Book 3, Chapter 102: Solved

Once Chen Chuan entered the basement, his second self blurred out even stronger, and the further down he went, the stronger the intensity became. He also began to feel eyes trained on him from every angle.

Just then, the hair from the Flying Head on his wrist and the raccoon stone tablet he kept on him started trembling.

By the looks of it, the anomaly was really caused by a supernatural being.

After all, things left behind by supernatural beings only reacted to other supernatural beings. But why would the raccoon stone tablet also start trembling? Was it because it felt threatened?

The temperature in the area dropped slightly. After Chen Chuan reached the bottom of the stairs, he saw a locked metal door. When he pushed against it, creaking sounds came from the door frame. The bricks and the screws bounced off, and the moment Chen Chuan poured refined force into it, the door twisted and changed shape before falling backward with a bang.

Once the dust settled, Chen Chuan walked inside and saw a “tree.”

More accurately, it was a domain interference lifeform, but it was much larger than the Cactus he had seen in Zhao Qian’s mansion. It occupied practically the entire basement.

The branches extended outward and pierced through the ceiling as if they were intangible objects.

That wasn’t the most shocking thing about them, however. The much more terrifying thing about the lifeform was that there were arms hanging off the branches like vines.

The base of the trunk had human feet stacked neatly together. They spread outward in circles, along with the roots.

Chen Chuan did a quick scan. Some of the hands were thin, while others thick. The lifeform had to have removed them from different men and women and stuck them randomly on its branches, making them look like a hotchpotch of hands.

Attached to the branches, trunk, and roots were human hair. Some of them were also tied around the branches. Meanwhile, scattered all over the floor were piles of torn clothes.

Chen Chuan finally knew where the guests had all disappeared to. This lifeform was, without a doubt, a supernatural being, but it had to have gone through some kind of metamorphosis.

Supernatural beings could gradually transform if they were not taken out and kept getting an endless supply of life force. It made them stronger and stronger.

The reason Chen Chuan felt like he was being watched was because the branches that had stretched to the various corners of the hotel were trying to influence him.

If a normal person had come inside, they would have been attracted to the supernatural being or even already captured by it.

To think that it had managed to grow this much in just three years...

If Chen Chuan let it continue, who knew what would happen?

As if realizing that it could not influence Chen Chuan, the supernatural being let out a human-like screech, and the lights in the basement began flickering.

Now that Chen Chuan was done observing it, he plunged the Frost King Saber sheath into the wall beside him, grabbed the hilt with both hands, and drew the blade out with a whistle before releasing with one hand, spinning on his feet, and walking over.

The branches above him came swinging at him.

With an upward slash, Chen Chuan attacked them. In the past, the Frost King Saber hadn’t been able to do much to the Flying Heads, because the saber was unable to touch supernatural beings, but now, when it hit the branches, the bloodred line on the back of the blade turned brighter. With a crack, the branches were cut in half. The severed arms fell with loud thuds, and blood gushed out from within them.

After cutting down a bunch of branches, Chen Chuan felt his spirits lift.

In the past, he could only engage the supernatural beings in battles of attrition or use various unique methods to get rid of them. This simple and brutal method was a much more convenient way to take them out.

As he continued walking forward, he cleared out the obstacles in his way. A few breaths later, he was already forty meters closer to the trunk. When he was around ten meters away, he lunged forward and instantly arrived in front of it.

The supernatural being screeched at an even higher pitch. The human feet and hair-bound roots surged up from the floor to stop him.

But this just revealed that the trunk was its weakness.

With a shout, Chen Chuan jumped forward. The saber flashed in front of him and destroyed all obstacles around him. The severed limbs fell down like rain as Chen Chuan broke through. Once he was near the trunk, he grabbed the hilt with both hands and swung diagonally downwards while airborne.

A crescent-shaped flash charged down, and a long diagonal cut instantly appeared on the trunk.

The supernatural being screeched shrilly, and an odorless, red sap gushed out of the trunk. Once Chen Chuan landed, he didn’t stop. He twisted his waist and swung his saber to cut at the trunk again.

A cross-shaped wound was left behind, and red sap gushed out from it. At the same time, the supernatural being started pulsing and letting out a sound similar to vomiting.

With a loud squelch, countless organs and mangled torsos spilled out of the trunk until the entire basement was filled with them.

