Scumbag Fate System-Chapter 2: Void Target
The screen didn’t blink again.
It simply waited.
Reinhard stared at it for three seconds before sighing and settling back against the benched.
"Talk." He spoke.
[Hello, Host! I’m the Fate System and-]
"Skip the introduction, explain to me about that ridiculous mission?"
[Ahh, right. You see that girls hold inside of her the Void. But she cannot control it and so, if nothing is done, she will explode.]
"So, the entire academy gets blown up and all the students die?"
[The professors as well.]
"Hm, and just for knowledge’s sake. If I was to leave-"
[You can’t escape since it will sweep through the entire continent.]
"What about another continent?"
[There will be out Main Fates that will impact those.]
Reinhard was quiet for a moment.
He’d been briefed on catastrophic outcomes before. The results being cities, infrastructure, entire networks collapsing if an operation failed. He’d always processed those numbers professionally, the way you had to when the alternative was shock or disbelief. But an entire continent was a different scale, and he allowed himself exactly three seconds to feel the full weight of it before filing it where it needed to go.
Three seconds and then work starts.
"So basically, if nothing is done, the entire world will be affected in the future?"
[Yes! But worry not, host! If you can sleep with the Main Fate, then you will be able to create a seal on her and stop this!]
Reinhard didn’t say anything, his gaze shifted to the blue sky and then asked. "And if I don’t then I’m screwed?"
[Yep, but I believe in you! In addition, capturing a target will also make you stronger!]
"How exactly?" Reinhard raised a brow.
[You will gain an upgraded version of her Sigil and further ways to improve yourself!]
Reinhard slowly nodded. "Fine, then show me my target. Let’s see what I’m working with."
[Of course, host! I’m sure-]
"Less talking and more showing."
The blue screen began to change before returning back to the familiar awakening ceremony room. It showed before he or the original owner had stood up and went to touch the crystal.
"Come forward, Yor Noctyne." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Instantly the area fell silent.
But none of the students turned their heads, instead all of them continued staring ahead. He looked toward the aisle, where a blue-haired girl began walking forward. Every student near her had unconsciously created distance without seeming to realize they’d done it
This is the biggest red flag if I ever saw one.
He studied her without thinking. Her posture was too perfect, not relaxed, but like someone who had learned exactly how much space to take up and stuck to it for so long it became a habit. She stepped up on the resonance circle and the rocks trembled.
Then without waiting she placed her hand on the crystal.
And it instantly went black.
The black crystal spread out black dots that landed on the rocks. The rocks rose up before they began to swirl around, becoming a black wheel around Yor. It spun faster and faster before it exploded out, forming black flames in the awakening circle.
On the crystal was a half disk that looked similar to a black hole.
"The Void Sigil." The Elder Man said with a sigh.
The Sigil Shine before rushing into Yor who raised her hand and it formed on the back of her right hand.
Her silver eyes glowed.
Then something moved behind her in the recording. Something huge shifted in darkness that shouldn’t exist in a well-lit hallway.
The image froze on her face, but Reinhard couldn’t look away.
He wasn’t focused on the Sigil or what had happened during the awakening. What held him was her expression as darkness gathered around her. She stood in the middle of it all with a look he knew too well. The careful calm of someone who had learned that the world wasn’t built for people like her, and who had made her peace with that fact years ago.
It wasn’t indifference or coldness but simply acceptance.
He’d seen that same look in his own mirror. It was the face of someone who had learned that wanting things only meant watching them slip away.
The video paused.
Reinhard stared at the image for a couple more seconds. "You want me to seduce the woman that wants no friends or companions?"
[I believe in you! You had never missed it when it came to mingling with others!]
He fell silent since the system was right. His success rate when it comes to women was close to a hundred percent even when the initial part failed. Even now his mind was already thinking of ways he could connect with Yor.
Reinhard felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time. A problem that was genuinely interesting.
Still...Why is the tutorial at the hell level? He exhaled slowly. No... It’s like any other mission, I just need to find a way to constantly interact with her. It’s impossible for success on the first hit but a constant strike might work.
He pushed himself off the chair and stretched his arms. "Alright, I will begin."
[I am so glad, host!]
