Rose Manor: Tycoon's Relentless Chase-Chapter 318 - 299: Something Happened
Fu Yuling’s behavior cannot be judged by conventional reasoning; she’s a lunatic.
"What do you mean missing?" Fu Jichen’s face suddenly turned grim, and his tone was chilly, "Explain it clearly."
"She accidentally scalded her leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment. I don’t know how she escaped from the bathroom. By the time we realized she was missing, we had searched the entire hospital but couldn’t find her." The man guarding her knew he was at fault, and his words lacked confidence, "We tried our best to find her."
"When did she go missing?"
The man was extremely guilty, hesitated for a while, then decided to report truthfully: "...Three days ago."
Fu Jichen’s face grew even darker. She had been missing for three days, and they only informed him now. How could these people be so careless?
The man tried to make excuses: "We thought we could find her. Who knew..."
Fu Jichen didn’t want to hear his excuses. He hung up the phone and called Qu Mo, asking him to check if Fu Yuling’s name was on any flights from Los Angeles to Beicheng three days ago.
Fu Yuling was unwilling to be confined in the villa in Los Angeles. Initially, when she heard news from her guards, she tried every means to escape, causing chaos. When she found these methods didn’t work, she began to threaten with suicide. Last time she got injured, she was taken to the hospital for treatment and still attempted to escape.
This time she found a chance to break away from control, she would definitely return to the country immediately.
Fu Jichen instructed Qu Mo again: "Check those disreputable friends Fu Yuling used to hang out with, maybe she’s hiding at one of their places."
Qu Mo was reliable, and within half an hour, he had results.
"Fu Yuling indeed returned to the country three days ago. We haven’t found her residence yet."
Fu Jichen pressed his eyebrows, feeling frustrated that a group of strong men couldn’t even keep an eye on a sick woman: "Find her as soon as possible and send her back to Los Angeles, so she doesn’t cause more trouble."
Every time he thought of how Fu Yuling was daring enough to harm him when she went mad, he wished she didn’t exist in this world. Yet, she held the name of the Fu Family, and he couldn’t do anything to her.
If this issue escalated, the Fu Family becoming a laughing stock would be minor, but if it caused grandpa to get overly angry, that would be major.
Today was a day off, and Fu Jichen had no other plans. He called Shen Jianian while grabbing his coat to leave.
The phone connected, and he heard the evenly spaced "beep beep" sound, but no one answered.
Shen Jianian should have been home by now after seeing off Zhou Ruo and her son at the airport today.
Fu Jichen took the phone away from his ear; his heart suddenly raced with a sense of foreboding. He couldn’t quite place where the anxiety came from, probably due to the troubling news of Fu Yuling’s disappearance.
Just then, his phone rang, and it was Zheng Yi calling.
"Mr. Chen, there’s been an incident with Miss Shen; you might need to come over." Zheng Yi paused and mentioned the name of a hospital.
Fu Jichen’s brow twitched. He couldn’t wait to get to the hospital to understand the situation; he needed to know now: "Explain clearly, what happened to her?"
The situation had to be explained from half an hour ago.
In the restroom, Shen Jianian noticed a cleaning lady peeking at her with a sinister look. When she confronted the lady, the woman’s eyes evaded, which was very suspicious. Shen Jianian became more cautious and was about to leave when the cleaning lady called her, asking for help.
Generally, when someone calls you, there’s an instinctive reaction to pause for a moment.
It was in that momentary pause that the cleaning lady suddenly covered Shen Jianian’s nose and mouth with a cloth soaked in an unknown liquid.
Shen Jianian held her phone and managed to dial an emergency number just in the nick of time, but her mouth and nose were blocked, so she couldn’t speak. She hoped Zheng Yi would understand.
That day, he introduced himself as Zheng Yi, saying she could call him Xiao Zheng. He wasn’t just a driver; he was also quite skilled.
His past experiences made Zheng Yi vigilant, so he was particularly cautious when driving for Shen Jianian. Recently, he was her designated driver, and he had repeatedly advised her to set his number as one of her emergency contacts. In an emergency, she should call him since he’d be nearby and could respond quickly.
Fu Jichen was busy with work, occasionally had to travel, and couldn’t always ensure his phone was reachable. Even if he received her call in time, distant help might be of no immediate use. Calling him was the most reliable option.
Zheng Yi, concerned she might not take it seriously, had explicitly told her so, and it was also Mr. Chen’s intention.
Though Shen Jianian thought the likelihood of encountering danger in everyday life was small, she still kept it in mind and set Zheng Yi as an emergency contact, as he advised.
She didn’t expect it would actually come in handy.
When Zheng Yi received the call, he was smoking in a nearby smoking room. He pressed the answer button, but didn’t hear Shen Jianian’s voice. His heightened alertness warned him that something was amiss.
Shen Jianian wouldn’t normally call him if she was in the restroom.
