Second Take On Romance - The A-List Actor Wants Me-Chapter 291 : The Kunlun Snow Lotus Award Ceremony (6)
Chapter 291: Chapter 291 : The Kunlun Snow Lotus Award Ceremony (6)
"Congratulations to Mr. Yan Renzhong from CNC Studio!"
Eyes closed, Yan Renzhong threw his head backward and let out a sigh teeming with relief. Next to him, Feng Jietang cursed in a low voice.
Nevertheless, a win was a win and a loss was a loss.
Feng Jietang casually patted Yan Renzhong on his back.
"Get up there, you bastard," he said.
Yan Renzhong beamed at him.
"Why, thank you, Feng Jietang. I do not expect less of you."
He soon left his seat to receive the award on the stage.
Mr. Wang presented the golden trophy to him amidst thunderous applause. From his position, Yan Renzhong couldn’t see anyone clearly, let alone spot Shen Jingwei in the crowd.
"Good evening, everyone," he began his speech.
"Wooohooooo!!!" came the reply from the crowd.
"Emperor Yan, we love you!!!"
"Yan Renzhong, Yan Renzhong!!!"
Yan Renzhong beamed in all directions.
"I am humbled and overjoyed to be the recipient of the esteemed Kunlun Snow Lotus Award for Best Actor in this period."
"First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to CNC Studio for their invaluable support throughout the past five years. I specifically owe a debt of gratitude to my mentor, Shang Ruohai. Without his belief in me and his constant encouragement, I wouldn’t be here today.
I am also indebted to my esteemed co-stars, Shen Jingwei, Feng Jietang, Ye Lingxia, Lang Yuxuan, Lin Ruoye, Zhang Jie, Tang Huan, and others, whose contributions have been instrumental in my achievements.
Thank you for inspiring me and pushing me to be my best. This award is as much yours as it is mine."
As each name was called, the spotlight fell on the individual.
Shen Jingwei was unfortunately not in his seat.
Yan Renzhong felt a knot of unease forming in his throat.
Well, maybe it was for the best, he thought to himself.
Because he was about to make a difficult and heartbreaking announcement.
"I thank all my fans for their unwavering support and love throughout the years. Unfortunately, this award marks my last appearance in public for a while. I am going to take a break from acting to address a personal health matter."
The crowd held its breath, a collective gasp of astonishment. A moment later, a low murmur rippled through the audience, growing louder and louder as the news sank in.
The reporters almost went insane. If they did not fear being dragged away by security guards in an instant, they might have rushed to the stage and thrust microphones at Yan Renzhong’s face for some more details regarding this personal health matter.
Because if it was such a serious condition, how come no one knew about it?
Wasn’t Yan Renzhong attending to his activities as usual in the past few weeks?
Just what was going on?
A sad smile formed on Yan Renzhong’s lips as he let his gaze wander across the hall.
"I will be gone for approximately several months. I hope to keep updating my fans on my condition. When I return, I will return stronger and better than before."
"Nooooo... Yan Yan," a female fan’s voice was heard crying out from outside.
"Emperor Yan, what happened to you?"
"How long have you been sick?"
"Yan Yan, please get better soon, wuuuuuu..."
Yan Renzhong raised the hand holding the trophy and waved at the audience.
"I will see you when I see you."
Afterward, he returned to his seat next to Feng Jietang, who looked at him like he were a ghost.
Yan Renzhong shot him one of his brilliantly dazzling smile.
"What is it, Feng Jietang?"
"You... are you okay?" Feng Jietang sputtered. He half-expected Yan Renzhong to pass out right then and there, right before his eyes.
"If everything goes fine, I shall survive," Yan Renzhong quipped.
"..."
Feng Jietang’s eyelashes drooped. He almost appeared sad. Lost, even.
"You must not die," he suddenly said. "If you die, Little Shen is going to be devastated."
A corner of Yan Renzhong’s lips tugged upward into a half-smile.
"Why, I thought you would be glad if I were not around. Then you can have him all for yourself."
Feng Jietang’s head whipped up in a flash.
"Well, if you happen to not survive, you shall rest in peace knowing that I will treasure Little Shen and shower him with all the love and attention I have."
"..."
This rascal.
The ceremony progressed steadily. The following awards were presented with fanfare and applause. As the night wore on, the air grew thick with anticipation, particularly in the back area. It was because the last elusive award was the one in the Rising Star category, typically given to one of the promising talents who received the bronze-rimmed invitations.
For the Rising Star award, all nominees were called to the stage one by one, where they stood in a row, facing the crowd, awaiting the announcement of the winner.
When Shen Jingwei’s name was called, he emerged not from his appointed seat but from the backstage area.
"..."
Yan Renzhong frowned.
Feng Jietang gaped.
"Hey, what was Little Shen doing there?"
"..."
No one had an answer to their question.
Only after all the nominees appeared on the stage that the MCs summoned Shang Ruohai to present the award.
Shang Ruohai too emerged from the backstage.
He sauntered toward the stage and shook the MCs’ hands one by one.
"Welcome, welcome, Mr. Shang Ruohai from CNC Studio."
"This period’s Rising Star is a very special person."
"Special indeed," Shang Ruohai agreed with a smile.
"Well then, without further ado, we shall leave Mr. Shang with the honor of presenting the award."
Before they left, the MCs handed over the coveted golden trophy and a lavish bouquet of flowers.
The MCs left the stage, and Shang Ruohai was left standing at the podium and facing the crowd. Yan Renzhong’s brows furrowed even deeper when he saw Shang Ruohai’s face. Was it just his imagination or was Shang Ruohai’s left cheek swollen?
Shang Ruohai beamed at the crowd.
"Tonight, I have the honor of presenting the winner of the Kunlun Snow Lotus Award in the Rising Star category."
The crowd broke in another thunderous applause.
Shang Ruohai held onto the trophy and the huge bouquet. He then slowly made his way down the row of celebrities.
