Chapter 54 -54: Summoning_1
“Assembling forces will take some time, how soon will the disaster occur?”
Colin didn’t ponder the old butler’s words for too long and responded a few seconds later, “We have at least about seven hours to prepare, and how well we handle certain matters on this first day will determine if we can survive smoothly through the next seven days.”
“Seven days?” Helena interrupted, picking up on the term.
“Yes.”
Colin nodded, not waiting for a reply, and asked, “I have a question, during this time, do you have a way to seek assistance from the outside world?
“Like finding some ‘Virtue Knights’.”
If there was a “Humility” to act in concert, his pressure would be greatly reduced.
That kind of extremely reduced presence was just too BUG…
Most of the time, it really wouldn’t be noticed until a head was actually chopped off.
Unfortunately, Helena shook her head, “We cannot make contact, this place is indeed closed off by some kind of power, and we are no longer able to seek help from the outside world.
“Besides, you haven’t answered my question yet.”
“Alright then, forget it, I can’t explain too much as to why insisting on surviving seven days will ensure safety, but you just have to trust me—by then, I can guarantee the disaster will be resolved.”
After pausing, Colin continued,
“Now, we should quickly gather forces.”
Reluctant to speak, huh? It’s just as His Highness said, this man has many mysteries… Helena pondered briefly before saying, “The power of a city is usually managed jointly by the Church, the Knight Legion, and the City Lord, but currently, due to a cult’s affair, both the ‘Virtue Knight’ and the City Lord are absent. We can seek help from the Holy Healing Church, and I will help you contact Archbishop Laurenson stationed here…”
It’s this bishop that I’m worried about… Colin sighed and interrupted her, “If things go as anticipated, the source of the disaster will occur within the ‘Holy Healing Church’…”
“How could that be? The Holy Healing Church is supposed to be…”
Helena’s voice suddenly faltered as she spoke, only now realizing something was amiss when she combined it with Colin mentioning tomorrow’s disaster.
Immediately after, she realized that things had just gotten complicated.
That was a regional bishop!
On par with a member of the “Virtue Knights” who wielded one or two powers of virtue!
Underneath her gray hood, Helena’s expression grew serious. She was unclear about the specifics, but at this moment, her focus was not on questioning but on quickly thinking things through before she continued,
“Without considering the Church, we need the help of Warden Calder. Even though he’s just a regular warden, he has enough knowledge of Black Stone City. He was part of numerous missions to eradicate the Magic Fog when he was younger…
“He may not be the strongest in Black Stone City, but he has considerable prestige, which is why he was assigned to reception duties today. To understand more, it’s best to bring him here.”
“Then let’s fetch him quickly.”
Colin could no longer care about what might be exposed; to be honest, he actually had a fairly good impression of this warden.
After all, aside from being slippery and artful, there weren’t any major issues with him.
Before long, a portly middle-aged man with a beaming smile on his face arrived at the small inn. Just as he walked in, he sensed the heavy atmosphere and then noticed the familiar figure from the afternoon seated there.
Helena repeated the information about the disaster to him but did not mention the Church.
After listening, Warden Calder’s eyebrows twitched, and he suddenly thought of something. Although still uncertain, he cooperatively replied, “A terrible disaster? This catastrophe couldn’t have come at a worse time…
“Knight Ail has taken his elite away, and the City Lord also mobilized a portion of the town’s guards. Currently, including the city defense and various other soldiers, we barely have a total of seventeen hundred men. Therefore, I suggest that Miss Helena…
“You could use your rights as a noble to request assistance from Archbishop Laurenson. As far as I know, although he is not a primary combatant, his realm is sufficiently high. Even “Virtue Knight” Ail Knight might not be able to confront him. It would be much easier with him intervening.”

“Indeed, we do need to visit Bishop Laurenson next, but before that, we need to make some preparations, preparations for potential conflicts that may arise.”
“Conflicts?”
What kind of conflicts could arise? Calder was taken aback, about to say something, when he suddenly sensed that something was amiss, and quickly realized there was something deeper at play.
Miss Helena was not unaware of the situation in Black Stone City; knowing about the disaster, her first port of call ought to have been the Church to seek help.
Yet, in our conversation just now, this noble lady prompted me to contact other defense forces and subtly suggested that I take charge, while she didn’t mention the Church, which would obviously be the best to contact. Then there’s the matter of the conflicts…
Considering this, and recalling the recent events surrounding Beast Transformation Syndrome, Calder—whose sensitivity to matters outstripped Helena’s—suddenly had a bold but not very clear idea—
The disaster is related to the Holy Healing Church!
As Warden Calder’s mind was whirling, Colin spoke up, “The first thing we should do is to check Bishop Laurenson’s status. We need ample preparation and strength because the disaster probably originates from there.”
Just as I expected, there’s something wrong with the Holy Healing Church!
Calder was struck with a feeling of surprise that was not entirely unexpected, as if a weight had finally been lifted from his heart—he had long harbored suspicions about the Holy Healing Church.
He then realized that the simultaneous departure of Knight Ail and the City Lord was probably not solely attributable to the Gluttonous Feast; these people were likely causing trouble behind the scenes.
But before he could say anything, an epiphany flashed through Warden Calder’s mind. Hearing Colin’s voice, he suddenly remembered something and looked at Colin with a ghost-seen expression—
It was you, you little rascal that cost me a year’s salary and made me lie in bed for a couple of days unable to set foot on the ground!
“You, you are…”
“At times like this, let’s not worry about those things. We had better deal with the ‘Holy Healing Church’ first.”
Having been previously admonished, Helena now spoke up, “I am willing to vouch for Lord Colin in the name of the Heddon Family.”
As soon as she spoke, the most intense reaction came from the old butler standing behind her, but before he could say anything, he was cut off by a wave of Helena’s hand.
The Heddon Family, indeed it is them. This way, even if there are issues, they cannot be blamed on me. What can I do in the face of these nobles other than agree?… Calder mused to himself, standing up with a pleasing smile on his face and a bow of the head, he uttered, “Yes.”
He did not hesitate in the slightest with his self-effacing compliance, because at this moment, even if the City Lord or Knight Ail were here, he could only say, “Yes, Miss Helena.”
“Take this and gather a group of people. In the process, we must not alert the Holy Healing Church.”
Helena handed over an exquisite badge, engraved with a half-man, half-horse creature, to Warden Calder.
Taking the badge with extreme caution, Calder confirmed its authenticity and then turned to leave, ready to swiftly inform some of Black Stone City’s other officers and the like.
‘Miss Helena’s status seems to be even more distinguished than I thought. When she brought up the Heddon Family, the warden seemed quite shocked.’ Colin thought to himself, sitting on a soft fur-covered chair.
Meanwhile, the aged butler who stood behind Helena inadvertently glanced at her draped in a grey robe. Recalling her skeptical approach to the study and then her one-sided attitude after coming out, he couldn’t help but sigh softly to himself.
