Chapter 413: Perilous Discovery

"Oops" Ezra muttered.

Still observing the madman who was also starring in his direction, Ezra abruptly moved away as the Nascent leapt directly towards him.

Jumping to the other side of the mountain cave, he saw the madman land at the exact position he jumped away from.

’Of course it can jump that high’ Ezra thought in annoyance.

This raised Ezra’s caution several times.

Unlike Ivesa that pulled her punches against him, this madman was utilizing its full power.

On the spot, Ezra decided to end his adventures.

’I should get out of here’

It would soon be time to leave anyway.

Immediately, he followed up with an activation of <Gatemark>, casually slipping away to appear meters from the entrance of the secret realm.

Exhaling, he deactivated his concealment and diffused the tension on his body as he began to think of his next move.

’Should I tell the others about this?’

The presence of a Nascent level madmen made the secret realm a no go area for Transcendents.

It was inevitable that the factory would create new Nascent level madmen.

Not to mention, Ezra had caught the earth rumbling to have originated from three places, meaning it was likely that there were two more factories producing Nascent level madmen in the secret realm at this very moment!

With all these factors put together, Ezra decided that he would inform the other expedition members.

Regardless of his intentions and plans, if other groups ended up being massacred by a nascent level madman in a secret realm, he was sure to be suspected.

The tragedy of the Alchemist’s Tomb was already a significant blow to many clans. A follow up of the same thing would have the clans burst a vein as they searched for a culprit.

At that point, they would not even care about catching the culprit, and would likely just look for someone to hold responsible regardless of the truth.

While Ezra was confident in being able to handle anything they tried to throw at him, things would undoubtedly become annoying.

The fact that he was on both expedition parties when tragedies occurred in the secret realms, especially with both being his first visits, was also bound to cause problems for him.

Therefore, informing the other parties and alerting them was the best choice in order to avoid any annoying situations in the future.

’Then, I should-’

Ezra’s thoughts were caught as something else came to his mind.

The weapons he’d seen piled up across the two mile distance in between the two mountain ranges.

’Hmm...’

Once again thinking about certain weapons he’d eyed beforehand, Ezra couldn’t help but be tempted.

Besides, it was already night and closing in to midnight. They would be out of the secret realm by dawn or soon after. Was there really a need to be in such a hurry?

Eventually, his greed for the weapons won.

As he was about to activate <Gatemark>, something else came to mind.

’That reminds me...’

Looking to the mountain range nearest to him, only then did Ezra notice that the ground here was not rumbling.

’Guess that answers my question’

There was likely no factory in the mountain range nearby, or at least it wasn’t active yet, leaving the rumbling to stay within the madman caverns.

Ezra highly doubted that they were many, if any, of the groups that would venture into the mad caverns.

They had been specifically told not to venture within after all.

Also, the mountains that held factories were close to the last line of the mountain range or at the last line.

Thinking about how he came straight from the last line of mountains to the entrance, Ezra nodded slightly in acknowledgement.

’<Gatemark> is a very convenient ability’ he thought.

With that, he activated <Universal Concealment>, utilizing <Gatemark> to appear within the two mile gap close to the entrance of mad caverns.

Looking about, he saw swarms of madmen mostly stationary except for head movements as though they were zombies.

With such a crowd, Ezra didn’t hesitate to leap over the swarm towards the direction he had noticed a fine sword earlier.

With Skyfall, he wouldn’t be needing new weapons, but the coming Transcendents definitely would.

With that in mind, Ezra ran all over the place, scouring both the fine weapons and those that had turned to scraps into his universe.

Hours passed like that, with Ezra taking breaks to recover his energy before concealing himself once more.

By the time the darkness of night began to fade away, Ezra had gathered more than four hundred weapons, though more than ninety percent of it was scrap metal.

Deciding that enough was enough, Ezra appeared back at the entrance.

Looking around, the exit portal was yet to show up, so Ezra simply found somewhere to sit.

