She Professed Herself The Pupil Of The Wiseman (WN)-Chapter 283: The Instructor (1)

The training area was located next to the main building, built to withstand a variety of practical spells. Mira had been there before, when Hinata showed her around while the magicians were training, so the first floor lobby there felt almost nostalgic to her.
They went further inside, reaching the area she had visited earlier. Many students were already there, but even with that, it was so large that there was ample space for more.
Contrary to Mira’s expectations, Creos made a sharp turn and started going upstairs.
「Where are we going?」
Mira was confused by the direction Creos was going, and he replied that summoners used the second training area.
He continued explaining that there were a total of five areas, Mira had only seen the main and biggest one, while the rest accommodated for more specific uses and space requirements.
This time, most of what they were doing involved physical training, and the second area was built to contain that.
「I knew this place was big, but that’s even more than I anticipated.」
There were also many other specialized rooms like a dining hall, locker rooms, showers, laundry rooms, sets of armor to borrow, and so on. It was like a big gym equipped with anything the students could ever need.
It also made sense for the continent’s best Spellcaster Academy to be equipped with such installations, and Mira looked around, nodding sagely while admiring how blessed the students there were.
But then something else caught her attention. She could hear strenuous grunts from the area ahead of them.
「Hmm…that voice…」
As Mira muttered hearing that, Creos said, 「It seems he’s here early as usual.」
The lesson was scheduled to start in half an hour, but the instructor usually arrived an hour earlier and would warm up in the training area. Then, Emilia added that he was a really passionate instructor who was a delight to learn from.
But Mira was more curious about that voice.
(Hmm…I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before…)
As Mira tried to remember who it reminded her of, Creos opened the door, and a gust of wind fanned from the swing of a sword escaped out into the corridor.
「Hello, thank you for being here again today.」
「Good afternoon.」
Creos and Emilia went ahead and entered the room. 「Oh, you’re early today,」 came the answer from the instructor.
That was definitely a voice Mira had heard before, and when she looked inside, he raised his voice saying, 「Oh, if it isn’t Mira too! It’s been a while!」
The instructor was wearing a military uniform and held a sword instead of a pair of axes, so he gave a different impression from before, but those words and the fact he knew Mira confirmed his identity.
「Arlon! It’s actually you!」
The person there was Arlon, an A-Rank adventurer who had also helped take down Chimera Clauzen. Mira was surprised to see him in such an unexpected place, but quickly went to greet him like old friends.
「Oh, you’re acquainted with Arlon, Mira?」
While Mira and Arlon were happy to see each other again, Creos was a bit surprised that they already knew each other, as he was not fully aware of his previous work experience.
「Yes, he’s one of the adventurers who was with me when we fought that Chimera group.」
As Mira explained how they knew each other, she also began to wonder how Arlon had ended up as an instructor.
The last time they had seen each other, he had claimed that he planned on retiring from being an adventurer once that job was done, as he still had something else he wanted to do while his body was in good shape.
Now she had found him again, as an instructor. Curious about it, she could not help but ask, 「So tell me, how come you’re here?」 going straight to the point.

「I mean, it’s nothing too complicated really.」
Arlon smiled as he replied, briefly explaining the chain of events that led to his current employment.
The thing he wanted to do after retiring was to train the new generation.
While he had been stationed at the Fifty Bells’ headquarters, many of the younger adventurers there would always ask him to train them. Eventually, that led him to feel like continuing doing that would be a pretty nice way to spend his latter years.
「I once casually mentioned a day we spent drinking together, and somehow word began to spread from there. Before I knew it, Uzume suddenly offered to introduce me to a nice place she knew.」
Thanks to that introduction, Arlon had ended up becoming the instructor for Arkite’s royal knights and soldiers. In short, Kagura, who was one of the Nine Wisemen, had gotten into contact with Solomon and recommended Arlon to him. Then Arlon immediately agreed to go to Arkite.
At the castle, he began sharing the knowledge and skills he had acquired over his years as an adventurer. This included optimal strategies for fighting monsters and other survival-focused tactics, which differed from the traditional training provided by the military.
Though he had never been part of the military but an adventurer for decades, the lessons he imparted were invaluable. Even Creos noted that soon after his arrival, the soldiers were able to dispatch monsters with much greater efficiency.
「I see. That does sound like something he’d do.」
It sounded like Solomon to hire someone who could both prove a valuable ally and improve the army so much. But more than that, Mira was simply happy to run into Arlon again.
「Thanks to that, I’m able to spend these days in a calm but also fulfilling way. I really can’t thank Uzume enough.」
Arlon smiled happily as he said that. It really was a mutually beneficial relationship, and Mira was also glad to see Arlon like that.
「Anyway, there’s still some time before the lesson starts and I could use some warming up. Could you bring out one of your Dark Knights for me to fight?」
The moment the conversation wrapped up, Arlon asked that with a defiant glint in his eyes, while taking off his coat. He also put down the sword he was holding, switching it out for his beloved twin axes he had stored in a bag nearby.
「Sure, sounds good. I’ll let you challenge anything you want!」
The biggest way to improve Armor Spirits was to let them gain experience fighting a more powerful foe, making Arlon the ideal choice as a sparring partner. So Mira instantly agreed and brought forth a summon.
「Huh? What’s…that?」
When it appeared, Emilia let out a confused voice as she looked at it.
Emilia had been unable to tell Mira was casting a spell from her demeanor, so she was surprised by how sudden it all was. And Emilia was even more shocked when she saw the summon itself, which was clearly far ahead than anything her classmates could use, or even instructor Hinata or the vice-elder Creos.
And there were even more things to be surprised about.
「Is that… Yes, I expected no less from you, Mira. I see you’ve kept improving your skills since the last time we saw each other.」
Arlon was ecstatic seeing the summon standing in front of him. It was neither a Dark Knight nor a Holy Knight, but a composite of both, an Ashen Knight, which excelled at both defense and offense, and was a perfect opponent for an A-Rank adventurer.
「Let’s get started then!」
Just looking at it was enough for Arlon to tell it was a powerful summon, so even though he said he just wanted to warm up, he rushed at it without holding back. The moment Arlon and the Ashen Knight’s weapons struck each other, a powerful shockwave made the whole room tremble.
「Ah…」
Emillia staggered on her feet as the pressure hit her, but her eyes were wide open, taking in that scene showcasing the upper bounds of what was possible for summoners.
「Every time I feel like I get closer, she runs off so far ahead that I can’t catch up.」
