Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 147: Needle Fur
Chapter 147: Needle Fur
The Iron Leopard’s attack came without warning. Its metallic fur suddenly bristled outward, and hundreds of needle-sharp projectiles launched from its body in all directions like a deadly rain.
Of the 3 spells that an Iron Leopardd spawned with, it had the worst one.
Jax reacted instantly, moving forward to present his body to the attack, while covering his head with his gauntlets. The fur needles struck him with tremendous force, hurting him a little, but his armor held. Most of the spray was blocked by his body and equipment, creating a protective barrier for the others behind him.
"Roman, help!" he shouted, feeling the impact of each needle against his armor. The attack was far stronger than he had anticipated. Without his protective gear, those projectiles would have been lethal.
Melayne and Ning had quickly positioned themselves in front of Roman and Lucille, their own armor providing some protection. However, both knew their equipment wasn’t strong enough to fully protect them from the iron fur assault. They were thankful for Jax’s shielding.
Roman immediately used his spell the moment he could. Soft golden light surrounding Jax, relieving him of any wounds and pain.
Jax turned around, his axe to his side and looked at the Iron Leopard.
"That’s incredibly powerful," Jax said, genuinely surprised by the intensity of the attack. He wondered if any more was coming, but the moment he saw its fur lower, he knew the barrage had ended.
Jax immediately charged the boss.
His Divine Threads spell activated, creating poisonous strands around the leopard. The greenish threads wrapped around the boss’s metallic body, attempting to bind it in place while the poison began its work.
He understood that the bos would likely break out of his threads if it tried to, so he made sure to only wrap its body and individual limbs. That way, it immediately began taking poison damage.
At the same time, Ning searched for the Leopard’s Critical spot, but he couldn’t see one yet. He turned toward Lucille and asked, "Any information yet?"
Lucille’s analysis spell had to have been used already, so there shouldn’t have been much time before it activated.
"I’ve got it!" she called out, her voice carrying both excitement and urgency. The spell had finally activated, providing her with crucial information about the boss. She began reading out the information verbatim.
"The boss has several spells, the main one is Needle Fur."
"Yeah, we kinda got that already," Melayne said. "What else does it have?"
She knew about its possible spells, but it didn’t always spawn with all of its spells.
"The others temporarily improve its speed, durability, and enhance its claw attacks with increased slashing damage. It also has a pouncing attack which you have to look out for, and a tail attack."
Even as she said that, the boss pounced on Jax, who stepped back at the last moment. Melayne jumped in, slashing her sword that left a train of fire in its path. It left a loud clunking sound when it connected, dealing some damage to the monster, but not a lot.
Lucille continued rapidly, knowing every second counted. "It’s resistant to bludgeoning and slashing attacks, as well as any spells with Metal or Earth elements. But it’s vulnerable to Water and Lightning elements!"
The information about potential loot flowed through her mind as well. When killed, it was guaranteed to drop five 1st Stage Emerald Stones and one Metal Emerald Stone. There’s also a chance for a sword, metal knuckles, a Metal Body spell, or a Needle Spray spell.
But, the team didn’t need that information at the moment, so he ignored it, focusing only on the vulnerabilities.
The moment Lucille learned about the water vulnerability, she had acted. She immediately summoned her Water Guardian, which she hadn’t activated until now in fear that it would be useless against a boss. If it ended up being useless against a boss, then it would just be a waste of a spell.
The Water Guardian had a long cooldown, and it also drained Navi for as long as it was active and fighting. Against regular beasts, that wouldn’t be a problem, but against Bosses, it would have to fight more than ever, which would easily drain more of her Navi.
She had hoped she wouldn’t need it from the start, but it seemed luck wasn’t on her side at all.
A few seconds later, a massive octopus materialized around her, its translucent blue form covering her completely. The creature’s eight water-formed limbs spread around, and immediately began attacking the Iron Leopard with jets of water.
The leopard wailed with some pain and anger each time the water jet hit its body. It was clearly doing something.
"It’s also vulnerable to lightning," Lucille thought to herself. And while she had a lightning bolt spell that could likely deal a large amount of damage, she couldn’t use that spell here.
Jax was doing his best to hold the creature in place, but his threads weren’t working as well as usual. The Iron Leopard’s strength was quite high, allowing it to tear through the threads and run away.
Jax had also tried Earth threads, but since the leopard was resistant to Earth elements, it seemed more than capable of breaking through those as well, despite their absurd weight and durability. So, Jax couldn’t keep the boss in place while Lucille charged her spell.
The poison threads were dealing damage, but slowly. Jax and Melayne’s regular axe attacks were having some effect, though not as much as they would have liked. The thing that was dealing most of the damage at that moment were the water jets, but the Leopard was learning to stay away and doge those as well.
"Damn it," Jax thought. The Leopard was perhaps the most straightforward of the bosses, they had fought until now, but it was strong in its own way. The thing that they needed the most here was spells that dealt damage, and none of them had that sort of spell.
The only one that did, Lucille, couldn’t use it.
