Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 103: Sleeping Apart Is a Major Taboo for a Married Couple
Downstairs in the dining room.
Serena Yardley kept her head down, eating, too embarrassed to look at the man sitting across from her.
Ethan Yardley, however, kept staring at her. Seeing how quickly she was eating, he reminded her,
"Slow down. Don’t choke."
He even thoughtfully ladled some soup and placed it in front of her.
Serena Yardley slurped her soup, her gaze unconsciously flicking toward him.
Noticing that he was still staring at her, she finally asked, "What are you looking at? Am I that pretty?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Yes. My Serena has always been beautiful."
He complimented her without reservation.
Serena Yardley was already a little vain, so a compliment like that from him sent her over the moon.
She tilted her head, trying to hide her shyness, when she suddenly saw the woman named Vivian Lynch in the living room, staring in their direction.
No!
To be more precise, she was staring at the man across from her.
Serena Yardley pretended not to notice. "How about you teach me how to drive this weekend?" she said as she continued to eat.
She had downloaded a driver’s license test app and had been diligently studying for the written exam recently.
The questions were pretty easy, though. Once you figured out the tricks, you could get a perfect score in a few days.
The hardest part was the actual driving.
"Okay."
Ethan Yardley agreed without hesitation.
After they finished eating, the two of them went to sit in the living room.
At her mother’s prompting, Vivian Lynch brought over a platter of fresh fruit, placed it on the coffee table, and said with a nod,
"Mr. Yardley, please enjoy."
Serena Yardley sat cross-legged next to Ethan Yardley, not saying a word.
Ethan Yardley picked up two cherries and held them to her lips before finally looking at the woman standing before them.
"There’s nothing else for you to do here, is there? You can go home. Just report directly to Yardley Manor for work tomorrow."
Vivian Lynch quietly raised her eyes to look at Ethan Yardley and said in a low voice,
"Actually, my mother’s lumbar spine problem is acting up again. She needs to go to the hospital for acupuncture, which might interfere with her work."
"So I’ll be staying to help her for a few days. I’ll go over after my mom is done with her acupuncture."
Hearing that Mrs. Miller was unwell, Serena Yardley asked with concern, "Is she okay? Is it serious?"
Vivian Lynch looked at Serena Yardley. "Thank you for your concern. My mom said she’ll be fine after a couple of days of acupuncture."
Serena Yardley said no more, amusing herself by rolling the cherries around in her mouth with great interest.
Ethan Yardley didn’t force Vivian Lynch to leave either. He waved a hand dismissively.
"You may go."
"Yes." After Vivian Lynch withdrew, she couldn’t help but look back at the man in the living room.
’That man is so charming.’
’If only I could be as lucky as Serena Yardley.’
Ethan Yardley retracted his gaze. He looked at the girl beside him, who had two cherries stuffed in her mouth, making her cheeks puff out. It was strangely cute.
He reached out and pinched her cheek. "Are you a child? Still playing with your food in your mouth."
Serena Yardley still wasn’t quite used to the man beside her touching her.
She dodged his hand and stood up.
"I’m going to study for my written exam."
Ethan Yardley sounded a bit helpless. "Can’t you study here next to me?"
"You’re too distracting."
With that, she scurried upstairs.
Ethan Yardley let her go, picking up the laptop from the coffee table to open his email and handle some business.
Seeing that only one of her employers was left in the living room, Vivian Lynch brewed some tea and brought it to him.
"Mr. Yardley, please have some tea."
She deliberately crouched down, carefully tilting her head up to look at his face.
Without looking up, Ethan Yardley said coldly,
"If your mother is unwell, then go take care of her. Just make sure the meals are prepared on time every day. You don’t need to do anything else."
"Also, don’t come upstairs from now on. If cleaning is needed, wait until we’ve both left the house before you do it."
Hearing this, Vivian Lynch quickly lowered her head and replied, "I understand, Mr. Yardley."
"You may go."
Closing his laptop, Ethan Yardley also stood up and went upstairs.
Just as he reached the study door, his phone rang.
He pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was Sylvia Schuyler.
A wave of disgust washed over him at the thought of that woman.
Still, he answered the call.
On the other end, Sylvia Schuyler said,
"Ethan, let’s meet."
Ethan Yardley’s patience was wearing thin.