The other groups would soon appear to exit as well.

Just thirty minutes later, a group of Green Dragons appeared.

Many of them sported black bandages around their bodies covering injuries.

They were surprised to see him, but Ezra merely peeked at them before closing his eyes once more.

Members of the group stared at him for a long time, but eventually took their gazes elsewhere.

Three hours later, the last party arrived, and thankfully, looking over everyone there, no one had died.

Only then did Ezra approach them.

As all groups wondered what he intended, Ezra called their attention.

He addresses them collectively, informing them of the appearance of Nascent level madmen in the mad caverns.

At this point, there was an interruption.

"Do you take us for fools?!"

"Excuse me?"

It was a Green Dragon.

"You expect us to believe you went into the mad caverns and came out without a scratch?"

"Ah, I see" Ezra replied.

He activated <Universal Concealment>, vanishing from sight while erasing all signs of his existence.

At that, everyone who was only watching for fun immediately tensed up as they realized they couldn’t sense his existence at all.

All of a sudden...

*Sha!*

Blood suddenly spilled from the talking Green Dragon as a blade slash appeared on his skin, causing him to groan.

Seconds after, Ezra reappeared with a casual expression.

"Does that answer your question?"

With that demonstration, the Transcendents were forced to take him seriously and listened attentively to what he said.

The Green Dragon himself was furious, but seemed to have the basic instincts needed for survival as he did not provoke Ezra after that nor try to attack him.

Though Ezra highly doubted that this was the end of it, he couldn’t be bothered enough to worry, after all, one had to find him first in order to attack him.

Good luck to them on finding a route to his universe.

With his briefing, the expedition members would tell their superiors and their superiors would call upon him.

Ezra didn’t want to look for the superiors himself as that would lessen his worth, and while this wouldn’t matter much normally, the characters of higher beings seem to be shittier the more powerful they were, so Ezra had little hope that Nascents with positions in authority would not be the same, especially when talking down to a Transcendent, someone they deemed below them.

Ezra would rather not give them any reason to act shitty towards him.

Not long after he finished his briefing, the exit portal opened, to which Ezra gladly exited first.

He moved with haste, disappearing out of sight soon after as he did not want to be caught up with by the rest of the expedition party who were bound to crowd the place in a few minutes.

Out of sight, Ezra returned to the elder residence, laying on his bed as he awaited whoever it would be that would come to request his presence at the order of a higher up.

Afterwards, Ezra planned to test out the effectiveness of <Gatemark>s he left in the secret realm.

He hadn’t tested it yet, but his intuition was telling him he would be able to gain entry, after all, hadn’t <Universal Concealment> also worked?

The thought had his heart pounding in excitement as he imagined all sorts of possibilities it could bring, but as the man he was, he suppressed his desire to do as he had originally planned.

Sure enough, someone knocked on his door an hour later.

Opening it, he found a Black Dragon standing there, one of Nascent-rank who was staring at him menacingly.

Dressed in armor while holding a spear in his left hand, the Dragon gazed at him as though to kill.

’Typical’ Ezra thought as he met the Dragon’s eyes without flinching.

"Yes?"

"An Elder requests your presence" the Dragon replies in a tone that was almost mechanical, but the annoyance within was unmistakable.

A Nascent sent to escort a Transcendent, it was very easy to see why one would be annoyed in his position.

’Is the person nameless?’ he wondered, but held the thought.

There was no reason to arbitrarily upset the already annoyed Dragon.

That wasn’t the aim.

"Lead the way" said Ezra with a smile.

With the guard in front, Ezra walked behind, matching his pace as they utilized the Skyline and arrived at the venue he left half an hour ago.

On the way, the guard refused any attempt at conversation, holding his silence.

The Elder in question was easily distinguished as he stood right in front of the venue with his hands behind his back.

Garbed in white robes with glasses held over his eyes, the man gave off a scholarly vibe.

Hopefully, it will be the same when he speaks.
