting from the sky, using farsight to spot things on the ground.

Using the coordinates that Zydrax obtained, Ezra flew straight towards the exact location on the planet.

Searching the whole planet would not only take vast amounts of time, but was also a very stupid choice.

In minutes, he reached the needed spots and already, he could see traces left behind by other life forms.

Making his descent, he scours the nearby places for clues, picking up multiple tiny pieces of metal, along with some torn cloth, and inducted all of it into his universe.

Hopefully, he would be able to use them to find the culprit.

But all that became unnecessary the moment he ventured further.

Sensing someone’s presence Ezra forced himself to a halt, moving carefully to examine the person better and more importantly, gauge the person’s power level.

Confident in , Ezra walked forwards, releasing very little energy to observe his surroundings.

Reaching less than ten meters from the person hidden away in a cave, Ezra was able to evaluate his power level.

The results had him furrowing his brows.

’A Transcendent?’

Moreover, ’A rank three Transcendent?’

Half-expecting a Nascent or at least a rank six Transcendent, Ezra was slightly startled.

Confirming that the opponent was weaker than him, Ezra’s confidence grew and his actions became bolder.

No longer walking, Ezra took strides to the location of the cave. His heart tingled in anticipation.

Moving closer, he noticed large signs of activity.

Analyzing the contents, as he made strides towards the cave, Ezra wondered.

’Could the truth actually be much simpler than I expected?’

Could it really be that the one responsible for all the havoc on Orion was this rank three Transcendent?

Regardless, Ezra made up his mind to apprehend whoever it was within that cave.

Arriving at the cave’s entrance, Ezra easily pierced through the darkness to take sight of the one cultivating, inadvertently releasing his energy.

Deep within the cave lay a black dragon with racial features synonymous with those that attacked Orion.

Seated in a lotus position with his eyes closed, the black dragon was cultivating.

Memorizing his features, Ezra sought to apprehend him when his communicator rang.

Displeased by the intrusion, Ezra clicked his tongue, taking a moment to step away from the cave’s entrance to check what the issue was.

Pulling up the message he received, Ezra’s rage simmered into a cold fury as he thoroughly calmed.

In face of Sidal’s sudden message, he couldn’t help it.

[Help!] was the only thing written, with location coordinates tagged below it?

’Is this a joke?’ Ezra wonders and calls him.

Ring...

No response.

It was the same the second time, and on the third, communication has been lost.

With this, Ezra was certain.

’He’s really in trouble’

Sidal wasn’t one to play such tricks.

’Tch’

Ezra bit his lip in displeasure.

’Why now of all time?’

Ezra had no clue what sort of trouble he was in, so taking his time to deal with the black dragon first could prove fatal.

’What should I do? What should I do? What should I do?’ Ezra questioned, his mind racing.

Apprehend the black dragon or go to rescue Sidal?

After ten seconds, Ezra let out a breath and made his decision.

Using in conjunction with , Ezra vanished.

It wouldn’t be too late to get revenge after making sure Sidal was safe.

******

Ten minutes earlier...

On his way there, Sidal hummed a tune, feeling jolly that his wish was finally coming true.

AlphaNova’s headquarters was located not on a planet but on a floating base built with all sorts of sophisticated technology.

Painted deep blue in its entirety, it gave off a feel of regality and solidarity.

Upon arriving at the headquarters though, he couldn’t help but have suspicions.

Call a lizard’s senses, his instincts were ringing out in warning.

Beyond that, the atmosphere was very strange.

In response to the inauguration of a new executive member, it was customary that the entire board was to be in attendance.

Yet, the luxurious spaceships which should be parked to signify their attendance were nowhere to be seen.

In addition, you had an uncanny number of security guards lined up as if waiting for them.

Moreover, why were their faces tense?

At such a sight, Sidal’s jolly spirit simmered as he decided not to exit his spaceship.

The head of the security guards stepped up.

"Welcome. Mr. Sidal, the CEO awaits you inside"

"I’m well aware" he replies. "But there’s been a problem, report to him that something came up, and I will return later"

"Please wait Mr. Sidal" the security guard acknowledged. "The CEO instructed us to inform him of your arrival"

"Then do that" Sidal replied with a shrug.

Just as he was thinking of turning around, a familiar face approaches their spaceship.

The CEO of AlphaNova.

Though holding the white skin of humans, he featured four claw-shaped like fingers on each hand, black eyes with a red background, a red tail half a metre long and two small red horns jutting out head.

A variant of the devil race, born as a result of copulation between a human and a lesser devil, a shrewd and cunning fellow.

That aside, Sidal was disturbed by something else.

’This guy came to see me personally?’ Sidal’s alertness rose another level witnessing this strange situation that bordered on absurdity.

Throughout his days working for this company, he could count with his fingers how many times he’d seen this man in the flesh.

Then, Sidal had never seen the CEO rush to receive someone before.

A man whose gaze was normally oblivious, who looked at everyone except board members as though there were pebbles.

Before today, the CEO had never made the effort to converse with him before.

Such a person was staring at him with earnest eyes and a warm smile.

It would be odd if it didn’t seem extremely strange.

