Seed of Titan-Chapter 61: They Just Keep Getting Bigger
Booming footsteps was suddenly heard from beyond the wall.
Seconds later, the wall beside the gate opened once more, and menacing figure emerged a couple yards away from Natalia.
Natalia froze on her spot, staring at the looming stone golem before her.
Earlier when she was watching Jian’s fight from a distance, the golems didn’t seem too threatening. But now that she was standing so close to the 20 feet1 giant, her mind was filled with dread.
With a deafening hum, the golem moved its arm. Then it slammed its palm down toward the feeble trespasser.
Despite being stunned, Natalia’s reflexes kicked in as she leaped sideways. However, she was slightly too late to dodge the attack completely.
Natalia screamed in pain as the golem’s palm brushed her right leg before it slammed hard onto the ground where she was standing previously.
Boom!
The ground exploded and a cloud of dirt rose.
Realizing that it had missed, the golem straightened its body and turned toward its target.
Natalia was currently dragging herself on the ground a few yards away from the golem, trying to flee. She was gritting her teeth really hard and tears were streaming down her face, for she was enduring the horrible pain in her right leg that had been broken by the golem’s palm swipe.
As the golem’s heavy footsteps drew closer, Natalia’s desperation peaked. She clawed into the ground and dragged herself harder, vainfully trying to delay the golem’s arrival.
In just a few seconds, a large shadow loomed over her.
Natalia turned her head and saw that the golem was standing on top of her, ready to execute its target.
As the golem hummed, Natalia crossed her arms as a last attempt to shield herself from the impending strike. She knew this was but a futile effort, but she was unwilling to go out without fighting.
Right before the golem swung down, Natalia was suddenly thrown away to the side.
As Natalia hit the ground, she spotted Christo crouching below the golem. It was obvious that he had come and flung Natalia away, saving her.
"NOOO!!!" Natalia bellowed as the golem’s deadly fist fell onto Christo. In this split second, regret filled her mind as she recalled her past attitude toward Christo and how he would now die because of her.
Boom!
An ear-splitting explosion resounded, and Natalia’s head instantly dropped to the ground. She painfully sobbed, grief-stricken. Her getaway and broken leg didn’t matter anymore, for she had just caused the death of her friend—her savior.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from the nearby trees. Then a shadow flew by Natalia.
Natalia raised her tearful face. But upon witnessing the sight before her, she was greatly stunned.
Drai was there, running topless and barefooted with rags covering his underparts, heading toward the golem.
But what shocked Natalia the most wasn’t this, because in front of the golem, Christo was crouching and by the looks of it, unharmed.
"He’s not dead...?" Natalia mumbled in a daze.
Meanwhile, Christo eyed the incoming Drai smilingly.
"Took you long enough," he remarked as Drai leaped above him and slammed into the golem.
BOOM!
The golem crashed into the metal gates, creating a large opening as the gates crumpled to the sides.
The golem dropped to the ground inside the gate; its torso was cracked apart and the green light of its eyes died out. It then lied there unmoving.
Following this, the panel sounded once more.
[Critical failure detected. Heavy damage det—]
Before the robotic voice could finish its announcement, Drai had stabbed his hand through it.
"Is this okay, Christo?" Drai asked.
"Yeah. Maybe that will shut it down," Christo replied. He then walked toward Natalia who was still staring at him dazedly on the ground. Her face was looking like a mess.
"Don’t move. I’ll get Flo here," Christo said as he glanced at Natalia’s bruised leg.
"Ah, shiiit!" Natalia yelled as she finally woke up from her stupor, feeling the immense pain in her leg again.
Christo promptly pulled out a small medicine bottle from his satchel.
"Here, take this," he said, handing two tablets to Natalia.
"What’s this?"
"Painkillers."
Natalia immediately took the tablets and crunched them, hoping that it would reduce the time for them to take effect.
Meanwhile, Flo who was watching from her hideout felt a mixture of relief and joy due to Drai’s timely arrival.
"Drai’s here, Auri! He’s finally here!" Flo remarked as she excitedly shared the good news to her friend that was lying beside her.
But when Flo saw Auri, her face instantly sunken.
"Oh no!"
Flo immediately crouched down and examined Auri. After a few seconds, she raised her head with a look of horror and tears in her eyes.
"A-Auri’s dying... Auri’s dying!!!"
Flo’s abrupt wail startled the other members.
Christo immediately sprinted toward Flo while Natalia painfully watched as she couldn’t move freely.
Drai had also wanted to go to Flo, but before he could leave the gate, the destroyed panel buzzed.
