Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 59: How To Get Inside
The silence finally seems to disappear as Amelia responds to what I said.
"No need to thank me, I was just being honest," Amelia says with a calm tone.
"I appreciate it regardless," I reply.
"But on another note, I don’t know how we’ll be getting inside this place," Amelia says softly.
I stand back up and move away from the wall, taking in how tall it is as well. The possibility of climbing this thing is low and probably isn’t worth the effort.
"There has to be an entrance somewhere," I reply confidently.
"We’ll have to follow along the wall for now then," Amelia says while standing up.
"Doesn’t seem to be much of a choice otherwise," I respond.
I begin to follow her as we stay close to the wall, looking for any sign of a way in. There is no guarantee that this gets us inside either since we don’t know how big Amadon is.
It feels like we are walking along this wall for hours but then something kind of looks like an opening ahead.
"That might be our way in," I say while trying not to be too loud.
"I’m right behind you," she replies.
I begin to run for the opening, not worrying too much about what could be waiting for us ahead; Upon reaching the opening I can see a gate that is just barely propped open.
A mound of bodies is what is keeping it from closing right now.
Most of them appear to be freshly killed people who got thrown out here to make sure the gate doesn’t close.
"That is a great sign," Amelia says sarcastically.
"We got our way in at least," I respond nonchalantly.
I crouch underneath the opening and find myself on the inside of the fortified city. It isn’t lit up in here whatsoever but this place is definitely not any safer than our city was.
Without hesitation I lift my sword back up as I begin to walk forward.
The streets all seem to be filled with death and decay, something that reeks of zierel. Probably not the greatest indication for us to be roaming around like this but we don’t have much of a choice.
Wriggle. Wriggle. Wriggle.
Wriggling in my arm is all I can feel as a sudden pain begins to jolt into my chest out of nowhere. Like my heart is being ripped out all over again.
I can’t shout or call out but within a few moments the pain suddenly disappears.
"Something here is extremely unpleasant... It is not worth messing with," Celeste speaks with a bit of fear in her voice. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
I don’t think I ever heard you scared before, it’s kind of different. Also I can’t just ignore whatever is lingering within this city since I got sent here for a reason.
Pushing through this is the best way to get stronger as well.
"Just don’t do anything dumb," Celeste responds with worry in her voice.
Her voice fades away after that, leaving me back with Amelia again.
The presence she is talking about isn’t really making itself known to us just yet. The area around me still feels pretty empty, besides the bodies.
With all the dead people here, it makes me wonder if they got trapped inside with the zierel. It might even be the reason that the one in here might be as strong or as terrifying as it is.
I’m not very familiar with how the evolution works with them but that is my guess.
Giving a zierel enough food to evolve into something even deadlier is not the greatest way to ensure your survival. Can all of them reach such extreme lengths?
What happens if I somehow manage to evolve with this infection, nah I doubt that would work.
I’m also not relying on her for physical help in that sense, besides the healing if need be.
Then again, Amelia is also capable of healing me now so maybe I don’t need to rely on her for anything period. Pushing forward with just my strength and the help of Amelia is enough for now.
"Do you think any light bearers plan to come out here? Besides Airi," Amelia asks with curiosity in her voice.
"It is possible since they are fighting against the zierel like us," I answer while looking around.
"Then shouldn’t there be some sort of light here?" She questions.
"That is a good point," I respond.
There is no sight of any light anywhere here... Just the light from our lantern that we have on us.
The place is completely drenched in darkness with no way for anyone to truly survive in this hell hole. It does explain why no one is really alive here, not a single soul.
Rumble!!! Rumble!!!!!
The ground begins to shake around us as something sounds like it is running around in the distance.
I just brace myself until the shaking finally stops.
I look towards Amelia and then back ahead of us, looking for any sign of what the hell just did all that. It is eriely quiet around here now that the shaking is done.
"What the hell was that?" Amelia asks quietly.
"I don’t even know. It is definitely a lot bigger than the zierel we fought on the way here," I answer with a serious tone.
Part of me wants to run away while we still have the chance while the other part is confident that we can handle it.
I grip my sword to push myself back to ignoring the fear.
Fighting these monsters is all I really can do right now so I can’t run away when things get tough. I’m positive that we can take down whatever awaits us ahead.
I don’t want to end up like all the bodies around us either though...
I find myself standing still.
"Liam we can do this," Amelia assures me.
Did I just stop out of fear? Didn’t I just force myself to push past it...? What the hell is wrong with me all of a sudden.
"Yeah, you’re right. I believe we can do this too," I respond while keeping my eyes locked on the path ahead.
