Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 347: None Compare to What She Gives
Well, she’s been honest ever since her debut; she hasn’t broken any laws.
Yu Xia leaned back and gave the always wailing Mei a quick hug, then immediately released her.
As usual, Mei was excitedly talking about the friendly attitude online towards her and Xie Qingci, how their CP fans were this and that, how they performed on the show... Yu Xia was almost falling asleep listening.
Then He Ci yawned and told her, "You and Yu Zhi’s drama is about to air. The official announcement is tomorrow; remember to repost the crew’s Weibo post."
"Oh right," he added, "be polite, but it’s best not to interact too much with Yu Zhi on Weibo."
Mei wiggled her eyebrows, "You’re just overthinking, He."
He Ci nodded, "True, with a little vixen at home watching, I hardly need to remind you."
If she talked too much with Yu Zhi, wouldn’t Xie Qingci flip? He might even cry and run back to his family home.
Yu Xia was a bit speechless at the duo’s back-and-forth.
"Alright, I know what to do. But why is this drama airing so soon?"
"They just dropped it unexpectedly. The subject matter is exciting, the buzz is there, and there’s nothing really worth watching right now; if there’s something, air it."
He Ci stroked his chin, glanced at her subtly, and said, "Next month your show with Yu Zhi airs, the month after that, your show with Xie Qingci airs, and he’s not even the male lead in that one. Hmm, would the little brother mind?"
The tone sounded like that infamous "Green Tea" line: "Sister, sharing a room with you, your boyfriend won’t mind, right?"
She pulled a disdainful and speechless smile: "Stop, you’re giving me goosebumps. With so many dramas, why don’t you find yourself one to shoot?"
He Ci: "The broker industry can’t do without me. Otherwise, with my skills, I’d be an A-lister in no time, okay?"
She quickly retorted, "With that venomous mouth of yours? That would certainly make waves."
"...I’m too lazy to argue with someone whose IQ drops when they’re tangled with a male fox spirit."
She snorted, but didn’t deny the male fox spirit at home.
Before getting off the car, He Ci dutifully went over the schedule again and mentioned several additional things.
Like how he even knew it was Xie Qingci’s birthday month.
"I’ve got it memorized well, Xie Qingci’s birthday is 4.29, and his fans are already preparing the celebration. But I have to remind you, and you can remind him too: it’s best not to plan any public announcements on his birthday, and don’t post any strange photos that people might recognize, got it?"
Yu Xia tried to salvage Xie Qingci’s image, "Don’t think like that, our little brother is quite measured."
He Ci: "Measured as in he wished he could eat you up in the film set, passionately kissed you to the point of sparks flying at the doorstep, and catching dango with bare hands in front of the cameras?"
"..." She opened her mouth, "He just loves me too much; he can’t help it. The world’s most uncontrollable thing is sneezing and loving someone. How’s that a fault?"
He Ci: "So, what do you think I’m saying? I’m just telling you two not to get carried away!"
"...Okay, okay, I got it." Yu Xia dejectedly got off the car.
She really should have recorded her earnest explanation just now for Xie Qingci to hear, to show him how hard she worked to maintain his image.
For that alone, he should come over and serve her.
But unfortunately, Xie Qingci’s schedule was too full these days, with no time to rest, let alone spend a pleasant evening together.
He complained woefully over the phone, then detailed his entire schedule to her, down to the time, place, and accompanying staff.
Without her even asking, he disclosed it directly, subtly expressing that she could check on him anytime.
To show encouragement, she blew two kisses over the phone, then messaged him, praising him as "cute," saying she would certainly think of him at a set time every day.
As for daily video chats, perhaps they should skip that.
On another note.
Just after exiting the phone call and explaining his schedule, Xie Qingci pulled up his mask with a cool expression and boarded the plane to another province.
These days, his schedule was truly full, aside from his solo work, he had a stage rehearsal with the team.
That meant meeting Song Xi again.
He wasn’t talkative around others, and as soon as he boarded the plane, he closed his eyes to catch up on sleep. A few hours later, after landing, he got into a car and called Yu Xia to say he had gotten off the plane.
His manager, Mr. Yang, heard how clingy they were and felt exhausted but smiled at the thought that young people truly prioritize love.
Back in his day, he was just as clingy, and he didn’t have a bald spot yet. Alas, time flies.
"Qingci, once you arrive, don’t call Yu Xia immediately. There’ll be a lot of people, and you might be caught on camera. Some netizens can even read lips. Then they’ll just make things up about you."
Xie Qingci nodded, having just called her "sister" in a pitying tone, now had a cold face, seemingly unwilling to communicate with others more than necessary.
Mr. Yang couldn’t help but tease, "You only talk a lot in front of her. Yu Xia doesn’t seem like a talkative person either. I wonder how you two chat together."
"Not talking is nice too," he smiled slightly, "just being with her is nice."
Mr. Yang exchanged glances with the assistant beside him, rubbing the goosebumps on his arms.
Too cheesy.
Arriving at their destination, Xie Qingci had three hours to rest before starting to get styled.
He sat before the makeup mirror with his eyes closed as the stylist worked on his hair. During such times, he could be on his phone or rest.
He wanted to call or message Yu Xia, but with people watching behind him, he couldn’t.
He fiddled with his phone in irritation, turning it round and round, until the assistant returned with some fruit snacks, distributing them to others in the makeup room before handing him a box of green grapes.
"Thanks." He picked two and ate them, frowning as he swallowed.
A bit too sweet, completely different from the ones Yu Xia bought.
He left the rest on the table untouched and got the assistant to hand him a book he carried around.
A bookmark Yu Xia slipped in was between the pages he last read, from a few Sasa 90 roses, a kind of rose with a flower language meaning "I love you, passionate love," bought by her assistant and placed in a vase.
The fallen rose petal beside it was picked up and slipped into his book, the whole book now carrying its scent.
He didn’t touch the petal, and after finishing that page, he carefully turned it.
Then suddenly, he heard someone in the makeup room enthusiastically mention Yu Xia’s name.
"Hey, Yu Xia and Yu Zhi’s drama is about to air. I’m quite looking forward to it, having seen some leaks..."
The rest was unsaid as someone reminded her.
Everyone else lowered the volume while eating, with eyes discreetly glancing at Xie Qingci.
Xie Qingci’s expression remained cool as he closed the book and logged into Weibo on his phone.
Just then, Mr. Yang came over and, seeing the untouched grapes, casually asked, "Why didn’t you eat these?"
"Too sweet," he replied coolly.
The stylist behind him gave him a look full of sympathy and affection, as if saying, "You’re not fooling anyone."
