Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 579: Sheva VS Arfan Again!
Sheva could still feel his breath heavy, and his chest was rising up and down as if he had just done a full marathon. However, his cheek was rosy, and the boy could feel his vitality rise to the peak.
No, he hadn’t just done anything sexual with his student.
Hell, no!
First, he was a straight to the core, never indulging in any LGBTQ activity. Then, Nayaka was also just a 16-year-old boy, not even considered an adult in the eyes of the government. If Sheva dared to lay a hand on him, the boy was so afraid that the FBI would knock on his door at night.
’Oh, no, the FBI shouldn’t operate in this country, right? So, should that be alright?’ A thought flashed in his head before Sheva banished it quickly. ’No, no, no! What the hell am I thinking here?! I am not here to indulge that indecent thought! I have Anna with me, why would I sacrifice my queen for Nayaka?!’ He sneered disgustedly at his own thought.
No, his current state was because, somehow, Nayaka decided to indulge his childishness when the boy suddenly challenged Sheva to a race.
’Brother Sheva, let’s see who will arrive at the hall first! Whoever last has to pay for lunch!’
Then, without even waiting for him to answer, the boy dashed off instantly, leaving Sheva in the dust.
Of course, there was no way Sheva would let Nayaka do whatever he wanted like this, so his competitiveness took over as he also ran behind. That also created a ridiculous scene, where two teenagers were running around playfully throughout the luxurious hallway, ignoring all the stares from the guests.
Fortunately, even though he hadn’t finished his physical training mission, Sheva had done a lot of running recently, so he managed to keep up without collapsing after arriving at the hall. It would be embarrassing if he somehow suffered just from running for less than five minutes.
Seeing Sheva in this pitiful state, Arfan had his eyebrows arch so high they disappeared behind his hair before the boy wiggled them playfully. "So... You are late, coming here messily... Have you done something sinful before coming?"
Sheva, who was still drinking a bottle of water, choked immediately, staring at the boy in front of him in speechlessness and disbelief.
"What? It is a valid suspicion, you know?" Arfan shrugged innocently, not even trying to defend himself here.
"Just so you know, don’t let the girls hear you like that, or they would have your head before the game is over." Sheva smiled wryly. In return, Arfan just nodded solemnly, knowing full well how fierce the girls whom Sheva was talking about were. "Also, you have to ask that brat if you really want to know." Sheva nudged his head at Nayaka, who was grinning at him three tables away.
Arfan just raised his eyebrows once again, but this time, he didn’t say anything else, opting to concentrate on the game. Although the tension on his shoulder ebbed away after their little interaction, there was still a small part remaining, keeping his mind sharp as ever.
"This is going to be our first time playing against each other since last year, right?" He suddenly spoke with a reminiscing smile.
Sheva blinked for a moment, but a smile also formed on his face. "Yeah, that’s such a long time ago..."
"Who would’ve thought that you would leave us to the dust just in one year?" Arfan shook his head in melancholy. Then, his gaze hardened as he added, "Still, don’t think that just because you are far in a higher place, you can look down on me now! Let me show you how far I have improved!"
"Atta boy! That’s the spirit!" Sheva clapped enthusiastically, encouraging this confident, borderline arrogant behavior.
Honestly, he had heard the same tone over and over again in the last couple of days, uttered by Taher and Master Susanto before his games against them. Those two veterans also talked in the same domineering manner, as if they wanted to establish their prestige first before the real fight.
In the end, even though they still failed to achieve anything, Sheva was satisfied with their progress. Those two fought tooth and nail until their legs were chopped and they couldn’t move anymore, but their bravery really put Sheva in a difficult situation a few times in the game.
Now, with Arfan declaring the same shit, at least, Sheva was confident that the boy would have something under his sleeve, and Sheva couldn’t wait to see it unfold before his eyes.
’Oh, well, at least this is still better compared to them losing motivation since I am running too fast for them.’ He thought inwardly.
After waiting for a while, the alarm rang, and both players shook hands before starting the game immediately. As the white piece, Arfan pushed his queen’s pawn two squares away directly, going for the opening that all of Sheva’s opponents always used.
That was not the reason why he picked it, though.
Arfan knew full well at this point that Sheva was proficient as well in the Queen’s Pawn game, so hoping for him to slip because of his lack of experience would be stupid. Sheva just didn’t like the system, but he could still pull it like a pro.
No, the reason Arfan wanted to use this was that in the eyes of the strong predator, any trick would be useless. So, it was better to show off his cards since the beginning of the game, stepping forward with his best weapon on the board.
Sheva also pondered for a moment, trying to think of a way to deal with this situation.
’No, I don’t want to have another Catalan. The London? That would be interesting, but it will bite my ass later. King’s Indian? Dutch? Nah, too complicated for a peaceful morning like this, my mind will melt instantly if I try too hard. Wait, there is one!’
It was as if a lightbulb was turned on inside his head, as an idea suddenly took shape there. After everything clicked, Sheva started to make a move, and just in the third move of the game, Arfan was so stunned, staring at Sheva in disbelief.
’So, this is how you want to play?!’
