Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love-Chapter 415 - 428: Bedroom Window
It’s normal for kids to have minor colds, so Su Xingyu didn’t take it to heart.
She returned to her and Han’s bedroom, looked at the little guy sleeping soundly in the quilt, kissed his forehead, then went to wash up and lay down with the little one to sleep.
However, she suddenly woke up in the middle of the night.
She didn’t know why, and subconsciously reached out to touch the child’s forehead beside her.
The little Han beside her was already sleeping deeply and quietly, but his forehead was frighteningly hot to the touch.
Su Xingyu was startled and quickly got up to call Mrs. Gui: "The child has a fever." She also called the family doctor, and a flurry of chaos ensued.
Mrs. Gui took a towel to place on the child’s forehead, looking at Su Xingyu, who was waiting by the bed for the family doctor, and said: "Madam, should we call the master to take a look?"
Su Xingyu hesitated, actually forgetting there was another man in the house, then she said, "No need."
Mrs. Gui wanted to persuade her not to be stubborn, but by looking at Su Xingyu’s expression, she understood that she had completely forgotten about Lu Shifeng. How could a woman alone with a child be so easy? When in need of support, one should rely on others. However, Mrs. Gui didn’t persuade further, knowing that little Han wasn’t the master’s biological child, and that the master had already been busy all day with matters concerning little Jue. Also, there were tasks in the company awaiting him the next day, and the master himself hadn’t looked well these days; Mrs. Gui noticed he didn’t seem well, so who knew if it was appropriate to wake him at this time?
It could only be hard on the madam and the servants.
Thinking this way, Mrs. Gui did not insist on waking up Lu Shifeng.
The two women waited by Han’s bed for a while until the family doctor hurriedly came in with a medical kit, bringing a chill into the room.
Su Xingyu quickly stood up and said: "You’re here, quickly check how Han is doing. I woke in the middle of the night to find him with a fever, even talking nonsense."
The family doctor said: "Madam, don’t worry, children often have fevers." While speaking, he efficiently examined the child, gave him an antipyretic injection, and prescribed medicine.
The child’s breathing gradually calmed, the unnatural flush on his face receded, and he stopped talking nonsense.
Only then did Su Xingyu breathe a little easier, sending the family doctor downstairs with Mrs. Gui.
Su Xingyu asked him: "How did the child suddenly get a fever? Doctor, from a medical perspective, what happened this time? Is it weakness or a cold?"
"Little Han’s constitution is quite good," the family doctor paused with his medical kit and told Su Xingyu, "This time it’s just a cold, maybe because children like to play. If he hadn’t been cold for too long, it wouldn’t have been so severe. Usually, you don’t need to watch him too closely, just make sure he doesn’t stay in cold drafts for long."
A long time in cold drafts?
Su Xingyu glanced at Mrs. Gui, her expression full of inquiry.
Mrs. Gui was also puzzled and said to Su Xingyu: "Madam, when you weren’t home yesterday, though little Han played in the garden for a while, he didn’t play for long, and I made sure he was warmly dressed. By all accounts, he shouldn’t have caught a cold." As she spoke, Mrs. Gui suddenly exclaimed, "Ah," and stopped.
Su Xingyu quickly asked her: "What’s wrong, did you remember something?"
Mrs. Gui hesitated, glanced at her, then decided to say: "Madam, yesterday morning, when I went to tidy up your bedroom, I found the window open."
Yesterday morning?
Last night, she and Lu Shifeng were at the hospital all night; only Han was in the bedroom on this side of the villa.
Normally, she slept on the outside, Han on the inside. Even if a window was accidentally left slightly open, she could block the wind with her body. But last night, she wasn’t by Han’s side and forgot to close the window. Was that why Han caught a cold?
"I was so careless." She blamed herself.
Mrs. Gui said: "Little Han’s sleeping posture is also problematic, perhaps he kicked off the blanket, half his body was exposed. It’s also because he has a good constitution that the cold from yesterday didn’t show up, only causing a few sneezes, which I dismissed as minor. Had I known, I would have asked the doctor to check yesterday." Mrs. Gui was very remorseful.
Actually, both of them didn’t know that last night it wasn’t Su Xingyu forgetting to close the window at all.
The bedroom window was opened in the middle of the night by someone.
The person who opened the window was Zhuang Heng’s older brother, Zhuang Songwei.
He acted on Zhuang Heng’s instructions, intending to harm the child. Creating a sudden fever was a perfect plan. But he underestimated the Lu Family’s security. Despite having lots of information from Zhuang Heng and being very careful not to be discovered, just as he opened the window and pulled back a bit of the child’s blanket, he almost got caught by the night-duty servants.
Zhuang Songwei hurriedly escaped.
Leaving behind a half-open window and Han, who was half-covered with a blanket.
Although Zhuang Heng silently cursed his brother for being incompetent that night, in reality, Zhuang Songwei wasn’t as foolish as Zhuang Heng thought. He did manage to do something that made the child catch a cold.
But perhaps all of this is only known by the heavens.
Su Xingyu and Mrs. Gui believed it was their oversight that led to the child’s condition, and after sending off the family doctor, they took extra care in looking after the child.
Su Xingyu stayed awake for most of the night by the child’s bed, while Mrs. Gui, though she intended to stay awake, was firmly sent to rest by Su Xingyu.
But in reality, Mrs. Gui didn’t sleep soundly either, getting up at dawn to cook porridge for Lu Shifeng and cautiously inform him about Han’s fever last night.
Lu Shifeng was originally sitting in the dining room drinking porridge. Upon hearing this, he placed the fine porcelain bowl down and looked at Mrs. Gui: "Why didn’t you call me last night?"
Mrs. Gui lowered her eyes and said: "The madam didn’t want to disturb your rest and didn’t let me."
Lu Shifeng felt irritable. Afraid of disturbing his rest? He couldn’t believe that Su Xingyu, with her cold attitude, would have such good intentions.
He got up, ignoring breakfast, and strode towards Su Xingyu and Han’s room.
He pushed open the door and saw a soft big bed. In the morning’s hazy light, a cute child with baby fat was sleeping soundly. The child seemed to have mostly recovered from the fever, his cheeks a healthy, pinkish color. His sleeping face was peaceful, with even little bubbles forming at his small mouth. And by his bed, half-sitting and half-lying was Su Xingyu. Even just looking at her posture, it was clear she didn’t sleep well.
Lu Shifeng frowned slightly, then took big strides forward and carried Su Xingyu in his arms.
