Chapter 386: Chapter 396 Collapse, Despair

She, Sheng Ning, certainly wasn’t so fortunate as to be the Su Family’s granddaughter. In her past life, like a fool, she had imagined countless times that she could become the Su family’s granddaughter. But that was, after all, just fantasy, a dream. In the face of brutal reality, she was fragile, pitiable, pathetic, shameful...

Her once-calmed emotions were again stirred into towering waves by thoughts of the past.

The pain from her previous life had long since been etched into her soul, into her blood. It was fine if untouched, but the moment it was stirred, she couldn’t control her urge to erupt, to break down...

In a panic, she grabbed Chen Huaying’s hand, gripping it tightly. She sought to draw strength and courage from her.

Behind Sheng Ning, Chen Huaying glared at Meng Ping, absolutely furious. This shameless, despicable jerk. Sheng Ning had clearly wanted to take her hand, but this jerk had slyly prevented her, offering his own hand to Sheng Ning instead.

Goddamn bastard, she had never seen anyone more shameless than Meng Ping.

"That’s right!" Mr. Su stubbornly shook his head, pointing at the portrait on the wall. "You see, if there weren’t a blood relationship, how could they look so alike?"

Those who came in later were at first stunned by Mr. Su and the peculiar atmosphere in the living room, not at all noticing the additional portrait on the wall.

When they looked up and saw the person in the painting, even Hai Lan was so surprised that she covered her mouth.

Meng Ping looked at Sheng Ning, a glint of excitement flashing in his eyes.

Sheng Ning looked up, and the imposing force of the huge portrait struck her eyes, her heart.

Her body shook uncontrollably, and Meng Ping promptly supported her from behind, wrapping her halfway into his arms. His handsome face showed cautious tension and anticipation.

Sheng Ning looked back blankly, realizing the handsome face was so close and that she had grabbed the wrong hand, she promptly pushed Meng Ping away without mercy.

"Get away," she said with a disgusted frown.

Despite his usual flippant expression, Meng Ping felt as if he had been stabbed in the heart, bleeding profusely.

"What’s the meaning of this painting?" Sheng Ning’s voice was incredibly calm, as she stood there with pride and an unyielding spirit.

The admiration in Su Huai’an’s eyes was undisguised; having such an exceptional sister was something even he would take pride in.

"It’s my grandmother!" he replied.

"So what?" Sheng Ning asked indifferently, "What are you trying to tell me?"

"You are my granddaughter," Mr. Su declared firmly, unable to tolerate his granddaughter’s indifferent attitude toward him.

"Impossible!"

"How is it impossible? If I say it is, then it surely is." A voice in Mr. Su’s heart had always told him that Ningning was his granddaughter, and now the bracelet was the best proof.

"You look so much like your grandmother, and your bracelet, it’s your grandmother’s family heirloom."

Sheng Ning walked past everyone, step by step approaching the painting, close enough that a single reach would touch it.

She looked intently, her pupils suddenly contracting.

"Has this painting always been here?"

"Yes!" Su Huai’an explained, "This painting has been treasured ever since my grandmother passed away."

Sheng Ning wanted to roar, to shout, desperately wanted to cry... Why, why had it always been there? If it had always been there, then her past life was a joke...

"And the bracelet?" Her inner turmoil was a rampaging fire, yet her exterior remained calm, as if she were a millennia-old block of ice that would never melt.
