Seed of Titan-Chapter 99: To Ravi’s Mansion
Slightly paling, Smith quickly replied, "No, Professor. I had been consulting with Professor Paul about my term assignment since this evening, and we both didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary."
Samara nodded and didn’t press further. She could see that the poor boy’s face had become wary, probably because of Drai’s horrifying story.
"So this boy Christo had a powerful servant like that, huh? I wonder why the academy allowed this. I haven’t heard of a single case where a servant accompanied a student here in my entire ten years as a professor," Paul suddenly remarked.
’Oh shit!’ Drai frantically thought, his expression turning awkward. When he was informing the professors about the attack, he had altered the part where he easily defeated some of the intruders, making it sound like Liam was the sole reason why the first-years had evaded capture. After all, the two professors would certainly question him if they knew Drai could overpower a second-stager with ease.
But what Drai failed to realize was the possibility that Liam was guarding Christo secretly without the academy’s permission, especially considering Christo’s background that was shrouded in mystery. And since Drai really didn’t know the truth about Liam’s presence here, he decided to keep his mouth shut, hoping that the professors wouldn’t linger on the matter.
"What’s this boy’s background that he can even have such a strong servant? From your description, he sounds like a fourth-stager at the least," Samara inquired, seemingly intrigued.
"Uh... I don’t know Christo that well, Professor. Sorry..." Drai replied, putting on an act while scratching his head helplessly.
"Hmm... Anyway, you haven’t told us why you entered here. Why not stick with your friend and his servant?" Samara questioned again.
Drai hesitated. He had intentionally left out the matter regarding Ravi since he feared that he would be subjected to interrogation after the incident was over. He did obtain the information from Donk as part of their deal, but he couldn’t help but worry that the academy would end up suspecting him because of this.
If the professors went on their way and left Drai to his own after they were done with him, he would probably get away with hiding this piece of information. But since Samara was questioning him about it, Drai had to either tell the truth or make up an excuse. And being stared at by three pairs of eyes would only worsen Drai’s acting ability.
Inwardly sighing, Drai decided to tell the truth. He proceeded to tell the professors about the codenames and the mission related to them. He also told them how he inferred that Ravi was involved since he was referred to as the "Anomaly".
But Drai kept the part about his deal with Donk to himself while pretending that Donk’s information dump was an explanatory mockery—just like what villains often did in movies, which inevitably allowed their respective protagonists to escape or counterattack.
There wasn’t much reason for him to hide this, but even someone as dense as Drai still knew that making deals with criminals was frowned upon by the public. And regardless of how carefree he was, he didn’t want to become a public enemy, especially in the academy where he still had to live for at least another three or so years.
After Drai had finished explaining the matter, Samara furrowed her eyebrows and pondered over Drai’s words, while Paul’s face turned grim.
"Then what are you waiting for? Let’s go to Professor Ravi’s place," Paul urged.
Samara, on the other hand, wasn’t as impatient. She turned to Paul and asked, "Do you know how strong Professor Ravi is?"
"Not really. He mostly stays in his own residence and I’ve never heard of him exhibiting his powers. But I don’t think he’s too strong since his class looks more like a research type rather than a combat one," Paul replied.
"I don’t know either," Samara remarked. "But the thing is, if Drai’s suspicion is true, then the captor assigned to this mission should be stronger than Professor Ravi by a wide margin unless they come in a group. And if Professor Ravi is stronger than us, then we won’t stand a chance in a direct confrontation."
Paul frowned, seemingly irked by Samara’s words.
"So what? Are you saying we should abandon the professor? If you’re afraid, you can stay here. But I, for one, won’t cower in fear when my colleague is at risk of being kidnapped, especially when the colleague is the esteemed Professor Ravi who has dedicated decades of his life for our academy."
Listening to Paul, Samara inwardly remarked, ’Who are you kidding? Dedication? Come on dude, have you been living under a rock? Have you never heard the Finance staff complain about Ravi’s relentless proposals for additional research funds? Not to mention, the guy hardly ever taught classes or recommended students...’
"And here I thought combat professors would be confident in their fighting ability..." Paul mumbled sarcastically.
"You know what?! Fine! Let’s go there!" Samara snapped. She immediately walked forward a few steps before stopping, side-eyeing the rest of the group.
"Are you coming or not?!" she asked in annoyance.
Drai and Smith scurried in haste, following the steps of their professor who was having a fit.
Meanwhile, Paul followed closely behind the two students. Drai glanced at Paul and saw that the large man was looking at him with a smirk. He then saw the professor give a thumbs-up before throwing him a playful wink.
Drai chuckled silently, making sure that Samara couldn’t hear him. He was sure that if he even let out so much as a snort, his Combat 1 professor would immediately lash at him.
’Looks like Professor Paul could sense my uneasiness. Thankfully, he got my back, or else Professor Samara might’ve stopped me from going there out of concern for my safety,’ Drai thought.
With the two professors accompanying him, Drai felt a lot less wary. He remained alert, but he didn’t feel the need to push his senses to their limits, since he believed the professors would notice an enemy faster than he could—at least when he was in his original form.
Around ten minutes later, the group finally spotted Ravi’s large mansion at a distance. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Drai squinted his eyes and listened closely, but he couldn’t see anyone near the residence or hear any racket.
Still leading the group, Samara suddenly raised her fist, signaling the others to stop.
"Let’s get off the main path to be safe," she quietly instructed before leaping to the side, disappearing into the nearby trees.
