Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love-Chapter 431 - 444: Not Your Own Flesh and Blood Anyway
Perhaps their sincerity moved the heavens.
As she entered a small grove, Su Xingyu suddenly heard a child’s weak, soft voice—
"Mom..."
"Han!"
Su Xingyu quickly turned her head and saw a chubby little boy standing under a small tree, waddling toward her—it was her beloved Han!
"Han!"
"Mom!"
"Young master!"
Su Xingyu rushed forward, grabbing the child in a tight embrace, while the child clung to her leg, trembling slightly, whether from cold or excitement.
Squatting down, Su Xingyu checked the child from head to toe, asking, "Han, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"
The child shook his head and said, "I’m not hurt, Mom, but... sob... sob... Jue is missing... sob... sob..." He started crying as he spoke.
The relief Su Xingyu had just felt quickly vanished as her worry returned. Although Jue wasn’t her biological child, her concern for him was no less than for Han. She hurriedly asked Han, "How do you know Jue is missing? When was the last time you saw him, and where?"
Han, crying, said, "I was playing with Jue in the game room, and it’s all my fault. I ran over to another group of kids to look at the toy train, and when I turned back, I couldn’t find Jue! Sob... I... I don’t know where Jue went. I feel... I feel like he went in that direction." The child pointed with his chubby little hand toward the bottom of the mountain, "So, I walked that way to find him, but I got lost and couldn’t find him... sob... sob..."
Hearing this, Su Xingyu felt both amused and anxious: "You felt he went downhill, so why did you run into the woods up the mountain?"
"Sob... sob... I didn’t know how to go down..." Han cried even harder, "I only know he went in that direction, very far, but I can’t get down... sob... sob..."
Su Xingyu hugged him with heartache and asked, "How do you know Jue went in that direction?"
"I just know... sob... sob..." Han cried his heart out, "Mom, can we go find Jue? Will brother Jue not want us anymore..."
Seeing that no more information was coming from Han, Su Xingyu recalled that this wasn’t the first time Han mysteriously found Jue, like that time in the hospital after she returned to the country. She wondered if Han had a sixth sense about this. She decided to trust Han’s instincts and consider going in the direction he pointed out to look for Jue.
She told Han, "Don’t worry, sweetie, I’ll find Jue. Just come back with us first."
Han obediently nodded, still sobbing.
The driver beside them offered, "Ma’am, shall I carry the young master?"
With the road slippery and the child being small, he had been in the rain for so long it was uncertain if he was unwell. All Su Xingyu could think about was getting him to a doctor as quickly as possible and continuing the search for Jue, so she didn’t oppose the driver’s suggestion. She led the way, with the driver following closely behind, carrying Han as the two adults struggled back step by step.
Finally returning to the kindergarten, Su Xingyu’s clothes were drenched, and her outfit had been torn in several places by branches and thorns, leaving her with multiple bleeding wounds.
But she didn’t notice. She handed Han over to the driver and teacher for care and set out to find Jue.
The teacher informed her, "Mrs. Lu, Mr. Lu had checked the security camera footage earlier and found that Jue got into a black private car. He’s sending people to investigate the vehicles that came here to pick up children today. He believes there will be news soon. You should rest a little and drink some ginger tea to prevent getting sick."
Su Xingyu had no mind for rest.
She asked, "Where’s Lu Shifeng?"
"Mr. Lu is still in the monitoring room making calls." The kindergarten’s communication system was originally excellent, but the rare torrential storm had caused a nearby landslide and mudslide, damaging the communication lines. The landline phones at the kindergarten could not connect, and the mobile signals were intermittent. Getting any message out to the outside world took a long time, and Lu Shifeng was in the monitoring room constantly giving orders.
Disregarding rest, Su Xingyu hurried to the monitoring room.
As expected, Lu Shifeng was inside, speaking coldly on the phone, "Highway 813... Yes, Highway 813! 813! The road is blocked? Didn’t see a black private car? Check again for me!"
The signal was poor, and he repeated himself loudly several times before the person on the other end understood.
He hung up the phone, turned, and saw Su Xingyu, his face changing to concern upon seeing her drenched and blood-streaked appearance: "Xingyu, you’re hurt?"
He took a big stride forward to check her wounds.
She stopped him abruptly: "Have they found Jue?"
Lu Shifeng said, "Still searching." Then with concern, he asked, "Where did you get hurt? Let me take you to the school nurse’s office!"
She brushed past him again, her voice tinged with anger: "How can you think of these small injuries at a time like this? They’re just a few scratches from branches; they won’t kill me! You’ve had all this time and you still haven’t found Jue; what kind of father are you?" Her voice was filled with fury and contained the hint of tears.
Lu Shifeng’s hand froze in the air before slowly dropping down. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Her words hit him like bullets, reminding him he’d let her down—a failure in sending the children to this kindergarten and being unable to retrieve them promptly when things went wrong.
He didn’t want to defend himself, only reassured her: "Rest easy, even if it costs me my life, I will find both children."
"What good is your life to me?!" Her tearful voice was even more furious, "Even if you died, it wouldn’t bring Jue back! And what about Han? Have you thought about Han? You said you’d send people to rescue them, but what happened? I found Han and went down the mountain, but I never saw people you sent! I’ve been back so long and you haven’t even asked once about Han! Lu Shifeng, you’re worse than a beast!"
A woman’s anger disregards reason, and amidst the storm, her erratic accusations confused him.
What did she mean by sending people to rescue them?
He had no idea what she was talking about!
But that wasn’t the point. The point was: "Han is found?!" His heart swelled with joy, genuinely grateful to the heavens at this moment for sparing Han from further distress.
However, Su Xingyu retorted, "What does it matter to you if he’s found or not? He’s not your biological son, so you don’t feel for him anyway!" While speaking, tears began to slip down her cheeks, crying for Han’s grievances.
