Shattering Humanity-Chapter 391: Estimating An Erstwhile & Existing Enemy{Recap}
{6¼ Years Before Leviathan’s Invasion}
Daisuki: "Ahh...
Isn’t the fresh air great, Neph?"
Nephilim: "No..."
Daisuki: "I swear they really need more cleaning supplies in the commissary.
Our cell’s air is getting moldy, nevermind all those boogers you wipe on your sheets, haha!"
The future antagonist to Takamagahara stabs an empty soda can while his nose twitches in anger.
Nephilim: "How many times have I told you, ’War Villian’, to stop calling me that name like we’re partners.
The way I see it, with what you’ve done to be put in here and the difference in time we both have to serve, there’s no possibility of us ever becoming acquaintances, nevermind friends, Dice."
Daisuki: "Ohh, come on Neph."
Nephilim: "How many years again do you have left to serve?"
Daisuki: *sighs* "Why do you keep asking me the same thing every day, Neph?
I’ve already told you, I got a 300+ year sentence..."
He sticks his pick into the ground and holds up four fingers with his right hand and holds up an "0" with his left.
Daisuki: "...But I can get out in 40 years with good behavior, hehe."
Nephilim stabs a crumpled up burger wrapper and puts it in his trash collector. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Nephilim: "And there it is..."
Daisuki: "What?"
But before the red eyed vigilante can explain his comment...
Older Officer: "Well, well, well.
Lookie who we got here!"
Just from the familiar tone in his voice, Nephilim’s eyes widen but suddenly narrow in anger.
Older Officer: "I didn’t think I would ever see your ass again, Kid.
But I guess, sooner or later, every whore’s son ends up in prison."
Daisuki turns in confusion to look at the taunting officer.
Daisuki: "You must have me confused for someone else, Sir "
Older Officer: "Not you, maggot!"
Daisuki: "Oop...sorry?"
Without turning around, Nephilim talks to their new company.
Nephilim: "Who are you?"
The snickering officer pulls off his shades revealing he is the same officer who was partners with the man young Nephilim shot to death almost a decade and a half prior.
Older Officer: "What? You don’t remember me, Blood-Eyes?"
Nephilim’s nose twitches and he turns around to face the officer who clearly knows about his past.
Older Officer: "Well I’ll be damned.
It really is you! I never thought I’d actually see the day!"
Nephilim: "What do you want?"
The red eyed man in his mid 20s continues to pick up trash while moving further away, forcing Daisuki to tag along.
Officer: "Well at first, I wanted to check if you really were one of those cursed ’Blood-Eyes’.
That way, I could do this for my father..."
He quickly walks behind Nephilim and pushes him to the ground.
Daisuki: "Hey!"
The officer pulls out his Billie club and swings it, hitting Daisuki in the arm.
Daisuki: "Oww, damn it!"
The disgraced veteran backs off while the officer continues to abuse his power, standing over Nephilim on all fours.
The red eyes of the abused prison focuses solely on the sharp point of his trash picker.
Officer: "You know, I haven’t seen you since that day your mom killed my ol’ partner.
Boy, did she give us the run around, huh?
It wasn’t until we finally caught her by the borders of the city trying to flee."
He bends over closer to whisper into the hunched Nephilim’s ear.
Officer: "That night, all 10 of us who finally caught her, took turns with her, and put a bullet in your mom’s head after we all finished on her."
Nephilim’s fingers slowly dig into the dirt with anger.
Officer: "We all told the Chief she managed to escape, but me and the other deputies swore we would keep it a secret."
He kicks the defenseless prisoner in the ribs and Nephilim rolls over gasping for air.
Daisuki: "Hey sir, what are you-!"
The officer cocks back the club in a threatening way.
Officer: "Shut your God damn mouth, kid killer!"
Daisuki does as he’s told and backs off as the officer goes back to taunting the convicted felon.
Officer: "After beating your mother, we all agreed she would receive the most disgusting and humiliating way to go.
That is how the bitch served her punishment for killing our mentor.
We made sure of it."
Knowing the true story to the death of the officer, Nephilim’s hand grips his trash picker hard but then the officer’s foot stomps down on his wrist, making him let it go.
The power crazed man kneels down and puts a gun to the back of Nephilim’s head. The muzzle of the weapon hidden in the inmate’s black hair.
Officer: "Don’t you get any funny ideas, Blood-Eyes. I won’t hesitate to send you back to your dear Mum."
...
Daisuki: "Jeez, that guy sure is a jerk, huh Neph?
What the Hell was that all about and why does he call you ’Blood-Eyes’? I mean Yea, they’re red, but blood is a little darker, no?"
Nephilim’s eyes look at the dirty hand trying to help him up but instead he smacks it away and gets up himself.
Nephilim: "Don’t worry about it."
{4 Years Before Leviathan’s Invasion}
Cell Mate: "You’re up a little early today, aye, ’War Villain’?"