[Zzz... Re... sing... Zzz... XG... one.]
Suddenly, the entire area trembled.
Instead of the wall, this time it was the ground that opened up.
Drai and his friends watched as a gargantuan figure surfaced from the ground. It was a tremendously large stone golem that was currently crouching on the rising platform.
A few seconds later, the platform stopped after it was parallel to the ground.
A terrifying rumble sounded from the golem as its eyes lit up. Then it slowly stood up, towering above Drai.
Natalia’s mouth was agape as she tilted her head back, staring at the hulking 30 feet1 tall golem.
Flo momentarily forgot about Auri as she was shaking in fear, her face pale.
Even the ever calm Christo was slightly trepidating right now. His right hand frantically rummaged his satchel in an attempt to find anything useful to get them out of this crisis.
"What a big guy!" Drai exclaimed, looking up at the golem that was more than five times his size.
"DRAI, RUN!!!" Natalia screamed. Even if Drai was way stronger than her, the previous golem had broken her leg just by brushing it, so she was sure this larger one would be absolutely devastating even for Drai’s standards.
Drai glanced at the panicking Natalia and chuckled.
"If it were before, I might’ve run away. But now? Hehehe..."
What followed shocked Drai’s friends to their core, as Drai’s body rapidly enlarged until it was slightly taller than the golem.
Upon seeing this, even Christo’s jaw dropped to the floor, totally flabbergasted, let alone Flo and Natalia.
Flo even thought that she was caught in psychosis due to some plant’s hallucination powder.
Even the golem seemed to be perplexed as it stood there unmoving. This was probably the first time it had ever encountered something that was bigger than itself.
"Hahaha! Size matters!" Drai gleefully shouted, not realizing that his thunderous voice was deafening his friends’ ears.
As if provoked, the golem also rumbled, launching a punch at Drai.
However, the golem’s fist was moving too slow for Drai that he felt he could even slip in two or three reps of pushups before dodging the attack.
But Drai didn’t dodge. He wanted to test out his newfound strength against an opponent of the same size. After all, he couldn’t easily destroy the giant tree earlier, leaving him unsure about his power level.
BOOM!
Christo and the others shielded themselves as a gale swept at them due to the tremendous power behind the golem’s attack.
Meanwhile, Drai was looking at the stone fist that he easily caught with one hand.
"Size matters, but stats also matters, huh? Despite our similar size, looks like we’re not on a level playing field, golem bro."
Unlike the golem that was sluggish due to its enormous size, Drai was relatively faster in his colossus form. This was because the augmentation didn’t only increase his height and mass, but also multiplied his stats, resulting in an unreal performance for something of his size.
Feeling satisfied of his power, Drai struck back.
Another ear-piercing explosion resounded through the area as Drai’s fist slammed into the golem’s face, knocking it back.
The golem’s back smashed into the cave wall, collapsing a large part of it.
"Be careful of the gate, Drai!" Christo shouted. He didn’t want their escape path to be blocked again just like during Drai’s fight with the large root when they first came here.
"Roger," Drai replied, taking notice of the gate near his feet.
He then ran forward and grabbed the golem’s legs that were sticking out of the wall.
"Off you go!" Drai shouted as he pulled out the golem and threw it away from the gate.
The golem crashed into the trees, flattening them. It then propped itself up with great difficulty.
However, before the golem could even stand up, Drai came diving from the sky with an elbow drop.
A booming explosion followed, then a large cloud of dirt rose.
Soon, the dust settled. Drai was standing above the golem that was missing the lower part of its body. Drai’s attack had shattered the golem’s lower torso.
"No wonder this skill was so expensive. It’s overpowered," Drai ruefully smiled.
Drai had been cursing his class every time he opened his skill page, losing count on the number of times he had stared at the figure "40" on the skill cost. But now he realized it was exactly as what the System had informed him after he evolved: the required SP was proportional to the skill’s effects.
While Drai was having these thoughts, the golem’s chest plates suddenly parted, and a green laser beam shot at Drai’s chest.
Drai who wasn’t paying attention couldn’t react at all, and he was startled by the laser that had singed his chest.
"Ouch! My nipple!"
Drai frantically blew on his left nipple that was currently a lot darker than his right one.
After the golem shot the laser, the light in its eyes died out. Perhaps it had used the last ounce of its power to launch the attack.
"Hey, golem bro! What do you have against my nipple!? Wait! Don’t die on me!"
Drai crouched on top of the golem and repeatedly slapped the golem’s face, seeking justice for his burnt nipple. But alas, the golem remained silent, lying there lifelessly.
