Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1100. Reunion
Chapter 1100. Reunion
One of Charles' offsprings, the Feathered Serpent, possessed no sense of vision. Instead, she used her tongue to collect odorant particles in the air to gather information about her surroundings.
In no time, the huge variety of odors that the serpent's tongue had gathered appeared in Charles' mind. The air was extremely cold up above; she tasted special molecules in the air as well as some tiny living beings, so she decided to hold her breath to avoid inhaling them.
Charles was aware of where the Feathered Serpent was at the time, as the eyeballs he had placed into the latter had failed at that moment.
The Feathered Serpent continued her ascent, and she encountered many things. The siblings that had gone up with her perished and mutated one by one until she was the only one remaining.
The higher she flew, the weaker gravity became.
In the end, she became capable of gliding for more than ten minutes with a single flap of her wings.
Compared to her siblings, the Feathered Serpent was lucky. She almost reached the upper limit of the map provided by the Foundation; she had gotten infinitely close to 002.
Before 002, the only thing she perceived was a spicy taste and a rusty odor that her tongue had picked up. The rusty odor was coming from her tongue—it was melting.
Just as she was about to descend, the Feathered Serpent felt a powerful gust of wind brushing across her skin. It felt like something enormous in the sky had made a move.
002 was moving.
This was the only valuable information that she managed to bring back to Charles.

Charles split open his belly, took out the brains inside, and placed them back into the heads of his offspring before waving his hand, dismissing her.
"Well, it seems that sealing off all senses is one way to approach It, but if I couldn't observe 002, how would I know what It is and Its current state?"
Charles was faced with a conundrum. He could safely approach 002 by sealing off his senses, but how could he observe 002 without his senses?
He sat in place, pondering over the conundrum for a while. Eventually, he decided to transmit that piece of information to his other selves before doing anything else.
There were quite a few of them, and each of them had their own task to deal with. His task was to monitor the Core with five other Charleses and share any valuable information related to it—that was their duty.
Upon establishing contact with the other Charleses, Charles discovered that two Charleses had disappeared, including the young Charles from Lily's plane. It was highly likely that he had already become another Edikth.
Charles wasn't surprised at all. During the previous meeting, the young Charles' strength had increased significantly, and it was probably because he had absorbed too much unnecessary knowledge.
"How much time do I have left?" Charles muttered to himself and made some calculations using his constantly expanding brain. In the proverbial blink of an eye, he found an answer. "1 month, 12 days, 4 hours, and 49 minutes.
"The fact that I have this much time has exceeded my expectations. I thought I only had a few days left at most," Charles remarked with some relief.
Just then, a cluster of tentacles covered in eyeballs with cross-shaped pupils manifested behind Charles and embraced him from behind.
Tentacles covered in mucus sprouted from Charles' fleshly body and patted the cluster of tentacles behind him. "Don't worry, Sparkle. I'm ready."
Sparkle remained silent, but Charles no longer needed sound as a medium to know someone else's thoughts.
"No, there's no need for you to skip your growth stages. You're my daughter, not my shadow. You ought to have your own life, and you ought to make your own choices rather than die with me."
"It's just like how human beings become more mature upon the death of their parents. I was once afraid of becoming a god, but I am no longer afraid of it, as I have no regrets and I have a clear conscience.
"I've decided to follow my heart, after all."
"Sparkle, you should also think about the meaning of your life once I've passed. Think about what you truly want to do from the bottom of your heart," Charles added.
Sparkle's enormous figure floated over and wrapped around Charles' fleshly body in a powerful embrace.
A brief silence ensued...
The father and daughter pair enjoyed the rare moment of peace.
"Daddy, I think Mommy made a mistake back then."
"What mistake did she make?"
"She made a mistake teaching me these human emotions. If I couldn't harbor these feelings, I wouldn't be so sad."
Upon hearing that, Charles thoughtfully replied, "I don't exactly agree with what you're hinting at, but if you really don't want to feel those emotions anymore, I can do something about them for you."
"No, there's no need. Besides, it's too late," Sparkle replied. Then, the indescribable cluster of tentacles covered in fluorescent eyeballs converged on one point, transforming into Sparkle's gorgeous figure.
A sofa rose from the ground behind them.
Sparkle grabbed Charles' hand, and the two sat on the sofa, silently gazing at the distant pitch-black sea.
Charles could sense Sparkle's grief, and he said, "If you're still worried about what is going to happen once you've truly grown up, then don't worry about it anymore.
"Before I'm gone, I'll alter your body and make sure that you'll live well."
Instead of responding, Sparkle buried her anguished face into Charles' chest and shook her head gently. She truly couldn't bear the fact that her father would soon no longer be by her side.
Even more unbearable was the fact that Sparkle couldn't do anything about it, as this was all Charles' decision.
The father and daughter pair soon fell silent, and they gazed at the desolate sea once again.
Just then, a white mouse glowing with a faint light streaked across the ink-black sea surface and made a beeline for them.
This mouse scurried to Charles, looking agitated and thrilled. The mouse climbed up to his thigh and eagerly looked up. Its whiskers trembled with emotion as it surprisingly spoke, saying, "Mr. Charles! I'm back! I've come back to help you!"
Charles quietly looked down at the energetic white mouse, and he couldn't help but recall his first meeting with Lily. Back then, she was as energetic as she was today.
Unfortunately, things had changed drastically compared to back then. He had changed a lot, but Lily's changes were even greater than his own.
Instead of continuing to face the mouse, Charles looked up at the darkness up above, saying, "Lily, you should know that such tricks are useless against me. I can easily see through your disguise."
As soon as his words fell, the mouse on Charles' leg dissipated into innumerable specks of light. Moments later, an enormous sun manifested in the sky, illuminating the sea and the nearby islands.
The enormous sun was none other than the true Lily.
"Mr. Charles, I'm back," Lily remarked, her voice sounding ethereal.
Charles frowned slightly and replied, "You shouldn't have come back. I even wasted a wish to make you human again and make you leave for your own plane for good."
"I can help." The enormous sun emitted a wave of radiant light.
"I don't need your help, Lily. I really don't. Go back. You're being more of a hindrance than a help."
Lily noticed that Charles' feelings toward her were a bit off. "Sparkle, what's going on with your daddy? I feel like there's something wrong with him."
Sparkle buried her face into Charles' chest before replying softly, "He has traded quite a few of his memories in exchange for some things."