When put in conjunction with the rest of the strange things occurring, Sidal’s mind was put in turmoil as he grasped a startling possibility.

’Does the CEO...? No, he’s a merchant, that can’t be right...’

Yet all signs were pointing to that very possibility, and Sidal did not intend to ignore them.

"Mr. Sidal. I’m pleased that you could make it"

Hiding his internal turmoil, Sidal made his voice as neutral as possible.

"CEO" Sidal intoned. "It’s good to see you in good health"

"Yes, yes" the CEO nods, gesturing to the headquarters. "Now then, why don’t you come in? The client is eagerly waiting to meet you"

Holding a neutral expression, Sidal nods, but remains rooted in his spaceship.

"Is something the matter?" the CEO inquires.

"Ah yes...*cough*cough*...I’m afraid there’s been a problem"

"Oh? And what might that be?"

"You see...in my excitement. I forgot to bring the elixir along with me" saying this, Sidal lowers his bows. "I cannot apologize enough for such a blunder, so I would like to return right away to retrieve it"

"Ah...is that so?" the CEO replies. Nodding with an understanding expression, though his eyes told a different story.

"This is indeed a massive blunder, but I cannot simply leave the client waiting on such an important issue. It would be better simply have someone retrieve for you while you meet the client first"

"Haha" Sidal made an awkward laugh with a drop of sweat on his face. "No, CEO, appearing in front of the client without the ordered product...I can’t do that"

"And given the nature of the item, I can’t leave it to another either, lest an unfortunate circumstance might occur"

With this rebuttal, a strange silence lingered between the CEO and Sidal as they simply stared at one another.

Clicking his tongue, the CEO moved a distance from Sidal.

Then out of nowhere, he yelled!

"Attack! Capture the merchant, don’t let him escape"

Instantly, the cacophony of guards pulled out their pistols and rained fire on Sidal’s party in the form of blue light beams.

Having seen through each other’s unspoken intentions, the CEO promptly decided there was no need in maintaining the charade any longer and instead took the initiative.

Dumbstruck by the display, a security guard yanked him by the arm deeper into the spaceship, narrowly avoiding the first volley of shots.

"Sir, get behind us"

Like that, the security guard huddled in front of him, blocking him from enemy fire.

The shock snapped Sidal out of his reverie.

"Take off!" he shouted at the pilot.

"Sir I can’t!" the pilot replied back. "The ship won’t move"

Immediately, Sidal pulls up his communicator to request for help from the one person he could trust the most.

The security guards’ efforts were to be given credit for, but under concentrated fire from the enemy, they fell rapidly, and the noise died down in tandem.

Seconds away from being apprehended, all Sidal could write was ’HELP!’ and added the coordinates of his current location before sending it.

Hopefully, they hadn’t blocked communication lines as well.

Not even five seconds later, a blue beam hit him square in the chest.

"Ack!" Sidal groaned, feeling his body stiffen, leaving only his eyes capable of movement like a coma patient.

’So, it was a paralysis ray’ Sidal figured.

Incapacitated, he fell to the floor like a mango tree, hurting his nose.

Thanks to the quality of his monocle, it was preserved.

’This is why quality items are the best’ he quipped.

Seconds later, his body was raised by one of enemy security guards and pulled out of the spaceship and then tied him up with multiple elastic metal bands.

At this sight the CEO made a rueful smile, inspecting his body.

"Other than your bloody nose, you don’t seem to be injured anyway...good"

"I was going to invite you for talks and then abduct you. But you turned smarter than the usual dumbass"

"Congrats" the CEO clapped. "Now. If you mind telling me where the elixir is and how you got it. This will be easier for all of us"

Sidal wanted to curse.

From the start, this fellow only held bad intentions!

******

Five minutes after Ezra’s departure, someone exited the cave.

The black dragon, Khasavar, looked to both sides of the cave entrance before fully exiting the cave. His face, tense and grave.

’Who was that?’

Unbeknownst to Ezra, Khasavar concentration was disrupted the moment he inadvertently let out his energy.

Alarmed at the sudden appearance of an unfamiliar high ranked Transcendent at the entrance of his private cultivation space, Khasavar was spooked.

Additionally, from the radiated energy, this Transcendent didn’t seem to have come with good intentions, so Khasavar was already thinking up ways to escape.

Suddenly, the presence he felt disappeared. This caused Khasavar a great deal of doubt but after taking small steps towards the entrance, he stretched out his neck and found that there was truly no one around.

Sighing in relief, Khasavar wiped off the sweat that had built on his face.

"He must’ve been looking for someone else" Khasavar commented, putting his heart at ease.

If only he knew.

Gathering his wits, Khasavar quickly thought up his next course of action.

’Well, I can’t cultivate here anymore’

Beyond how it turned out, Khasavar was thoroughly freaked out by the subsequent events. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

As such, he decisively decided to never cultivate here again.

’It would be better to cultivate on planets closer to the colony from now on’

Though he made it sound like his own idea, his relative had told the same thing multiple times in fear for his safety, but he had refused to heed their advice.

But if he didn’t understand before, this was a wake-up call.

Honestly, thinking about what could’ve happened frightened him.

’I better get off this planet in case he comes back’ he decided, taking off immediately.
