Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 577: Nayaka’s Plan Against Master Susanto!
"Urgh... Another day, another two games in a row..." Sheva groaned, feeling like his quality of sleep was falling since the tournament began. "What in the hell does the organizer think?! This is so fucking inhuman!" He grumbled under his breath, ignoring the messy bed hair, and looked at the mirror.
It was a brand new day, and as if a ritual had been established, it was quite normal for Sheva to start it with a complaint about the organizer. It wasn’t like he was as tired as yesterday or worse. Hell, the boy could feel his body adapted quite well to the intensity, and now, he felt quite energized to start the day.
Still, it was quite strange to start the day without being grumpy and blaming the organizer, as it had been his ritual in the last couple of days. Honestly, Sheva felt like a middle-aged man right now, grumbling the first thing in the morning over the working hour that started so early.
’Yeah, maybe, that’s how it feels to work 9 to 5, right?’ He couldn’t help but mutter while brushing his teeth peacefully.
Sheva himself didn’t know that he was being plotted by three of Indonesia’s most talented players last night. Still, even if he knew, the boy wouldn’t do anything about it. If anything, he would be more excited than ever, wanting to know what they were cooking for him.
While he was preparing for his day, the boy also started to set up a plan.
’First, I need to check on Nayaka first.’ He thought inwardly. ’I owe him one for being such a lousy teacher. At least, if I could help with his last preparation against Master Susanto, I don’t have to feel this guilty.’
Yeah, in the end, he decided to take a visit to his protegee. Hell, to alleviate his guilt, the boy even brought a lot of snacks here, as if he wanted to make amends. It also helped that Nayaka’s opponent this morning would be Master Susanto, the one whom Sheva beat yesterday. So, he would be able to help more, knowing full well the man’s current state.
After taking care of himself and having a lovely breakfast with his mother, he went straight to the venue, which, fortunately enough, was also the place where Nayaka stayed. It seemed the young boy’s family was quite wealthy, what with being able to rent a room here for a full week.
Once he met the boy, Sheva didn’t hesitate, giving him a bag full of snacks. From potato chips, the latest release from the bakery nearby, biscuits from so many brands, milk, energy drinks, to even candies, all of them were there, enough to give any normal teenager a visit to a dentist.
When Nayaka saw Sheva’s embarrassed appearance, the boy was stunned before letting out a laugh at the unexpected sigh. "Brother, don’t tell me you are feeling guilty here?" He asked, hiding his amusement.
"Ah... How should I say it..." Sheva just laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head with a sheepish expression.
Nayaka knew that he hit the right spot here, so the boy just sighed helplessly and said, "Come in, I am still in the middle of a vid-call right now."
"Um?" Sheva blinked. "Shall I leave first?" He asked, unsure.
"No, don’t worry, you know her, by the way." Nayaka waved nonchalantly. When he was back in front of the laptop, Sheva could see a familiar face there, and he couldn’t help but smile.
"Hey, Devi, I didn’t expect that you would stay connected with Nayaka like this. I thought you were in the middle of the class, you know?" He greeted teasingly.
The girl in question blushed immediately, and even with the bad quality of the camera, both boys could see the red tint appearing on her cheeks. "W—What are you talking about, Brother Sheva?! I—I am just here to make sure that we are not losing against that bitch!"
Sheva had a sweat drop on his face, somehow forgetting that the girl on the screen had a deep rivalry with Claudia.
Yeah, the girl was Devi, another one of Sheva’s students. He was glad, though, that they still stuck with each other even though Sheva himself forgot about them. "What about Duta? Where is he?" He couldn’t help but ask, inquiring about the last student of his.
"Oh, him? Still getting trapped with the school exam, of course." Nayaka snorted. "You should be the same, right, Devi?" He grinned playfully, knowing that the good girl in front of him was probably sneaking around to get a chance to talk to him right now.
"W—Well, it doesn’t matter!" Devi coughed, trying to hide her embarrassment. "A—Anyway, we are talking about how to deal with Master Susanto, right? Have you thought about it carefully?" She asked.
When the question was thrown, it was as if the girl turned on the switch, and Nayaka’s expression turned somber immediately. "Yes, I know it is a big risk, and I know Duta didn’t agree with this method. But I think the risk is worth taking here, and even if I lost, I would lose against one of the best players in this country, so there is no shame to that."
Hearing the serious conversation between those two, Sheva couldn’t help but chime in. "So... Anyone care to fill me in on what the plan is here?" He asked curiously.
For a moment, Nayaka and Devi just stared at each other through the screen before, in the end, the boy sighed.
"The plan is simple, really. I know that once we enter the endgame, I will not be his match. At all. No, what I want is to drag the game into a tactical battle. If he wants to make it simple with the French or the Caro-Kann, I will go for the fantasy variation or anything that is far from the mainstream path. If he goes for another one, it is far better! I am confident with my Italian Opening repertoire, and if it is Sicilian, that would be my bread and butter! I will refuse any easy exchange, and I will control the tempo since the beginning, and I don’t believe he will be able to maintain his composure for the entire game!"
