Rogue Villain-Chapter 314: Losing Patience
Even through Ackster’s death and rebirth, the Demon Sword maintained its parasitism on Ackster. It was too busy gorging on the gift Trana had left him to really care about anything else. After all, few things could compare to a dragon’s vitality. But if there were, it was Ackster.
A dead dragon’s vitality was also a finite resource. Even if Ackster’s vitality was a little lacking in quality, it was endless. However, Ackster lodged the sword into the ground to punish it for its crime of theft. He had planned on leaving it there for an indefinite time. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
But when dealing with the Dragon of Life, a vitality thief might be too handy to let go.
It seemed like its punishment had sharpened the sword’s appetite, and it happily devoured the vitality of the nearby zombies, even without coming in contact.
Ackster looked at the sword in its hand. It was awfully obedient now. It was also stronger now that it had processed the dragon’s vitality to strengthen itself.
’I wonder what would happen if I fed it Ichor.’
Ackster entertained the thought as he made sure all the zombies were done for, but he didn’t act on it. Now wasn’t the time to experiment since the next wave of zombies was already on the way.
The second wave was a little stronger, but all of them succumbed to the Demon Sword’s hunger.
’Yep. Too handy.’
The third wave wasn’t different from the second, even if it was stronger than the first and second waves of zombies.
However, it seemed like Mastrax was finally noticing what was happening when three waves of his automatic defense zombies dried up without a chance to resist. The prey he had caught this time wasn’t ordinary. It seemed like he would have to pull out the big guns.
Ackster held out a hand to stop his comrades as he faced forward. Just like the previous times, a group of zombies appeared out of thin air just outside their vision. It wasn’t a disorderly bunch of would-be drowned sailors or ordinary people.
The first clue regarding their increased strength was the overwhelming vitality in their bodies. Ordinary people would explode with so much vitality stuffed into them at once. This new group had a better foundation. They were stronger than the earlier groups, which were probably just there to tire them out further.
However, stronger physical bodies able to handle more vitality weren’t necessarily a threat.
Ackster’s Demon Sword hummed with eagerness as it sensed the walking bundles of delicious food.
Ackster grinned and slashed out, letting the sword devour all that juicy vitality.
"Mastrax! Save yourself the trouble and invite us to your lair. We’re just here to talk."
Since it was evident that the Demon Sword was the ultimate counter to Mastrax’s zombies, Ackster hoped they could settle this as quickly as possible without wasting any more time.
Considering Mastrax’s abilities and the fact that he controlled this entire island, Ackster was confident Mastrax heard him. After all, he had noticed a different kind of gaze coming from the latest round of zombies. They were no longer facing the island’s automatic defense and intruder response.
However, it seemed Mastrax wasn’t interested in listening just yet.
Yet another group of zombies appeared. This one was even stronger than the last, and the Demon Sword couldn’t devour all of the vitality at once. But it still only took two attempts to drain the zombies.
After a tense pause, Mastrax sent the next wave. This time, it was an endless number of low-level zombies that could barely trample the grass they walked on since they were so weak. But it would have been enough to overwhelm people if they were stranded at sea and then forced to walk through the island for several days without anything but grass and trees to eat.
Ackster sighed.
"Seriously. Out of all the dragons I’ve met, only one’s been sensible."
Ackster lashed out again, his sword devouring all the vitality of the zombies.
Ackster looked at the ground.
"Fine. If you won’t invite us in, I’ll force my way in."
Ackster roused his vitality and flooded the sword with it. He could use his fists. But now was an opportunity to try and progress his martial arts using weapons. The island’s inner layer had felt at least as tough as a dragon’s scales. It would be the perfect target to delve into the budding feeling he got when he tried to use his martial arts to slash a dragon.
Ackster mixed his mana and Will into the sword as he took a stance and followed the Unimportant Whatever Art’s moves while he lashed out toward the ground.
The soil didn’t stand a chance and didn’t interfere with the force of his strike. Ackster’s sword blew the ground away until nothing remained except a sturdy surface below the dirt. Ackster’s ranged attack didn’t even scratch the unknown and strange material waiting for them below the dirt.
But that didn’t dissuade Ackster, and his sword was still laced with incredible power that made the very air tremble.
Ackster cleaved through the air with the pitch-black sword and enough force to make the sword just a little scared.
The sword struck the ground. Since he had used a lot of his strength, Ackster thought he would do more than just create a loud clang that spread across the island and made shockwaves in the water around it.
But that’s all that happened. His sword didn’t even leave a scratch.
"Motherfucker."
Ackster raised his sword again. Since it didn’t break, the Demon Sword lost a pinch of its fear. But it was still worried that Ackster wouldn’t hold back and use enough force to break it.
Ackster didn’t worry about the sword. Even if he was trying to push the limits of his physical body for the first time since his rebirth, he was also pumping the sword full of his sources. It wouldn’t break that easily.
Ackster focused on his body’s movements with all his senses.
He struck again.