"I have nothing to discuss with you, Sylvia. Whatever I owe you, I’ll pay you back with money. Please don’t come looking for me again."
His relationship with Serena was finally warming up.
He couldn’t let any other woman jeopardize the bond he was building with his wife.
Sylvia Schuyler chuckled softly. "I’m not asking you to take responsibility for me anymore. I just want to say a final goodbye."
"Save your goodbyes for yourself."
Ethan Yardley didn’t waste any more words on her and hung up.
...
Sitting in her high-rise luxury apartment, Sylvia Schuyler was so furious that she smashed her phone.
’What right did Ethan Yardley have to treat her like this?’
’Since he was so cruel, he couldn’t blame her for being vicious in return.’
...
After working in the study until nine o’clock, Ethan Yardley finally went to the bedroom.
This time, he went directly to the master bedroom and pushed the door open.
To his surprise, Serena hadn’t locked it from the inside.
Ethan Yardley strode in.
Serena Yardley was sprawled on the bed, doing practice questions on her phone.
Seeing the man walk in wearing loungewear, she abruptly sat up and looked at him. "What are you doing in here?"
A handsome smile played on Ethan Yardley’s lips, his voice full of allure.
"To continue what we didn’t finish earlier."
He stood by the bed and began to unbutton his shirt.
Watching his actions, Serena Yardley was suddenly at a loss, and she stammered nervously,
"W-what didn’t we finish? Stop being a pervert! Get out, I’m going to sleep."
Ethan Yardley paused his unbuttoning, sighing helplessly as he looked at the woman on the bed.
"Turning on me so quickly?"
Serena Yardley’s gaze darted away. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. Just go."
"Do you really want me to go?"
He feigned a pitiful expression, his tone softening considerably.
Serena Yardley stole a glance at him.
Seeing his furrowed brow and melancholic expression, she felt a pang of sympathy for some reason.
But...
’But she wasn’t ready yet.’
’Besides, she had been drunk that night. She had no idea how they had even... done it.’
’She didn’t even know what it felt like.’
’Now he wanted to stay, and if two people slept in the same bed... sparks were bound to fly. Just thinking about it made her blush with shame.’
She quickly averted her gaze, flopping onto her stomach and kicking her legs. "I don’t care! You’re not allowed to sleep with me! Get out!"
"Alright! I’ll go."
Seeing that she still hadn’t accepted him, Ethan Yardley decided to respect her wishes.
But before he left, he said in a slightly hoarse voice,
"But, Serena, I hope you don’t make me wait too long. After all, we’re husband and wife."
"There are some things we don’t have to do, but sleeping in separate beds is a major taboo for a married couple."
With that, he walked softly out of the room.
Only when Serena Yardley heard the door close did she finally lift her head and take a breath.
’Husband and wife? A major taboo to sleep apart?’
’Does he think she’s clueless?’
’As if she’d fall for his nonsense.’
But...
Serena Yardley was really curious... what exactly had happened that drunken night?
’She couldn’t just keep running away from it forever, right?’
’Besides, she was twenty years old, at an age full of vigor. It was only natural to have... certain needs.’
Rolling around on the bed, she was torn with indecision.
「The next day at noon, at school.」
After her classes and lunch, Serena Yardley made a special trip to her dorm to hang out with her roommates.
But when she got to the door, she found it locked from the inside.
She raised her hand and knocked.
After she’d been knocking for a while, Kylie Cross finally opened the door. Seeing it was Serena Yardley, she pulled her into the dorm, acting all secretive.
Serena Yardley asked, "Why do you have the door locked in the middle of the day?"
As she walked into the room, she saw her other three roommates huddled around a laptop, watching a movie.
She walked over and asked, "What are you watching?"
"SHHH!"
Her roommates motioned for her to be quiet.
Serena Yardley looked at the laptop screen.
When she saw it was *that* kind of "action movie," her face instantly turned beet red in disbelief.
"You... you guys are actually watching this."
Her roommates quickly covered her mouth and pretended to warn her,
"Don’t you dare tell anyone, or the four of us will beat you up."
"Serena, come watch with us."
Her roommates pulled her down into the mire with them.
Serena Yardley wanted to resist at first, but in the end, she couldn’t fight the temptation.
But after watching it, she felt... off... for the rest of the day.
