Chapter 272: Chapter 272: You’re Pregnant?

The latter half of the drive was spent listening to He Ci’s lecture.

He Ci couldn’t comprehend her sudden romantic mindset and scolded her, saying she’d been blinded by Xie Qingci.

After the scolding, he began listing her current job, resources, and the difficulties of achieving her status, along with the potential career impacts of going public, leaving her feeling utterly chastised.

Once he vented completely, he immediately switched to a soothing approach, gently comforting her.

"I’m not against you two going public, but the groundwork has just begun; now isn’t a good time. Can you hold off? You need to consider your career, and he needs to consider his as well. Do you both really want to become a pair of oblivious lovebirds?"

She wiped her face and earnestly replied, "He, you’re truly the world’s most deserving and competent manager."

He Ci: "You’re too kind. No sneaking onto Weibo or surfing the internet recently. If you want to date, just stay home and behave.

Mei put on a shocked expression, "Is... is it what I think?"

Could He really be offering such a lenient condition just to keep them from going public?

He Ci: "No!"

Yu Xia: "Yes."

Mei looked left and right, ultimately trusting Yu Xia more in her heart.

"Then... I won’t be coming to disturb you guys for the next couple of days?"

She contemplated the peaceful days she might spend with Xie Qingci and shamelessly nodded, "Sounds good."

He Ci shouted angrily, "My main point was to stay put!"

Yu Xia put on an innocent face, "I’ll behave, He, don’t worry. Being in love, even reading a book can sweetly fill the day."

It wasn’t anything as outrageous as he imagined.

He Ci was skeptical, and as the car neared its destination, whatever trust he had left completely vanished.

"Xie Qingci would hang on you every day if he could, devour you even. Do you still have time to read? Are you going to read books on lips?"

Yu Xia turned a deaf ear, opened the car door, got out, and strolled home.

The house was quiet. She untied her hair and unzipped her jacket.

Those few days were particularly rough. The first thing she wanted to do upon returning home was soak in the bath and clean up thoroughly.

Just as she slipped on her slippers, the phone she’d just gotten back started buzzing. She bent over and picked it up.

"Hello?"

"I’ve ordered some takeout, will bring it over later," Xie Qingci’s voice, mixed with the echo of footsteps in the hallway, reached her ears.

She curled her toes and smiled, "Do you have to come over? The takeout alone would suffice."

Xie Qingci’s footsteps stopped, followed by the sound of a door opening. He said, "Looks like you’re not hungry. Why don’t we try if love fills you with satisfaction?"

"...Fine, fine, just bring the takeout over; I’m really hungry."

"Alright, take your time; no rush."

The call was still on, but he was quick enough that the sound of the shower could already be heard.

Yu Xia hurriedly hung up, covered her chest with her hands, and headed toward the bathroom.

After an hour of bathing, she emerged from the hot, steaming mist into the living room, just in time to hear Xie Qingci knocking on the door.

Her face was flushed from the steam, and when she opened the door, a gust of cold wind found its way in, making her shiver.

"How do you always time it so well? Have you installed some kind of tracker on me?"

Xie Qingci entered with the takeaway, saying, "It’s not as scary as you think. I called you every five minutes. If you didn’t answer, it meant you hadn’t finished bathing. After an hour, I just came over."

"Why not call?" She closed the door and asked as she walked over.

He wiped his hands with a wet tissue and then mischievously cupped her flushed cheek, gently pecking her other cheek.

"Because your bathing time is usually within an hour, haven’t you complained about your fingers wrinkling after soaking too long?"

Yu Xia swatted him away, rubbed her face, and glared at him.

"What is this bad habit? I’m not jelly."

"If you were jelly, that would be fine," he chuckled and lifted his chin, "Do you need to change clothes? Come out, and I’ll blow-dry your hair."

He seemed eager to try. Yu Xia couldn’t fathom his little quirk, so she slid into her bedroom wearing slippers and said as she went, "You’d better put the cooling dishes into the microwave for a bit; have they been here for a while?"

"Got it."

She picked up her phone, went into the closet that adjoined her bedroom, and found a set of loungewear to change into.

This outfit was one her sister-in-law bought, saying she saw it while shopping and thought it suited her perfectly.

She didn’t actually feel it suited her; the sky-blue outfit with cloud prints looked like something a high schooler would wear.

Although it was indeed comfortable.

With thoughts of her sister-in-law, she had just changed when a call from Yue Ling came through.

Needing to rewrap her hair, she put the phone on speaker and set it aside to answer.

"Xiaxia," Yue Ling’s gentle voice came through, "The show’s finished filming? You’re home, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, just about to eat."

"I’m planning to go for a check-up at the hospital tomorrow. Would you like to join me? This show’s over, so you should have a few days off, right?" Yue Ling inquired gently, with some peculiar noises seemingly in the background.

Yu Xia didn’t notice and readily agreed, "Sure, let’s go with my brother and Yu Yue too."

The strange noise grew louder, accompanied by Yue Ling’s light scolding. Finding it odd, she brought the phone closer to her ear.

"Sister-in-law, what are you doing? Is my brother there?"

Could it be what she thought?

Yue Ling said, "It’s your brother; he said he’s booked the check-up for tomorrow morning."

"Morning? Doesn’t the hospital we usually go to open at ten? Isn’t the afternoon just as good?"

"Your brother thought going early would mean less waiting."

She sensed something was off, "Is he okay? What’s there to wait for in the VIP lane?"

Why is her brother in such a rush for a check-up? Could it be...

"Sister-in-law, are you pregnant?!"

Has Yu Yue finally waited long enough for another who can help him bear the burdens?

In the kitchen, after transferring the dishes, Xie Qingci heard an excited shout from the room and leaned back to take a look.

Then he got up and walked over.

Yu Xia was too absorbed in the explosive news to notice him.

"Are you guys finally planning to have a little one?"

Yue Ling replied, amused, "No, it’s your brother... He suspects you’re pregnant."

Yu Xia’s expression morphed into confusion as she scratched her face, "Huh? What do you mean? I’m pregnant!?"

Standing at the door, Xie Qingci was frozen by this sentence.

His ears and brain directly converted this question into a statement.

She’s pregnant.

With such a big presence at the door, it was hard not to notice. While listening to Yue Ling explain the suspicion’s origin, Yu Xia glanced at him.

Seeing him clutching the doorframe in a daze, she scanned him up and down and asked,

"What’s up with you? Are you pregnant too?"
