Chapter 264: Chapter 264 : Shen Jingwei, The Interpreter (1)

"SONG XIAOLING!"

Yan Renzhong was unprepared for this situation at all.

He, Song Yaya, and the other people around them watched in horror as Song Xiaoling threw herself at the oncoming train at Platform 4.

A collision seemed to be unavoidable, but at the last moment, someone managed to drag Song Xiaoling into safety.

The train hurtled past the platform, then abruptly ground to a stop. The doors swung open, and a flood of people poured out.

Song Xiaoling was pressed to the ground by Shen Jingwei, whose heart almost leaped out of his chest in fright just now.

Song Xiaoling craned her neck with a lot of effort, only to look at the train parked at Platform 3.

The doors closed and it departed, carrying all her hopes with it.

Song Xiaoling let out a guttural cry filled with sorrow.

"Noo," she wailed. "Nooo... Let me die. I want to die. Nooo..."

At last, Shen Jingwei’s thin rod of patience snapped.

He pulled Song Xiaoling to her feet and gave her a slap across the cheek.

Not hard enough to send her tumbling to the ground, but more than enough to stun her to silence.

Even her tears stopped flowing.

Song Xiaoling pressed a hand against her burning cheek.

"Y-you... You..."

Not even her own father had ever laid a hand on her.

"I have it enough with your selfishness!" Shen Jingwei snapped.

"You need to understand that the world does not revolve around you. You also need to take care of people who take care of you.

Yan Renzhong is NOT your toy and Yaya is NOT your puppet!"

"..."

Song Xiaoling’s mouth fell open slightly as she gaped at Shen Jingwei.

The sudden eruption of Shen Jingwei’s fury left both Yan Renzhong and Song Yaya stunned. At the same time, Yan Renzhong could hear the genuine concern beneath Shen Jingwei’s anger, and his expression gradually softened.

He circled an arm around Shen Jingwei’s waist and pulled him close.

"There is no need to get so emotional, Xiaoling. No one is trying to take Yaya away from you."

Song Xiaoling slumped forward as she sobbed uncontrollably.

"You are taking her away from me. When we were sharing custody over her, I entrusted her to you completely. But now you actually want to hire a nanny to be there always when Yaya spends time with me! How is that fair???" She howled.

Shen Jingwei threw a glance at the crowd surrounding them.

"What’s wrong?" They mumbled to each other.

"A lover’s spat?"

"They are talking about custody..."

"Did that man dump his wife for a male lover?"

"Damn, that’s harsh. But that male lover is totally my type..."

Shen Jingwei’s thin facial skin quickly turned crimson.

But when some of them began taking pictures of them, his face quickly turned pale.

"Yan Renzhong, the people," he whispered while nudging the other man urgently.

At this point, they were going to become viral on Weibo. Shang Ruohai might take their heads for this gross offense.

Yan Renzhong sighed. He gave Song Yaya to Shen Jingwei and took him and Song Xiaoling by their hands, heading for his car.

Wen Guilin, who had been sitting anxiously inside the car, immediately stepped out when she noticed the group approaching.

"Manager Wen, we need your help," Shen Jingwei said as soon as they reached the woman.

"We caused some ruckus inside the train station. Some people took our pictures."

Wen Guilin groaned.

Although she was used to handling PR disasters day in and day out, she never enjoyed the process.

Not even once.

"Let me take a look at the situation," she decided. "Why don’t you sit inside the car and talk."

She nodded toward Song Xiaoling, whose eyes were swollen from crying, and Song Yaya, who looked terrified of everything.

"I will come with you, Manager Wen."

Shen Jingwei was about to follow Wen Guilin when he felt Yan Renzhong’s hand clasped around his wrist.

"No," the man said in a stern voice. "Jingbao, stay. I want you to know everything I know."

Shen Jingwei stole a furtive glance in Song Xiaoling’s direction. With her head drooping low and a blank expression across her face, she looked no different from a mindless zombie.

Shen Jingwei sighed.

"Alright. Get inside, all of you."

Although Yan Renzhong asked Shen Jingwei to be present in their family discussion, the latter had the good sense to not voice his opinion at all. He was there only to be Yan Renzhong’s silent supporter.

He thus sat on the driver’s seat, trying to be as silent as possible so he did not intrude on the siblings.

On the other hand, Song Yaya, who was too young to understand anything but still had to sit there and listen, was in no better predicament.

If anyone wanted to know her opinion about this senseless quarrel between her big brother and big sister, Song Yaya wanted to tell them that she just wanted them to reconcile and get along with each other.

That shouldn’t be too lofty an ambition, right?

Song Yaya who sat next to Shen Jingwei threw the latter a miserable look. Shen Jingwei merely gave her a curt smile, gesturing for her to be silent as well.

Sitting in the backseat together were the two main characters of the siblings’ drama -- the big brother Yan Renzhong and the big sister Song Xiaoling, blood-unrelated siblings whose relationship was marred by fundamental disagreements, some more unsettling than others.

And Yan Renzhong, the insensible man, actually started the talk with a question grossly unsuitable for a child’s ears.

"Do you really think that we will continue getting along with each other after you tried to trap me in a relationship using a baby I do not want?"

Song Yaya’s little mouth fell open. She turned to look at Shen Jingwei and mouthed, unseen by her elder siblings, "What baby?"

Shen Jingwei, the silent supporter who suddenly found himself thrust into a new role as a professional interpreter for young children, sighed inwardly.
