Chapter 78: Trial of the Primordial Hunt!

Way later that day, it was night-time, and the garden had long since became extremely quiet, the moon hanging in the sky like an eye watching over the world.

Damon stood near the exit to the garden terrace, with Artemis’ beautiful body nestled in his arms, her face pressed lightly against his firm chest.

"I still can’t believe she said that," Artemis grumbled, her cheeks still faintly pink as she thought of what your mother did.

Damon chuckled, brushing his fingers through her soft, silken hair. "She’s your mother. You should’ve expected something ridiculous."

Artemis pulled back just enough to meet his eyes, "You’ll survive her... right? I’ve heard of what mothers can do when their daughter meets a man."

Damon grinned, "I’ve faced Abyssal beasts and soul-ripping curses. I think I can handle one overprotective fox matriarch."

He leaned in and kissed her one last time, gentle, warm, and laced with promise.

"Get some rest," he whispered.

"You too," she replied, though her expression lingered in concern. She knew her mother better than most, and she knew her mother would be watching Damon in the coming months and years.

Still, she sighed, Damon was the best man she knew, so if he couldn’t pass the test, she knew no-one could. The duo split apart, heading to their own rooms.

Damon’s room was as lavish as expected of a Dragon Clan heir, walls laced with mana-veined stone, enchanted crystal lighting, a large bed surrounded by runes for protection and comfort. But for all the grandeur, Damon felt... watched.

He lay back on the bed, folding his hands behind his head. His thoughts turned to Talia, the sheer pressure she exuded, the divine grace that cloaked her. That was the level of power he wanted to reach at minimum.

With that, Damon went to sleep, planning to wake up tomorrow morning for an early training session.

~PAIN!~

An intense, overwhelming amount of pain slammed into Damon like a meteor. Heat, screams, roars of war everywhere.

Damon’s eyes shot open as he gasped, his body reacting on instinct. The sky above him was a turbulent maelstrom of red clouds and torn stars.

The ground beneath him was cracked obsidian, and rivers of molten lava etched glowing lines through a scarred wasteland.

~BOOM~BOOM~BOOM!~

Explosions thundered in the distance. Titans clashed in the horizon, beings of fire, steel, and cosmic rage. The air was thick with the stench of burning flesh and shattered mana.

"What the hell...?" Damon muttered, spinning around.

He wore his armor, battle-ready, thankfully. BloodReaper was already in his hand, pulsing like it knew danger was near. Ezreal, his World Spirit, did not respond, neither did Freya.

A group of humanoid warriors, wearing bronze and gold and all in the Forbidden Mage Realm, charged past him, shouting war cries in an Ancient Language.

Thankfully, Damon could understand it due to his previous Sign-In Rewards.

However, the warriors were immediately intercepted by an Abyssal abomination that dropped from the sky. It was massive, its flesh constantly regenerating, a dozen writhing mouths screaming in dissonance. It grabbed one soldier mid-leap and crushed him like a twig.

Its aura was ferocious, like a walking calamity despite only being in the same realm as Damon, the Forbidden Mage Realm.

Damon’s instincts kicked in and he vanished from his spot in a burst of speed, reappearing behind the creature and cleaving upward with a full-force swing of BloodReaper.

A black-red arc of chaos energy exploded from the strike, severing several of the beast’s limbs. But instead of falling, the monster hissed and reattached its limbs mid-air, its flesh warping into a new form.

Damon’s eyes widened. He never had to go all out against something of his realm before.

Until now.

He activated his Eyes of Oblivion, unlocking layered perception, seeing through reality itself. The Abyssal energy in this place was denser.

Corrupted yet intelligent. These weren’t mindless spawn. They knew how to fight. The beast lunged forward towards him.

Damon gritted his teeth and activated <World Ender>

Crimson and Draconic flames swirled around him. Horns curled from his head. His wings tore into existence with black lightning trailing off the tips. His aura erupted like a nuclear detonation, halting the Abyssal monster mid-charge.

