Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 396 - 394: The Final Test (Part 4)
"Phew~" He let out a long breath, and when he saw a familiar car shape emerging, Tang Xiaoquan finally felt relieved.
It seemed that Wei Dazhuang had not betrayed them, at least not yet, but at the same time, they could not make a final determination on his "undercover identity". All mysteries would only be resolved once Wei Dazhuang responded to the "trial" they proposed today.
Opening the car door, Wei Dazhuang got out of the car and waved to the operation team members to get in.
When the two sides crossed paths, Wei Dazhuang’s lips moved subtly, and then each continued on their way, showing no trace of any abnormal expression.
Half an hour later, the transportation team returned to the base smoothly and immediately removed the SD card from the car’s recording device.
Everyone gathered in the living room, eagerly awaiting the information the video would reveal.
As usual, it was Wang Zhongyu who operated it, and soon, blurry figures appeared on the black-and-white screen. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
He fast-forwarded to the moment when Wei Dazhuang got into the urban management car and displayed it in front of everyone.
In the footage, Wei Dazhuang’s large hand swiftly moved across the steering wheel. Even though his facial expression was indiscernible, Tang Xiaoquan’s suspicion of his undercover identity grew slightly based on his quick actions alone.
Because if Wei Dazhuang had a guilty conscience, he couldn’t possibly act so swiftly, and his current actions were obviously instinctual reactions born from nervousness.
This indicated he was worried that his actions might be discovered by the base, fearing exposure of the plan hidden inside the cigarette pack.
So... Tang Xiaoquan’s lips curled into a slight smile.
Next, as the car moved inside, a noisy clamor erupted.
Most of it was filled with words that insulted personal dignity, which made the survivors clench their teeth and fists in anger after hearing them.
The door opened, Wei Dazhuang got out of the car, and through the outer camera, the survivors noticed he didn’t head toward the player’s tunnel but directly to the tent area.
This action made the curve on Tang Xiaoquan’s lips deepen even further.
Because similarly, if Wei Dazhuang was not an undercover agent, he should have immediately gone to Dai Sha to report the situation, but instead, he returned to his residence.
This indicated he was likely going back to check the "instructions" inside the cigarette pack.
As for what happened next, Wei Dazhuang drove the car back out.
"Let’s hear it, what does everyone think?" Xu Renjie spread his hands, inviting everyone to share their opinions.
Wang Qiang was the first to speak: "What’s there to say, Brother Dazhuang is definitely an undercover agent. If he really wanted to harm us, he’d just report to Scar, and you wouldn’t have a chance to come back!"
"Yeah! Qiang’s got a point. I also think Brother Dazhuang is a good person. Considering what Zhao Huilong said before, perhaps he realized the latter found out his identity and planned to silence him," Wu Chao echoed.
"Hmm!" Old Zhao nodded in agreement with the two young men’s views but didn’t forget to express his own doubts: "Whether Dazhuang is an undercover agent, I think everyone has their judgment. But objectively speaking, I hope everyone holds off on forming a conclusion. After all, we’ve communicated the test requirements to Dazhuang. At least wait until the final results come out before making judgments."
Old Zhao spoke tactfully, for after the previous incident with Zhao Huilong, he really didn’t dare to trust others easily anymore.
And Xu Renjie agreed with Old Zhao’s suggestion, nodding in approval: "I know many of you are quite familiar with Wei Dazhuang and understand his temperament, but I also believe, as Old Zhao just pointed out, we should wait for the final test results. From my perspective, Wei Dazhuang’s actions today don’t really demonstrate anything; he might be waiting for the opportunity to catch us all in one go!"
Bluntly, as someone with no prior involvement or connection with Wei Dazhuang, Xu Renjie’s analysis of the entire situation was noticeably more objective than the Survivor Team’s.
And for Xu Renjie, since Wei Dazhuang could in the past win the survivors’ trust with a righteous identity, it already showed that he possessed the necessary cunning.
So, his current "concealment behavior" might well be a precursor to "beating around the bush."
Because even fools could tell from the "trial" they offered that a bigger action lay ahead.
After hearing everyone’s statements, Tang Xiaoquan nodded indifferently, especially agreeing with Xu and Zhao’s views, which almost aligned with his own.
Ultimately, the survivors reached a unified conclusion: to wait for the transportation operation three days later to see how Wei Dazhuang would specifically react.
On the other side, inside the sports hall, with an angry roar, A Cheng was kicked out of the tent.
"Damn it, Wei Dazhuang, don’t take my tolerance for granted! I don’t want to see you, get lost now."
"Don’t bark at me, I’m here to find my woman, none of your business!"
The quarrel was loud; the daily squabble at tent No. 38 had become a routine at the sports hall, and the surrounding crowd was long used to it.
However, if anyone ventured inside the tent at this moment, they’d discover that the truth was not as it seemed.
Wei Dazhuang held out a piece of paper filled with small writing to Lin Junfu.
As the latter cursed, his eyes quickly scanned over the paper: "Little Tang and the others sent a message. There’s a task for us."
"What task?" Simultaneously, with pen in hand, he scribbled a few strokes.
Wei Dazhuang promptly pulled out a packet of already unsealed cigarettes from his pocket, whispering, "The task is inside this pack, but I couldn’t find it."
Grabbing the cigarette pack, Lin Junfu skillfully turned the inner and outer packaging inside out, but just as Wei Dazhuang stated, he too found nothing.
"Damn, do you take this seriously or not! And your woman! I say your face is truly thick!" To avoid arousing others’ suspicion, Hu Xiaodong continued to play his role, bemusing the situation with loud insults.
"Maybe it’s inside the cigarettes themselves!" Wei Yang’s sudden whisper undoubtedly reminded Lin Junfu.
Recalling the young man’s past smarts, it was indeed unlikely he’d put such an important message in an obviously apparent place.
Quickly dumping out the cigarettes, all six people in the room grabbed some, and following Wei Yang’s earlier suggestion, began to inspect each cigarette carefully.
Soon, Yan Hua made a discovery. When bending a cigarette, he noticed a crease inside. Upon closer inspection, sure enough, at the tail end of the cigarette, in the center of the filter, was a circular cut, which, unless you knew beforehand that something was up with this pack, almost no normal person could spot this "tip-off".
