Rivers of the Night-Chapter 421: Ancient Beast
Chapter 421: Ancient Beast
Theron leapt onto the Alpha’s back and they shot off into the distance. He could feel the blood within the latter’s body churning, and it only took 30 minutes before the burst came.
Chi.
The Alpha shattered the barrier to mid-tier Gold Mancy and its speed suddenly skyrocketed. It ping-ponged between trees, accelerating into a red blur through the forest until it suddenly leapt out entirely.
Harsh winds buffeted against Theron, but he closed his eyes in silence, sitting cross-legged on the beast’s back.
’It won’t hit Fifth Resonance...’ he concluded.
It was a shame. A single Elder Kelyne Black had gotten the Alpha to Third Resonance, but the gap between tiers was too much. It would only be slower from now on.
Unless...
Theron’s mind went toward the Beast Core, but he eventually shook his head. This Beast Core was his own. Plus, it was from a low-tier beast. The odds that it would help the Alpha were next to zero, although the purity of the energy would likely be much higher.
Something told Theron that there was something he could gain from this Beast Core. Unfortunately, there was no obvious answer, so for now he settled for examining the runes on it in silence, trying to distill it into a form that he could use. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
As for his destination right now, most would be very unlikely to guess...
That was because he was on his way back to the Nightingale Empire. Specifically, the Luminescent Moon Sect.
It was about time he entered that Secret Realm once more. There were some things in there he needed for himself.
While he was busy with this, the roots he had laid here would slowly begin to manifest themselves and the chaos would reach just the right peak.
The only variable he had to consider right now were the Harmons... but a plan was brewing in his mind for that outcome as well...
The blood.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The skies rocked as a beast howled.
It was enormous, having a shell that buried the clouds in darkness and a form that bore down its heft and weight onto every corner it passed across.
It was a beast that many very rarely saw...
The Black Limbo Tortoise.
Many thought of the Black Limbo Tortoise for its heft alone, but Theron had been using its Core’s runes to make himself lighter since the very beginning.
The fact this creature was now flying through the skies as though the clouds were its stepping stones was reason enough to prove things. It was just that the Black Clan seemed almost entirely focused on making their Water Mana heavier.
Whether that was because they felt it was most useful like this, or if they had other limitations... maybe only their strongest knew.
On the back of this ancient tortoise, Patriarch Black and Karra stood. Their expressions were dark and unmoved.
It was a showing of power that was adequate, but didn’t cross the threshold of no return just yet. Karra was the strongest genius of their Clan and was already at a stage where nine out of ten high-tiers couldn’t last a few dozen exchanges against her.
And then there was Patriarch Black. The caliber of men on his level on the entire continent could be counted within the dozens.
Finally, there was the ancient tortoise... a protective spirit beast of the family, a powerhouse more ancient than even their currently living ancestors.
It had lived countless millennia, and though aged, its aura was as vigorous as the raging oceans.
Just beneath its presence alone, Water Mana churned in such thick currents that after being stopped in place for merely half a minute or so, it looked as though rivers were forming in the skies.
This was the sort of commotion that even the Mandate Guild couldn’t ignore. The White Veils didn’t even have the chance to report before the Elder Veils started to come out one after another, the first of which being Elder Pipen, who had felt like he was losing his mind the last few days.
Theron had just up and disappeared, and the carnage in the cage seemed to suggest that he hadn’t left willfully. There had been blood everywhere.
The Ancestor Veil had investigated the scene and concluded that Theron must have succeeded in expelling the Mandate Mark in a desperate situation, but that still wasn’t enough to fight off his captor. Now he was in the hands of what was likely the Daggers of the Night, and before that situation could even be properly handled, the Black Clan was here?
Unwilling to allow this matter to fester, the Ancestor Veil had left immediately, chasing after their Daggers of the Night leads. It was a decision that was probably for the best, but that left the Mandate Guild in an awkward situation right now.
The Ancestor Veils of the Mandate Guild were in a particularly unique situation. Because of their cultivation and their three Mandate Marks, they were particularly disliked by the Heavens.
This was why Elder Pipen had been so worried about disturbing one of them. If Theron had turned out to be no big deal, then he would have put an Ancestor Veil in danger for no reason, and he would certainly be punished for that.
However, now the situation was even worse. Two Ancestor Veil-level characters were here in the tortoise and Patriarch Black. On top of that, the former number two on the Mandate Leaderboard was here at the Fifth Gold Resonance.
There were probably only two or three Elder Veils that could fight Karra—let alone the other two—in a one-on-one battle.
The Mandate Guild was powerful, but it was circumstantial power, and much of their foundation was based on deterrence. Ironically, it was the very same sort of soft power that the Black Clan was here to protect.
Elder Pipen wanted to pull his hair out.
Why was this happening right now of all times?!
Why did it feel like he was being led by the nose?