"Yeah, yeah. But I have a question, do I only need to seduce her to gain a Sigil?"
[No, you can do others, but the Sigil won’t be upgraded because they aren’t fated to you.]
"That’s fine. And what’s the time limit before everything goes to hell?"
[The first Fate Event which is the Void Descent will take place in two weeks.]
"..."
[Don’t worry host! It just means she will start to lose control!]
"I have no faith in you but fine. And now what I want you to do for me is stay quiet."
[Host?]
"Only speak to me when it’s extremely important."
[Host!]
Reinhard ignored the system and walked past the blue screen that began to fade away.
...
The evening light shone on the academy golden-white buildings, the bridges between the towers and crystal pillars.
Reinhard walked through the area, enjoying the warm sun on his skin. He didn’t pay attention to the chatter and laughter of the other students around. Only noting how they were all in groups, some studying while others were arguing.
He walked past them.
"It’s the great noble."
"The bastard without shame."
He ignored it, already knowing some of them were trying to bait him. Whether it was intentionally done on purpose or a task forced upon them by a noble was irrelevant. He needed to focus on finding Yor.
Fortunately, his luck seemed to be good on this part.
As he turned the corner, he saw her leaving the twin lecture building with people parting the way. He slowed down and watched the students that were also leaving the building was walking a bit behind her.
And the best part, none of them were paying attention to him.
That’s perfect.
He began trailing behind them.
By the time they reached the four stairs going down, it was just him walking behind Yor. He glanced forward to see she was heading to a stone building.
At the top was the words: Resonance Club.
She approached the doors that had two academy guards at the entrance. Yor didn’t pause to greet the guards and only one of them nodded his head at her. Before she pushed the door open and entered inside.
Reinhard watched the door closed behind her and waited ten seconds. Then he headed over, causally walking with his gaze focused on the door and ignoring the guards.
But the moment he got within ten inches, he felt an invisible pressure.
"Only club members are allowed, please leave or meet the person you wish for in another place and time."
"Then I’m here to apply to become one."
The Academy guard on the left glanced at him and spoke. "You cannot apply for the Resonance club."
"It’s a club." Reinhard raised a brow while noting there expression didn’t change. "Do I need a special invitation or something?"
"Correct."
"Then I will just request one from the teacher overseeing-"
"A member needs to give you one."
Why the hell is this place so damn tedious? This is even more suspicious...
"Is that the only way?"
"Unless you can get the headmaster to agree."
He scoffed, as if the headmaster had time for him right now and he wasn’t even in the academy currently. He took a step forward to see through the windows in the front. But then he felt the invisible pressure on him further descend.
It swept over and almost made him fall to the ground like something heavy being pressed down on him.
Damn... These guys must be either an Adept Hunter or higher.
The world of Astra ranking system was pretty simple. There were only five official ranks: Initiate, Adept, Ascendant, Lord, and Sovereigns.
Once a person gains their Sigil and officially becomes a Hunter, they become Initiate. From what he heard, it broke the mortal limits placed on them and allowed them to sense magic around.
Ascendants were leagues above them and the pressure itself made it impossible to continue forward. He grits his teeth before stepping back and the pressure fading away.
"I’m sorry. You’re not cleared, we cannot allow non-members inside." The guard on the right said bluntly.
"Alright." Reinhard said with a sigh before turning around and walking away. He didn’t rush, headed towards the right to a corner before stepping back against the wall.
"Since I can’t do it normally, let’s find a new potential friend." He muttered before moving to an area where he can view the building without being seen.
After two hours of observing, the sun was setting and the door opened up. He saw a bunch of students walking past the area and building. He was surprised no one else had entered into the building Yor had walked into, making him grasp how private this club was.
Then the door opened up and finally Yor walked out. But once again she was by herself with that indifferent look on her face. She continued forward with the group of students walking past, subtly moving out of the way.
Reinhard glanced at this before shifting his attention away.
Behind Yor came another girl with black hair, glasses, and crimson eyes. She was walking quickly down the steps and slightly hunched over. She didn’t go to any group, instead tensed up when she passed by one of them and relaxed after. He watched her hurried off alone in the direction of the academy lunchroom.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"If I need an invitation to get inside. Then I suppose I will get it."