The Abyssal beast hesitated for only half a second, just long enough to recognize the deadly shift in Damon’s aura.

Then it roared.

A sound that tore at the very threads of reality, a dissonant choir of pain and hunger that threatened to rip open Damon’s mind.

The battlefield around them cracked with shockwaves, the molten rivers nearby bubbling and trembling like they feared the coming storm.

Damon didn’t flinch however, in <World Ender> form, his Primordial Incubus Angelic Dragon blood boiled with power.

Black and crimson flames licked his skin, his wings spread wide, casting a shadow over the battlefield as his tail lashed the air behind him. His pupils narrowed into razor slits, burning with searing silver-red light.

"Let’s see how much you can regenerate," Damon growled.

He moved first.

~BOOM!~

His foot shattered the obsidian ground beneath him, launching him forward like a bullet. BloodReaper elongated into a glaive mid-flight, flames wrapping around its blade as Damon swung in a wide, brutal arc. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

The Abyssal beast raised one massive clawed limb in defense.

~CLANG!~

The impact sent shockwaves through the battlefield. The sheer force of Damon’s attack sent the beast skidding back dozens of meters, its claw severed at the wrist, the black blood sizzling like acid as it hit the ground.

But the monster laughed. Or rather, its dozen mouths opened in sync, producing a chilling mimicry of laughter that crawled up Damon’s spine.

The severed limb writhed, melting into smoke and reforming into hundreds of tendrils that shot toward him like vipers.

"Tch, this is ridiculous." Damon said, spinning around and conjuring a spatial ripple with a gesture of his hand.

Damon spun, conjuring a spatial ripple with a gesture of his clawed hand.

<Void Displacement>

Space bent and folded, and the tendrils missed entirely, slamming into the lava river and exploding with hissing fury.

Before he could follow up, the beast lunged low, far too low for its massive frame, and slammed its bulk into him.

"Guahhk!"

Damon felt his ribs creak as he was flung through three jagged stone spires. His back cracked against the fourth, dust and stone raining down over him. Pain lanced through his chest. The blow hurt.

"Okay, you’re dead." Damon muttered. BloodReaper morphed into twin scythes as he surged forward once more, wings flaring and talons crackling with space-imbued lightning.

He danced around the monster now, striking from impossible angles.

~CLANG~SLASH~BOOM!~

The battlefield lit up with explosions as spatial tears followed each of his attacks. He carved through the creature’s flesh again and again, but it just kept adapting. Each cut regenerated faster, sometimes even absorbing his elemental mana to harden.

"Then I’ll just have to take that advantage away," Damon growled.

His Eyes of Oblivion flared, and within seconds, he deciphered the creature’s regeneration pattern, it was drawing energy from the surrounding corrupted Mana veins under the battlefield.

"So that’s it." Damon muttered and raised his hand.

<Spatial Severance>

A glyph of silver-black lines drew itself into the air as Damon clenched his palm. Space around the monster’s feet ripped inwards. The Mana veins below it fractured, collapsing into a void sinkhole.

The beast let out a soundless scream, its regeneration halted for a split second, but that was long enough for Damon to continue his attacks.

Damon appeared mid-air, appearing above its hunched form. BloodReaper fused back into its greatsword form, pulsing with layered chaos and dragonfire.

"Chaos Breaker!"

He dove like a comet, slamming the sword down with all his force.

~BOOOOOM!~

The ground cratered under the strike. Mana shockwaves exploded outwards for miles, incinerating everything nearby. For a moment, everything was silent.

But the moment didn’t last.

From the smoke, a limb shot out, clawed and steaming with corruption. It slammed into Damon’s side, sending him spiraling into the ground.

He coughed, crimson dripping from the corner of his lips.

"Still alive, huh... bastard," he hissed, pulling himself up.

