Running A Cemetery in North America-Chapter 468 - 326: The Battle of Kunlun Ruins
In the ancient fragments of oracle bone script, the character for Sun is written as a circle with a black dot inside.
The character for Heaven is written with the lower part resembling the character for large, representing a person.
Above the large character is a circle without any black dot.
Above a person's head is not the Sun, but something similar, which the ancient ancestors called Heaven. What is that exactly?
What did the ancient ancestors actually see as Heaven?
Later, the oracle bone script for Heaven evolved into a second form, with a horizontal line above the large character.
In oracle bone script, the horizontal line represents a plane, Earth.
Could it be that the sky the ancient ancestors once saw actually contained a piece of land?
Was the sky above the ancient ancestors' head actually Earth?
Perhaps there was a heavenly body very close to Earth, so close that the ancestors felt like there was a piece of land overhead.
And on that land, there existed living beings, leading the ancestors to believe that Immortals resided in the Heaven, where it was said to be their abode.
Perhaps certain high mountains on the land allowed access to where the land in the sky was.
This is why the ancient Emperors performed rituals to the gods at mountain peaks.
In the ancient mythology, stories related to the Moon are extremely rare, even nonexistent.
The legend of Pangu turning his left eye into the Sun and his right eye into the Moon was first recorded in the Three Kingdoms Period's "Five Fortune Annual Chronicles," not an ancient myth, but later artistic elaboration.
Considering the Moon at night is the most prominent presence in the sky, this situation is extremely inexplicable. Logically, the Moon should be as important as the Sun, capable of giving rise to a culture of Moon worship.
But no ancient civilization ever regarded the Moon as the embodiment of deities, and ancient myths about the Moon all emerged post-flood.
In the legends of various civilizations around the world, they unanimously recorded that a long time ago, there was a terrifying flood that almost destroyed everything.
Humanity, however, survived fortunately, and after this, records of the Moon naturally appeared.
Moreover, Earth's temperature differences decreased, resulting in seasonal regularity, and Earth's rotation and revolution emerged, making it suitable for human habitation.
This seems too coincidental.
Scientists, through studying Moon soil samples, discovered that the soil is very ancient, much older than Earth.
This indicates that while Earth had not yet formed, the Moon already existed.
Ancient myths spoke about the story of the Water God Gonggong.
It is said that the Water God Gonggong clashed with the Fire God Zhurong, starting a war because of their disagreements. Gonggong was defeated and fled embarrassingly to Buzhou Mountain. Upon seeing Zhurong approach with his troops, Gonggong, in shame and fury, rammed his head into Buzhou Mountain. The mountain collapsed, the heavenly pillars broke, Earth's axis shattered, causing the sky to tilt northwest, resulting in celestial bodies shifting there, while Earth's southeastern part wasn't filled, resulting in floods and dust settling.
The sky collapsed, revealing a hole, and then the Celestial River poured forth, flooding the world.
This event has two versions.
The "Huainanzi·Astronomy" mentioned: In the past, Gonggong fought Zhuang Xu for the position of Emperor and in anger rammed into Buzhou Mountain, causing the heavenly pillars to break, Earth's axis to shatter, the sky to tilt northwest, hence the celestial bodies shifted there; Earth's southeastern part wasn't filled, hence floods and dust settled.
It describes Gonggong and Zhuang Xu's struggle for the throne resulting in this great war.
The "Classic of Mountains and Seas" records Gonggong as a descendant of the Flame Emperor, while Zhurong was the grandson of Zhuang Xu Emperor Chong Li, the fire official of the Gaoxin clan, granted the surname "Zhurong clan" by the Yellow Emperor.
This is why the "Records of the Grand Historian·Supplement to the Annals of the Three Sovereigns" mentions: Among the vassals was the Gonggong clan, who used intelligence and punishment to strengthen dominance but did not reign, utilizing water to control wood, resulting in a battle with Zhurong. Upon losing, in anger, he rammed his head into Buzhou Mountain, causing its collapse, heavenly pillars to break, and Earth's axis to shatter. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Though the two versions differ, they both mention one fact, that Buzhou Mountain was indeed destroyed.
Only then did Nüwa repair the sky.
After Nüwa repaired the sky, there was no longer a piece of land up there, and the ancient ancestors on the ground could no longer see living beings residing on the land in the sky.
Nor could they reach the sky through mountain peaks, an event known as the "Disconnect between Earth and Heaven."
When Nüwa gathered stones to repair the sky, nowadays the sky comprises the atmosphere, hence stone-refining to repair the sky seems incongruous, indicating the sky back then was not the atmosphere.
Ancient ancestors merely failed to comprehend the ways of Immortals, so they could only record it with concepts they understood.
Although crude, it inevitably contains insights into the true situations that the ancestors witnessed.
Thus explained, it can be speculated that the ancient sky was an entity, resembling Earth suspended above the ancient ancestors, later leaving Earth due to the collapse of Buzhou Mountain, triggering the great flood.
Afterward, mythological tales like Chang'e Flying to the Moon emerged.
Yao myth mentions one event: the current Moon suddenly appeared at some point in time, bringing nighttime illumination to Earth.
Arcadian legends depicted that before the flood, there was only a blazing Sun, and it was only after the flood that the Moon suddenly rose, bringing light at night.
Various indications suggest that the Heaven observed by ancient ancestors was none other than the current Moon.
After Buzhou Mountain's collapse, the Moon rose to the sky, moving increasingly farther from Earth, thus gradually forming into the Moon.
After Buzhou Mountain collapsed, the world witnessed the Disconnect between Earth and Heaven, where people living on the ground could no longer reach the sky via high mountains.
Heavenly beings could no longer descend to Earth, leading to a rupture in many ancient legacies.