Daisuki finishes peeing, pulls his pants up and turns around with an upset look.
Nephilim, seven years younger, is his cellmate. He’s laying on his back, one knee up with his hands behind his head. His jet black hair is shorter and both red eyes wide open staring at the cement ceiling.
Daisuki walks back to the bunk bed.
Daisuki: "I told you to stop calling me that."
Nephilim: "The more I live in this world, the more I’ve realized, if you’re someone that fights to save, you’re a ’Hero’ and if you’re someone who kills the innocent, you’re a ’Villain’. That’s why you’re here."
Daisuki sits back down on his bottom bunk. He talks to his cell mate while looking at the ground and his torn prison slippers.
Daisuki: "You’ve killed too, Nephilim. Killing is killing. That’s why YOU’RE here with me."
Without blinking Nephilim still looking at the ceiling explains himself.
Nephilim: "You’ve killed civilians, Dice. Mothers, fathers, kids, grandparents and, congrats, two terrorists. I am here because I killed the governor’s son AFTER catching him raping a kid. Both our freedoms were taken, but for completely different reasons and results, I removed a scumbag from existence, YOU removed two scumbags, but ruined innocent families to do it."
Daisuki(chuckles): "You say different results, but we’ve both been here in prison together for the past 4 years. Debating and fighting each other’s morals and views since Day One."
Nephilim finally closes his eyes with a smile.
Nephilim: "Once again, you thought you had a point, Dice. I get out today and you’re here for, what was it? 200? 250 more years?"
Daisuki lets out a long sigh, picks his nose and wipes it on Nephilim’s bed above him.
Daisuki: "You ask me every day Neph, I assume to try to get in my head, but I’m not gonna let you ride into the sunset with a win. I’ll get out in 40 years with good behavior and when we meet up again, when we’re old and wrinkled. When that happens, let’s try not to one up each other. Let’s just enjoy the rest of the life we got left, together, as Buds."
Nephilim rolls his eyes and hops down from the top bunk, he looks down at the man sitting on the bottom bunk. Without any alien eyes, the two humans lock eyes.
Nephilim: "That’s another thing that drives me to just despise you, Dice. You think you’ve changed because of your regrets, but you’ve done nothing to atone for those sins. You’ve been sitting here trying to buddy-buddy me and the rest of the filth that resides here.
I have no regrets and I have no sins.
I’ve killed only those who deserve to die for being the direct cause of negativity they’ve brought on to others.
You thought you could just sit in a cement room for the rest of your able bodied life and call that repentance?"
...
Nephilim: "Have you even written a letter of apology? Even if you never publicly read it, the first step to repentance is accepting you lost your way."
...
Nephilim: "Actually, Dice, I hope you do get your freedom back one day. So you’ll be a witness to the world I’ve created, the paradise I rule over, and the justice I have been entrusted in. A world where sins will be atoned for, as soon as the guilty even THINK of committing their atrocious acts. Those who have wronged the innocent will understand true disparity and the inability to control their happiness.
To live, with no possibility of happiness, can’t even be considered living."
The officer gives the two cellmates a chuckle and puts his two cents into the conversation while cuffing Nephilim’s second wrist.
Officer: "Sorry to break it to both of you ’dreamers’, but you’ll never have the power to change the world as it is. You two are forever going to be seen as convicted felons and nobody in their right minds will follow you to make any word of what you said come true, you psycho."
...
Nephilim: "For the innocent, I’ll be the one to push you into Hell, Dice."
...
Nephilim: "No matter how much good you do after this alien dragon apocalypse started Dice, it will never erase what you did before it. But I guess this new sentencing is more than just poetic irony. Well students, I work directly underneath the 3 ’Sisters" that own and control the society within those mountains. You can imagine anyone who works directly for the richest of a functioning society, can expect proper compensation in return for completed assignments. Depending on the importance of the task, the more beneficial to the worker, such as myself.(He looks at Itsuka) Sometimes it’s not a task that needs to be completed, but a rare item that someone desperately needs to have in their life to give it meaning or happiness. People like those out of touch business clowns, don’t think beyond the power of money and how to control and gain with it."
Itsuka gives him an angry glare.
Itsuka: "I’ve told those greaseball ’Sisters’ they were only as safe as much as they could buy safety. We think the same way but you continue to work for them. Why?"
He smirks at the beautiful light skinned woman.
Nephilim: "Because, unlike you my dear, when I see an opportunity, I snatch it. Since their bank accounts are essentially infinite WITHIN those mountains, I just have to play those self entitled shitheads like a fiddle..."
He holds up one of the papers and it is Daisuki’s old mugshot from his convict days.
Underneath his picture in big red and black lettering:
WANTED TERRORIST.
Mina Daisuki
Dead OR ’Their Eye’
$1,000,000 Reward
Nephilim: "....and ’invest in some stock’ of this little group of orphans you’ve seemed to assemble here Dice."
