Rivers of the Night-Chapter 867: Never Worthy
Capítulo 867: Never Worthy
‘Shit.’
Theron flipped through the air, protecting Ayame’s body as he was sent flying. The momentum of his flight was too strong to fight against. In fact, it would have been foolish of him to even try in the first place. Doing so would have just made the impact hit him all the more.
Unfortunately, that momentum was sending him right into the embrace of Kenton.
Theron didn’t seem to notice until it was far too late.
Kenton, who had already stood up to face the potential threat of Macie, couldn’t believe his luck.
He unsheathed his sword, his nine white tails snaking through the skies as though each one was trying to pluck stars from the distance.
The world shook, and he suddenly slashed down.
Theron’s gaze flickered and his body pirouetted through the air, dodging the descending blade by the skin of his teeth. It took off just the barest amount of a single strand of his hair, his momentum still carrying him forward.
And then his knee drove up.
Kenton was too slow to react. He felt the knee connect, his teeth shattering against one another, and then his neck snapping back so hard it was nearly torn from his shoulders.
Theron deftly landed on the asteroid as Kenton was sent flying into the distance. He was going to follow up, but he found several auras landing on him at once.
The rage he had built up for Kenton seemed to have been completely stolen away by his fury for Ryu Tatsuya. He still wasn’t sure if that really was the Tatsuya Ancestor or not, but what he did know was that when he sensed Bamby approaching…
He smelled the same.
Bamby felt his heart freeze when he felt Theron’s gaze. The swing of his hammer practically froze, and then it really did freeze.
Steam rose in layers, lines of blue-white fusing into Bamby’s flames as though to snuff them out. And then that was exactly what happened.
By the time Bamby’s polearm hammer was halfway through its swing, it was practically entirely encased.
Theron’s leg erupted with power, his planted foot completely shattering the asteroid beneath him as a violent torque of bloody, murderous intent ripped through his hip and right into a roundhouse kick.
He collided with Bamby’s hammer, and in that moment, the latter felt as though the weight of a star was descending onto him.
Chi.
The ice cracked. First it was slow, and then all at once. The hammer fragmented into millions of pieces as the weapon flew from Bamby’s hands.
BOOM.
Theron’s leg lowered in a stomp, and then he pivoted, his other leg rising into a perfect vertical split before he slammed it down as well in a perfect axe kick right through the top of Bamby’s skull.
Bamby’s head deformed, his wild red hair acting as no form of protection at all. It was no true mane of a lion.
The roar of one filled the air and Bamby’s eyes bulged, his skull fracturing and his bone sticking out of his brain like glass.
His senses seemed to be completely disrupted in that moment, and he was sent flying into the sparkling darkness below.
Kenton’s roar came from the side, but it hardly reached Theron at all as it was swallowed by his previous roar like that of a lion.
A Fire Dragon was no match for him.
A nine-tailed fox wouldn’t be either.
Theron’s head turned, and Water Mana seemed to act on his behalf. The chaotic mass of energy exploding out from the Heaven’s Gate bent to his will and was forcefully compressed into a streaming river.
Kenton’s sword strike thrust into the waves, planning to rip right through. But instead, it became trapped in the current, being pulled to the side.
Theron vanished into the waters, appearing right at Kenton’s side as his entire flank was exposed by the yank on his weapon.
He drove a knee right into the Sacharro’s ribs, shattering them until they pierced through every semblance of inner organ he had remaining.
“You want my Undefeated Spirit?”
Theron’s voice, always so well-mannered, so gentle, was no different now. And yet it felt like a cold breeze forming into a tight grip around Kenton’s throat.
“Even when you defeated me, you couldn’t have it. You have the heart of a coward, the spirit of a fool, the mind of an idiot.
“What makes you think you’re worthy of taking what’s mine? You’re worse than even Ryu Tatsuya. At least he has the strength to back up his selfish arrogance.
“You, however…”
Theron kicked again, shattering what remained of Kenton’s rib cage. The latter coughed up several mouthfuls of blood. Though he tried to recover, his hands were completely trapped in the water as though locked in a trap of violent currents.
“…have no strength to speak of whatsoever.”
Theron appeared above Kenton and slammed a heel down.
His head shattered like a blooming watermelon.
“Trash.”
Bamby’s roar of fury peeled across the skies.
“How dare you speak my Ancestor’s name!?”
Theron looked over and didn’t move a single inch.
Darkness swirled and the current of water formed into a lance that hovered overhead, growing larger as more and more Mana poured into its body.
“I’ll teach your Ancestor his place one day,” Theron said gently. “You, however, have never been my opponent. The only advantage you have in this world is time, experience, and a rotting, worthless bloodline.”
BOOM.
The lance of water shot forward, and Bamby couldn’t even mount a defense. His head barely had any shape, his weapon had long been destroyed, and he was trying to see the world through eyes bleeding lines of blood.
He was in no shape to fight Theron. And yet, he insisted on it.
His death would not be mourned.
The lance ripped through Bamby, splitting him in two and shredding the rest into minced, bloody vapor.
All that was left behind was a head, a small bit of his shoulders, and legs that only had half of his calves remaining.
With RN’s part one coming to a close, I’m starting a new novel everyone 🙂 here’s an introduction:
Titanframe is a quasi mech/cultivation story that follows the main character, Grey. In this story, mechs are more like body suits and armors instead of building-sized, gundam-style.
Much like the other people of Earth, Grey is forcefully pulled into the Genesis Games as a participant, where he is chosen as the Frame Operator of Prometheus, one of the legendary Titanframes of a long lost past
At the start of the story, and for a long while after, Grey is unaware of this. What he does know is that if Prometheus has enough energy, it allows him to revive at a checkpoint placed in the past. So, Titanframe Re:Genesis is also a regressor/time loop novel that begins before the main character has experienced his first revival.
The last point of interest in the Genesis Games is though it is an ancient game with a history that goes back beyond the current ruling powers, in the present it has become a Reality TV Show where participants are the entertainment for intergalactic Clans, Sects, and various Powers. Placement in the Genesis Games is also very important because it decides positions in the Genesis Council–which is the political governing body of the universe–and also decides rewards that can position Clans to gain seats in future generations.
As such, while Grey is trying to survive, he is also dealing with Producers who not only want to make things more interesting, but also want to take his life because of his special abilities. This is where the time loop and revival functions come into play. Without them, it would be too improbable for someone who knows as little about the world as Grey does to survive.
Titanframe is essentially a mech-cultivation-timeloop novel where sci-fi and advanced technology meets regression and martials arts
