Chapter 275: Chapter 275 : Assessment At CNC Studio (2)
The stranger covertly stepped away, but Shen Jingwei’s hand clamped around his arm before he could escape.
"Hey, dude! Let me go!" the stranger hissed, trying to shake Shen Jingwei off to no avail. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Shen Jingwei was all smiles as he held the stranger’s arm firm within his grip.
"Senior Shang, long time no see."
Shang Ruohai, whose intimidating presence was enough to make the poor young talents bow their heads and shake from fear, closed the distance between him and Shen Jingwei in several long strides.
His secretary, Secretary Chen followed close at his heel.
"Who is this?" Shang Ruohai asked as he looked the stranger up and down with a frown.
"You don’t know him?" Shen Jingwei asked, sounding genuinely surprised. "Why, he said he knew you personally. In order to be accepted into CNC Studio, all I need to pay is the meager sum of 8,000 Yuan."
"..."
The poor man was scorched by Shang Ruohai’s devastating glare for an entire minute before the latter turned his head and gave his secretary an instruction.
"Secretary Chen, call security. After he returns all the money he scammed from candidates, take him to the police station."
"Yes, Sir."
Secretary Chen dialed the number of the security department in a flash.
Several uniformed guards poured into the waiting room in an instant. Upon hearing Secretary Chen’s order, they grabbed the scammer and dragged him out of the waiting room like the criminal he was.
"No! Mr. Shang, please! I was wrong!" the man cried out in anguish, but Shang Ruohai, this very important person, did not plan to waste another second on him. His focus was directed on Shen Jingwei.
"Come with me, Little Shen."
"I need to remind you that I am waiting for my turn for an assessment interview," Shen Jingwei said.
Shang Ruohai opened the door and looked at him with an impassive expression.
"I know. With me."
"..."
It felt weird to sit opposite Shang Ruohai in a formal setting. Not to mention that Shang Ruohai supposedly had a very high position within CNC Studio. To Shen Jingwei’s knowledge, his assessment should be handled by a low-level talent acquisition officer and not the manager.
"Well, there is no need to beat around the bush," Shang Ruohai said as he flipped through Shen Jingwei’s portfolio casually. "Welcome to the company. From today on, you are part of CNC Studio. During your stay here, I will act as your personal mentor. If ever you encounter any problem in any aspect of your life and career, immediately come to me."
"..."
That sounded too good to be true.
Shen Jingwei cleared his throat.
"That was unexpectedly quick," he commented.
A corner of Shang Ruohai’s lips tugged upward into a sneer.
"What, did you expect to go through the full assessment cycle? After knowing each other for so long? I think we are past that."
Shen Jingwei laughed.
"I simply didn’t expect you to handle my entry to CNC Studio personally, that’s all."
Shang Ruohai flashed him a dazzlingly brilliant smile.
"You are welcome."
"..."
Shen Jingwei heaved a sigh. He was thankful, but...
"Is this related to Yan Renzhong?"
Yan Renzhong admitted to pulling a lot of strings behind Shen Jingwei’s back to promote his career. Taking into consideration that he also served as Shang Ruohai’s champion, it was not too difficult to put two and two together.
And yet, Shang Ruohai completely denied this allegation.
"This is purely an executive decision," Shang Ruohai spoke. "Although, if it boosts your ego, I don’t mind telling you that I acquired Beihai Entertainment purely to drag you over to my side."
The last sentence was spoken with such a saccharine smile across Shang Ruohai’s face.
"..."
Well, it couldn’t be that.
Shen Jingwei possessed a healthy dose of self-assurance, tempered by a clear-eyed understanding of reality. He was able to distinguish between wishful thinking and realistic expectations.
No matter how close Yan Renzhong and Shang Ruohai, this pair of mentee and mentor, were, Shang Ruohai would never buy out a whole company just for Yan Renzhong’s sake.
So why...?
Shen Jingwei made another educated guess.
"If you become my mentor, does that mean that I automatically become your champion?"
Shang Ruohai’s smile morphed into a smirk.
"More or less. But if you are worried about being targeted, I fear that your worries come too late."
"..."
"I am sure that you notice how many incidents you encountered during the shooting of ’Dance Of The Dragons’. Let’s say that most of those were not exactly accidents."
"..."
Was that supposed to make him feel better?
"Is this going to affect Yan Renzhong in any way?"
Shen Jingwei continued digging for the reason, but his guesses fell flat on the ground, blocked by Shang Ruohai’s poker face.
"Focus on yourself and not Yan Renzhong. Come, let’s talk about future collaborations..."
An hour later, Shen Jingwei left the room with a lot more questions in his mind.
The number of talents from Beihai Entertainment, who waited for their assessment interviews in the waiting room, already decreased. Shen Jingwei wondered if the majority of them got accepted or not.
At the very least, they did not have to pay 8,000 RMB to get in.
Shen Jingwei took one last deep breath before he headed to the parking lot, where Zhu Dongyi already waited to take him back to the Red Jade Pavilion.
When Shen Jingwei arrived home, Yan Renzhong had yet to return.
He sat alone on the couch, pondering about everything that happened that day.
Somehow, it still did not make sense to him.
Or maybe he was just too suspicious and less trusting?
Shen Jingwei shrugged to himself.
Anyway, right now, he had some free time. He already ordered more boxes of bird’s nest for Yan Renzhong. Might as well make some while waiting for Yan Renzhong to be back home.
But before that, he should go wash his face first...
Lost in thought, Shen Jingwei gazed into the bathroom mirror. A fleeting movement in his peripheral vision drew his attention. A small object, hidden behind the mirror, rolled out and fell with a soft thud into the porcelain sink.
