“Huff huff huff~”
Colin sat up abruptly from the bed, the blood beneath his collapsed left eyelid causing severe pain as it seeped out…
And his right eye’s pupil uncontrollably shifted into a vertical slit, devoid of whites, resembling that of a beast.
After a good while…
The throbbing in Colin’s head slowly subsided, and his right eye regained its clear distinction between the black and white, but it was bloodshot.
He reached out for something at hand and wiped away the bloody streaks on the left side of his face that resembled tears of blood.
“Did I just hear ‘it’ saying ‘save me’?”
Colin was uncertain because as he heard that voice, his entire consciousness in the dream had been scattered by the loud noise.
He could only vaguely sense that amongst the roar, there was such an emotion.
Translated into language that humans can understand, it should probably be “save me”, “help me”, “it hurts so much” – conveying a plea for help.
“Really, why yell so loudly? I couldn’t hear clearly.”
Colin sat on the bed, pressing a tissue to his left eye with his left hand while his right hand rubbed his temple, easing the residual pain that came in waves.
“If it really was a cry for help, what can I do to assist?”
Colin thought for a moment without much of a clue, certain that rushing into the cathedral was definitely out of the question—a gut feeling told him it would likely result in his death.
But not giving that guy a hand would end in death as well.
Moreover, the key issue was that he didn’t know how exactly to lend a hand to ensure “Tyrant” didn’t die before he left.
“Wait until daylight tomorrow and use the ‘Book of Fate’ to foresee what will happen if I enter that grand cathedral.”
Colin decided, as he had one last “Book of Fate: Fragment” left.
As time slowly moved on during the wait, the third day dawned.
As before, from within him a cry like a wail emerged, driven by the brutal urge of the “Beast Transformation Syndrome”.
And with the emergence of that howling…
Some more “Beast Transformation Syndrome” patients appeared.
However, just as the “Book of Fate” had mentioned, the scale of today’s outbreak was hardly a fifth of the first day’s—the commotion outside was pitifully small.
Pushing open the door, he saw Warden Calder with an excited expression, declaring:
“Hahaha, Lord Colin, today is another day filled with hope.”
The disease hardly surfaced today, which probably meant that something went wrong with the ritual, causing this summoning to fail.
Perhaps before long, they could storm into the cathedral and begin their hunt for the monster!
When everything was over, Warden Calder couldn’t help but imagine, almost splitting his lips with a grin as he foresaw himself reaching the pinnacle of his life, becoming a “Virtue Knight”, winning a noble’s child, and stepping into a successful life in the upper echelons of society.
Of course, marrying someone like Miss Helena, a woman from a great noble family, was impossible, but daughters of lesser nobles were within reach.
“Hmm…”
Colin nodded, revealing little joy, and prepared to deal with the “Beast Transformation Syndrome” patients just as he had the day before.
But pausing as if recalling something, he turned to Calder and said, “Starting today, prioritize capturing all ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ patients alive and keep them confined.”
“Alive?” Warden Calder was taken aback, but he did not question it and agreed.
However, after watching Colin leave, he furrowed his brows, reminding himself that Colin was a “Beast Transformation Syndrome” patient, a Second Order one at that, mysteriously maintaining his human form.
Just as things seemed to be settling down, he started collecting those fluids…
This move reminded him of Bishop Laurenson, bringing to mind that, so far, all the “Beast Transformation Syndrome” patients dealt with by Colin seemed to have no corpses left behind…
Could it be…?
With unease, Warden Calder had brought several military officers from Black Stone City to find Helena, who was heavily guarded within the castle, and explained the situation.
However, he didn’t reveal Colin’s “true identity”; he merely focused on Bishop Laurenson’s previous deeds and subtly linked the two.
“Do everything he says, without hesitation,”
After listening, Helena simply continued to support Colin, believing in all the decisions made by Her Holiness the Saintess.
“This…”
Even after I’ve made it so clear, she still supports him? Warden Calder couldn’t help but wonder if this Helena noblewoman harbored some feelings for that guy—like falling in love with him?
Otherwise, how could she seem so completely compliant to his every demand?
These past few days, it’s almost as if she simply did whatever he asked.
Is this what love is supposed to be?
Calder even suspected that if Colin asked Helena to come to his room at night, she would comply…
Clutching his confusion, Warden Calder and his associates left that floor.
“Warden, are you not being overly sensitive?” Calder’s tall and skinny assistant couldn’t help but speak up. He thought highly of Colin, who had been charging at the front every day, decisively and fiercely killing enemies, earning the respect of many soldiers.
“Go away, you blind bat, what do you know?”
It was he and his assistant who had captured Colin, but now, just because the guy wore a robe, his assistant couldn’t recognize him, more blind than a blind man…
Shaking his head, Warden Calder didn’t linger on the issue, as after reporting to Helena, his aim was accomplished—
He had left the handling of the matter to Helena in front of the other officers.
That way, any decisions would be on Helena, and should any issue arise, the major blame wouldn’t fall on him.
However, the thought of Colin possibly becoming Helena’s son-in-law filled him with jealousy.
Because, in that case, Colin’s life would leap forwards, and he would have everything desired all at once.
…
Outside the city, Colin faced off against a Second Order “Beastification” sufferer, feeling the beasts weaken as their howling subsided.
He could easily ward off all their attacks.
After the battle, Colin seized the opportunity to pull the trigger, and with a gunshot, the “Beastification” sufferer lost their kneecap.
Afterward, he twisted off the creature’s remaining limbs as if dealing with a crab.
The nearby soldiers immediately stepped forward, bound it with iron, and dragged it into a cage for imprisonment.
A few hours later, this wave of “Beastification” onslaught was handled.
Forty percent of the “Beastification” was captured alive.
Taking advantage of the daylight, Colin confirmed the ‘Book of Fate’ timing had passed, found a safe spot, adjusted his mental state, and used the ‘Book of Fate’.
However, this time, everything ended in less than two minutes.
[You approached the church, filled with confusion, but soon realized that the church was enveloped in a thick, dark green fog.]
[You sent a soldier inside, only to see him quickly go mad, furiously biting into his own flesh…]
[This made you aware of the terror of this dark green fog.]
[Yet, just as you decided to retreat, you found yourself surrounded by the dense fog.]
[Almost instantly, you lost your sanity, gnawing at yourself.]
[The ritual of consumption began…]
[Soon, you became a part of Him.]
When the ‘Book of Fate’ effect ended, a tremendous sense of hunger erupted within Colin.
