School Hunk or Childhood Sweetheart?-Chapter 428 - 429: Favoritism
The little guy saw that the policewoman would not help him, so he turned to Sheng Yan and pleaded, "Uncle, could you please talk to the beautiful lady for me? I want to change my name, I don’t want to be called by my current name anymore."
"Sorry, I have to take him back first."
Before arriving, Sheng Yan had no idea the little guy wanted to change his name; he thought he had gotten lost and that’s why he had come to the Police Station. He had rushed over, skipping his classes, only to find out the little guy had run away on his own.
Naturally, Sheng Yan wasn’t going to indulge him in his whims, and he immediately started to walk him out.
"I’m not going, not going back."
The little guy broke free from his grip and tried to run back, but Sheng Yan, quick as lightning, caught him and lifted him by the back of his shirt.
Instantly, the little guy was like a tiny turtle, flailing his arms and legs in mid-air. While struggling, he shouted, "Let me go, I’m not leaving..."
Sheng Yan was certainly not going to pamper him, and he promptly pulled out his phone and asked, "Are you going or not? If not, I’m calling your home now?"
"Not going."
A stubborn look spread across Sheng Ye’s face as he seized the opportunity to hug a pillar at the door, stubbornly refusing to let go.
Sheng Yan wasn’t going to spoil him, so he immediately made a video call to Shen Weiyi.
Learning that the little guy had actually run to the Police Station alone to change his name, Shen Weiyi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Then she had Sheng Yan turn the phone towards the little guy, and the moment Shen Weiyi’s face appeared on the video, the little guy instantly behaved.
There was nobody at home he was afraid of, except for Shen Weiyi getting angry.
"You want to change your name? Why?" Shen Weiyi didn’t start by scolding him, but instead patiently asked.
It took a while before the little guy expressed his desire to have a name as nice-sounding as his sister’s.
When exactly he had this idea, Shen Weiyi didn’t know, but wanting to change his name represented his beginning to have his own thoughts and will, a sign of a child’s awakening self-awareness.
Shen Weiyi saw this as a good thing, signifying that the child was slowly growing up.
On the other hand, the fact that he thought his sister’s name sounded nicer than his own probably wasn’t just about the names; it might also be because they had recently been more attentive to her sister, causing the child to feel comparatively neglected.
This was their parental negligence.
It was also something they needed to reflect on.
Shen Weiyi felt it was necessary to have a good chat with the little guy when they got back.
"Alright, if you don’t like it we can change it, but first come back with your uncle. Let’s discuss what name you would like, and then mom can accompany you, okay?" Shen Weiyi gently said to him.
"Okay!" The little guy finally let go and followed Sheng Yan back home.
After ending the call, Shen Weiyi sat in the chair and carefully reflected on her attitude towards the two children during this period.
Because the second child was the only girl in the family and the youngest, everyone seemed to favor her more and paid more attention to her, inadvertently neglecting the elder child.
They hadn’t realized this before.
It wasn’t that they didn’t love him, but the love they gave him wasn’t as much as they gave to the sister.
Children are naturally sensitive, and perhaps because of this, he began to doubt his own name.
He wasn’t looking to have a name just like his sister; he was seeking as much attention as his sister received.
Thinking this, Shen Weiyi couldn’t help but feel heartache and guilt.
Because Shen Juanzhi had only given birth to her, from childhood to adulthood, she had enjoyed preferential love. Only those who have been favored can understand the happiness of being favored.