He threw the cigarette butt to the ground, stepped on it to extinguish it, and strode out of the smoking room. Regardless of whether there were people in the women’s restroom or if he would be regarded as a pervert, he directly kicked the door and went in.
In the aisle between the sink and the stall, a woman in a blue work uniform was tightly covering the lower half of Shen Jianian’s face, the tendons standing out on her bony hand, showing that she was using great force, intending to make Shen Jianian pass out quickly.
Someone unexpectedly barged in, and the woman widened her eyes in terror, her body shrinking back.
She had clearly placed a maintenance warning sign at the bathroom entrance after entering, how could someone come in, and it’s a man...
Zheng Yi quickly subdued the person, twisting her arms behind her back and pressing against the stall door.
Shen Jianian lost support and collapsed to the ground. She had held her breath in time, not inhaling too much, just feeling a bit dizzy and weak, not yet to the point of passing out.
Zheng Yi spoke softly into his earpiece, and the people secretly protecting Shen Jianian revealed themselves, controlling the assailant. He then drove Shen Jianian to the nearest hospital.
That cloth was tested to contain a high concentration of ether.
When Fu Jichen arrived at the hospital, his forehead was covered in sweat. Shen Jianian had just finished her checkup and was still feeling uncomfortable, lying on the hospital bed with her eyes closed, resting.
Zheng Yi was waiting outside the ward. Seeing Fu Jichen, he first communicated Shen Jianian’s test results to reassure him, "Miss Shen’s health is fine. She only inhaled a small amount of ether. Here is the test report."
Fu Jichen quickly glanced over the few sheets of paper he took, noticing the damage to the respiratory mucous membranes, his brows furrowing. He grasped the doorknob and entered the ward.
Shen Jianian hadn’t fallen asleep. Hearing the door open, she opened her eyes and turned her head towards the doorway. She saw a tall figure in her line of sight, and as the person approached, she could see the urgency and concern in his eyes.
"Was it Xiao Zheng who called you?" Shen Jianian murmured softly, "I told him not to call you, why doesn’t he listen to me? The doctors said I’m fine." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
She naturally didn’t realize that although Zheng Yi was responsible for her travel and safety, he was essentially employed by Fu Jichen and had to report everything to him without concealing anything.
Fu Jichen sat by her hospital bed, holding her soft little hand, "How are you feeling now?"
He had probably already seen her examination report; she couldn’t hide it even if she wanted to. Shen Jianian answered truthfully, "A bit dizzy and a little nauseous, but that’s all."
Fu Jichen released her fingers, "I’ll go ask the doctor if there’s any way to ease it."
"The doctor has already seen me," Shen Jianian grabbed his hand, "The doctor said breathing fresh air, resting a lot, and eating some fruits, vegetables, and protein to supplement nutrients would be fine. It’s not serious, just like car sickness symptoms."
Fu Jichen frowned, keeping silent, with a big lump of frustration in his chest, not knowing whom to vent it to.
Shen Jianian raised her arm, signaling him to come closer.
Fu Jichen didn’t understand her intention, yet he obediently lowered his head, and Shen Jianian’s forefinger touched his brow, smoothing out that deep crease, "After I rest for a while, we can go back."
Fu Jichen immediately lost all his temper.
Shen Jianian spoke slowly, word by word, "Why did that cleaner target me? I haven’t made any enemies with anyone."
Fu Jichen’s eyes were deep, with the once-calmed emotions stirring again, "This matter is still under investigation. I’ll tell you once we have results."
Shen Jianian responded with a nod, and shortly after, she fell asleep due to exhaustion.
Fu Jichen stayed by her bed for a while. When she was deeply asleep, he got up and walked out, closing the door gently behind him.
Zheng Yi was still outside. Seeing Fu Jichen come out, he straightened his posture.
"Where is she?" Fu Jichen’s face was taut, a violent aura swirling inside him, desperately needing release. He touched his pocket, suddenly realizing this was a hospital and he couldn’t smoke, forcing himself to hold back.
Zheng Yi said, "She’s been detained by our people and is under interrogation, but she refuses to talk, shaking her head and saying she doesn’t know anything. Our people checked; she is indeed a cleaner, with a sick twelve-year-old daughter who hasn’t started school."
Fu Jichen’s black eyes narrowed slightly. A twelve-year-old sick daughter, just like how the driver responsible for the accident years ago had a disabled uncle, a son with cerebral palsy, and a recently deceased mother. In the end, all he said to the police was that he didn’t know or couldn’t remember, sentenced for traffic offenses to two years and six months.
By now, he has already been released.
He had people follow the driver, who didn’t return to his old life, and moved to live elsewhere, borrowing money to open a small shop, still not making much money.
Fu Jichen felt he must have overlooked something...
The phone rang, bringing the latest news from Qu Mo; Fu Yuling borrowed a sum of money from an old friend.
The friend didn’t know what happened to Fu Yuling, only aware that she was the eldest young lady of the Fu Family, and based on this identity, transferred her ten million without a second thought.
