Chapter 135: A Strange Event

Drai waited in silence, observing the scenery and ruminating on various things. This time, the process was completed in under an hour.

Drai felt a familiar shift inside him. He couldn’t help but worry when he opened his notification screen.

[Assimilation complete.]

[Experience and skill points acquired.]

[User has leveled up. Stats have been adjusted.]

[Strength +4.7]

[Constitution +4.3]

[Agility +1.8]

[Dexterity +1.1]

[Intelligence +1.5]

[Transcendence +0.1]

[SP +6]

[New skill available.]

’Phew... Yeah, this is more like it. I don’t know how it would compare if I had leveled up naturally, but the tradeoff is quite worth it. Now I can increase my rate of progress without sacrificing my stats.’

Drai looked at the notifications once again.

’Looks like I didn’t get a unique skill... Is it because I used various essences from dozens of creatures? Hmm... I don’t think it matters too much, but I should keep this in mind for future assimilations.’

Drai went to his skill screen and checked the newest available skill.

[Skill: Valley Dweller]

[Description: You have adapted to life in the valley.] 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

[Effects: 5% increase to all parameters when user is in a valley.]

[Cost: 2 SP]

’Whoa! I actually got a useful skill?! I thought it would be something trivial like butchery mastery or taste buds alteration.’

A smile crept up Drai’s face as he reread the skill.

’Percentage increases are always good since they scale with my stats. Too bad it only applies when I’m in a valley... Huh, wait... Shouldn’t I be able to adapt to many locations if I spend some time living in all the different biomes here?’

Drai pondered briefly before shaking his head.

’It’s not guaranteed that I’ll get similar skills—maybe it’s only available by chance. And it’s not like I can force Max to relocate his base just to test my theory. Hmm... I think I’ll wait until I get stronger, then I’ll try living by myself in another location for a few months, maybe in that jungle.’

Drai returned to his screen and immediately purchased Valley Dweller. He then thought about it for a few moments before deciding to get a few other skills too.

Seconds later, he had acquired Basic Magic Resistance, Ranged Fister, and Intimidation Aura.

Drai let out a sad smile as he looked at his remaining SP.

’And just like that, my SP is down to three points again... I think unless there’s an overpowered or really useful skill, I’ll refrain from getting any more skills until I receive my second class. I have a feeling there’ll be a really pricey skill after my next evolution.’

Drai closed the skill screen and checked out his stats.

[Name: Drai Varz]

[Class: Seed of Titan]

[Level: 7]

[Strength: 62.7]

[Constitution: 66.3]

[Agility: 21.8]

[Dexterity: 16.1]

[Intelligence: 16]

[Transcendence: 9.1]

[Skills:]

{Titan’s Fortitude} {Colossal Augmentation} {Lesser Titanic Physique} {Training Freak} {Bio Drain} {Basic Combat Sense} {Pain Tolerance} {Storm Formication} {Arachno-Sense} {Valley Dweller} {Basic Magic Resistance} {Ranged Fister} {Intimidation Aura}

[SP: 3]

Looking at the screen, Drai chuckled.

’My int is now almost higher than my dex. Is that why I don’t get confused as much nowadays? I also think I was able to understand things a lot quicker and better too. Heh, I wonder if my int is close to Christo’s.

’And this time my strength grew more than my constitution, which I think was a first. I feel like this had something to do with me taking Pain Tolerance. It really became harder to feel agonizing pain, so I guess the twenty-percent boost from Training Freak was also harder to trigger.’

Shaking his head regretfully, Drai finally closed the screen.

’It’s a shame, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Tsk. If not for those apes...’

Returning his gaze to the scenery below, Drai felt that his vision had become a bit clearer, but he wasn’t sure if it was just a feeling or because of his new skill.

’I’m still not too sure about Intimidation Aura, though. I hope it will somehow be useful here, but maybe it’s just a waste of SP.’

Shelving his thoughts, Drai stood up and stretched, ready to train again. Before leaving his spot, he glanced at the moon.

However, Drai realized that something wasn’t right.

"Why is it green?" Drai remarked as his gaze locked onto the full moon that was now tinted green.

At this moment, the scenery below turned lively. A muffled commotion echoed throughout the valley as creatures quietly emerged from their nests and burrows. Soon, countless shadows began to move.

The sudden change didn’t escape Drai’s notice. He inspected the commotion below, immediately realizing something from their movements.

’They’re all heading in the same direction...’

Turning his head, he saw that these creatures were heading in the direction of a gorge, which was located at the far end of the valley.

Drai waited for a few minutes until the horde became thinner, then he deftly made his way down and entered a crevice. Shortly after, Drai arrived at the base.

The embers in the fire pit were glowing, casting a dim light at the surroundings. And a gentle snore resounded across the cave.

’He’s asleep already?’

Drai scratched his head upon looking at Max’s figure that was tucked into his bed. He had intended to inform Max about the strange event outside, and perhaps they would investigate it together. But ever since Drai landed here, he had never woken Max up from his sleep, and he wasn’t keen to try it either—he feared that the man would react swiftly and lethally, especially considering his past experience with the killer parrot.

Pursing his lips, Drai turned around and left the cave. Soon, he stood by the crevice’s opening, observing the outside area.

Funky Valley’s inhabitants were still steadily advancing toward the direction of the gorge, but their numbers had dwindled significantly. Those passing in front of Drai didn’t look like a horde anymore.

Moments later, Drai finally stepped outside and looked at the moon—it still had a green hue. He then shifted his gaze to the massive horde in the distance that had begun to fade from view.

’...I’ll just take a quick look.’

In a blur, Drai left the cave entrance.