Chen Chuan kept his eyes fixed on the supernatural being. Even though it looked like he had dealt a heavy blow to it, the wound was closing up rapidly, which meant that his attacks hadn’t actually hit the supernatural being’s real weakness.

His mind raced, and he came to a decision. After repositioning his saber, he lunged forward and charged into the supernatural being through the wound.

Once he was inside, he looked up and saw tightly connected tissue all around him. It was pulsing, like it was breathing. Wrapped at the center of it all was something resembling a head.

The organs and sap had to have been providing nutrients to the head, but they had all flowed out through the wound. Chen Chuan had no doubt that the supernatural being was trying its best to protect the head.

He sucked in a deep breath and took a few steps forward before spinning on his feet and slicing diagonally at the head.

Just then, the wound on the trunk closed up behind Chen Chuan. The supernatural being had used the hands, feet, and torsos to cover up the wound and released the red sap to quickly heal itself.

But halfway through, it stopped.

A beat passed.

Then, the trunk, the hands, and the feet started shrivelling up at a rapid pace. In the end, as if they could no longer be sustained, they fell to the floor so hard that they smashed to pieces and turned into black ash.

During the entire process, Chen Chuan didn’t hear a single sound, as if the things that fell were just intangible objects that did not exist in reality.

In a short ten seconds or so, the trunk collapsed and turned into a thick layer of ash on the floor.

Chen Chuan removed his hat and patted it against his body to dust it off. Then, he put his hat on again and looked around to make sure that the supernatural being had indeed been killed.

There seemed to be something under the pile of ash. After pushing around with the Frost King Saber, Chen Chuan found a fist-sized object.

He bent down and picked it up before blowing off the ash. It was a heart-shaped object that seemed to be made of wood and jade.

It had to be the object left behind by the supernatural being.

Chen Chuan put it away and left the basement. The hotel had been devoid of life when he came, but after he took out the supernatural being, insects started coming back.

His Realm Pass also started functioning again, so he contacted the City Patrol to ask them to wrap things up here. It was only a secondary goal, though. What he truly wanted was for them to tell their superiors that the hotel had returned to normal, so there was no need to employ special measures to ward off the place anymore.

Once Chen Chuan returned to the first floor and left the hotel, he sucked in a deep breath of fresh air and walked to the parking lot.

Gang members were surrounding his car. There was even an SUV in front of it, which had attached a hook to his car.

Chen Chuan checked the crowd using his Realm Pass and found that they were all gang members with a rich history of criminal activity and being in prison. The gang leader even had a bounty on his head.

Calmly, Chen Chuan reached into his pocket, and, with a squeeze, broke a stone into more than ten pieces. He casually rolled one of the pieces onto his finger.

“Someone came out!” one of the gang members shouted once he saw Chen Chuan.

Not expecting someone to actually be able to make it out of the hotel, the gang leader was stunned and squinted at Chen Chuan. The moment he saw him, the gang leader realized that Chen Chuan was no easy target.

Hence, he decided to show him some favor.

He patted one of the lackeys on the shoulder. “Go and tell him that the government said not to let anyone in or out. We were keeping watch over his car just now, but we’ll let this slide if he gives us some money for our efforts. We won’t stop him from leaving either.”

“Got it.” The lackey threw away his cigarette and took a few other lackeys with him to swagger over. Once they were near Chen Chuan, he said, “Hey, you—”

Thud!

Before he could finish, he collapsed on the road.

The other gang members reacted quickly and realized that something had gone wrong. They immediately spread out and drew their weapons, but before any of them could figure out what had happened, they started collapsing like flies.

Chen Chuan walked to his car.

The gang leader noticed that things were going south rapidly. He moved away from Chen Chuan’s car and ran away. Just then, he realized that his Realm Pass was functioning again, and he immediately gave an order to the people outside. “Lock down the area! We have trouble! Grab your weapons! Prepare to fight!”

Chen Chuan didn’t even look at him. He just continued to his car while flicking another stone piece at the gang leader. Despite being more than twenty meters away, the gang leader stumbled a few steps forward before falling.

Then, he stopped moving.

Chen Chuan reached his car and opened the door.

Just then, he stopped for a moment and looked behind him. The boy was watching him.

Chen Chuan gave him a nod before getting into the car, shutting the door, starting the engine, and driving to the blockaded entrance.