The beast now looked warped, half its body melted from his last blow, but the other half bulging, growing rapidly.

The Abyssal aura around it intensified. Its form twisted, growing a long centipede-like tail lined with spikes. Its mouths chanted in a strange Abyssal tongue, warping the very air with sound.

Suddenly, dozens of runes formed around its core. Damon’s Eyes of Oblivion narrowed.

"It’s self evolving?" Damon said, immediately realizing he had to end this before the beast evolved out of control.

The monster launched itself like a torpedo, spiked tendrils shooting ahead like harpoons. Damon barely dodged two but the third pierced into his side, drawing blood.

He grit his teeth and grabbed the tendril, channeling mana into it.

The tendril hissed and shriveled, and Damon yanked it forward, dragging the beast mid-lunge toward him.

"Shadow Grasp!"

Dozens of shadowy hands from his Shadow Soldiers erupted from Damon’s shadow, locking onto the creature’s limbs and torso, freezing it mid-air.

Damon followed up with a blink-step behind the immobilized beast.

"Elemental Convergence Blade Style: Heavenfall Blitz!"

Lightning, fire, space, darkness, chaos, wind and light, all surged into his blade, and with that, Damon slashed down.

~KRRRRRKSHHH!!!~

The creature’s body was cleaved in two, both halves frozen in midair for a second before crashing down, limp and unmoving.

Damon hovered in the air above the corpse, panting heavily.

Sweat clung to his brow, his wounds slowly regenerating.

But for the first time in a long time... he had bled, and he only had one thing to say about that.

"Where the FUCK am I?"

"You didn’t die. That’s already impressive," a calm voice echoed.

Damon turned his head, and behind him, golden light shimmered in the air, turning into Talia, floating like an Empress of War.

Damon scowled, "Where the hell am I?"

Talia descended slowly, her nine radiant tails flickering with cosmic energy.

"The Primordial Era."

"...You time-traveled me here? Or some chrono-illusion?" Damon asked.

She gave a vague smile, "Does it matter? Survive. That’s the only thing you need to worry about."

Damon’s jaw clenched, "Is this some kind of test?"

"It’s the test," she replied. "If you want to stand by Artemis, you need to be worthy. That means surviving a week here, where the weak were never born and the strong still die."

He glared at her, "You said Artemis was your only daughter. And yet you drop me into a deathfield."

"I am the Divine Huntress," she said coolly, "We don’t love weaklings. We don’t let them into our bloodline. I don’t care if you’re the Incubus Chaos Dragon or the child of Sovereigns themselves. You will survive this... or you will die and prove unworthy."

Damon exhaled slowly, controlling his rage.

"How long?"

Talia’s golden eyes gleamed.

"One week. I’ll return to fetch you by the seventh dawn. Until then, survive. Hunt. Learn. Or be devoured."

She turned away.

"Wait, did you get my parents involved in this?"

"They agreed," she said without turning, "Don’t bother reaching out to them. They won’t answer. Same with your World Spirits, they’re eating good with me."

With a flare of golden foxfire, she vanished, leaving behind a gust of wind and the faint sound of a bowstring humming with fate.

Damon stood in the silence.

His heartbeat slowed.

He was alone.

Truly alone.

And around him, the battlefield continued to rage, Abyssal armies clashing with ancient forces, titanic beasts rising from craters, it was chaos.

Damon growled and started moving, keeping low, scanning his surroundings.

Another Abyssal entity, this one sleek and scaled, like a centipede merged with a dragon, snapped into view. It let out a war-cry that cracked the ground.

Damon clenched BloodReaper, "Fine."

A smirk crept onto his lips.

"You want me to survive this? Then I’ll do more than that. I’ll thrive."

He shot forward like a meteor, crashing into the beast mid-roar, his chaos-draconic energy crackling with cosmic wrath.

But even as he fought, his eyes scanned the distance, searching.

Looking for something... anything resembling civilization.

So far, all he saw was war.
