Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 124: How About We Go Home and Have One?
Hearing what Serena Yardley said, Quinn Gardner turned to look at her.
He retorted, "If I had told her everything, would she still have married me?
I know it was wrong to take Leo’s bone marrow behind her back, but this way both children could have lived. Couldn’t I have just slowly made it up to them later?"
Serena Yardley suddenly flared up.
"Put yourself in her shoes. If Nina had a child with another man and only married you to use your child to save her child with that other man, would you accept that?"
Quinn Gardner was speechless.
Put that way, he could actually understand Nina’s perspective.
But what was the point of talking about it now? The child was gone, and Nina had grown to hate him.
’Isn’t everything beyond repair now?’
Hanging his head, Quinn Gardner was suddenly lost, unsure of how to face Nina and their son.
"You men are all so self-righteous."
Serena Yardley angrily pulled away from Ethan Yardley, turning her anger on him.
"You’re just like him. It’s no wonder you’re brothers—you’re scumbags of a feather."
Ethan Yardley sighed in resignation. "We were talking about him. How did I get dragged into this?"
’What Quinn did was definitely wrong,’ he thought.
AHEM!
’I’m not so bad, though. At least I don’t have a child with another woman, I haven’t fallen for anyone else, and I definitely haven’t slept with anyone else.’
’As for Sylvia Schuyler, I cut ties with her the moment I realized what I truly wanted in my heart.’
Ethan Yardley considered himself to be far better than Quinn Gardner.
"So now I can’t even talk? I can’t be bothered to rehash all the things you’ve wrongly accused me of. Just stay away from me."
Serena Yardley leaned against the car window, not wanting to even glance at the man beside her.
Ethan Yardley sighed, scooting closer to Quinn Gardner to whisper in his ear:
"’Of all people, only women and petty men are difficult to deal with.’ Don’t stoop to their level."
Quinn Gardner dodged away from him in disgust. "Your woman might be difficult to handle, but mine wants nothing to do with me."
He was currently wracked with worry.
’When I get home, she’ll force me to get a divorce. Even if I refuse, my life won’t be peaceful.’
’So I have to run away for a bit. If she can’t find me, let’s see how she’s going to divorce me.’
Looking at the assistant who was driving, Quinn Gardner ordered, "Arrange a trip to Zetania. I’m leaving first thing tomorrow morning."
The assistant replied, "Yes, sir."
Ethan Yardley asked, "What are you going to Zetania for?"
"To hide out."
"..."
Ethan Yardley seemed to understand.
’That makes sense,’ he thought. ’If he hides for a while and Nina Thorne can’t find him, she’ll probably give up on the divorce talk.’
’The guy’s got his tricks.’
Serena Yardley, who had been listening from the side, quickly pulled out her phone to text Nina Thorne.
Quinn Gardner saw what she was doing and exclaimed in exasperation,
"They say you’re supposed to encourage couples to reconcile, not split. Are you just dying for me and her to get a divorce?"
Serena Yardley froze, turning her head to look past Ethan Yardley at Quinn Gardner.
"What you did dealt a devastating blow to Nina. You can’t even begin to imagine how she feels.
I’m not dying for you two to split up. I just want to do whatever I can to help Nina."
"And has she ever considered how I feel?"
Quinn Gardner asked Serena Yardley, his eyes rimmed with red.
Serena Yardley just looked at him, silent.
Quinn Gardner’s voice was low and hoarse. "Clementine is already gone. I don’t want to lose them, too.
I admit what I did was wrong, but I was doing everything I could to save a child’s life. Was that so wrong?"
"Your biggest mistake was hiding it from Nina and forcing Leo," Serena Yardley shot back.
Quinn Gardner was at a loss for words.
He didn’t want to say any more. ’There’s just no reasoning with women.’
Ethan Yardley pulled her close and said in a low voice, "Serena, don’t get involved in their affairs."
Serena Yardley shot the man beside her a sharp glare and knocked his hand away.
She went ahead and sent the text to Nina Thorne anyway, telling her that Quinn Gardner was leaving first thing in the morning.
Upon receiving the news, Nina Thorne immediately called Quinn Gardner.
Quinn Gardner was still in the car. Seeing the caller ID, he shot Serena Yardley a resentful look and answered the call.
On the other end of the line, Nina Thorne’s voice was calm.
"Quinn Gardner, running away won’t solve anything. Come back so we can talk this out properly and have a clean break."
Quinn Gardner’s lips tightened. Remembering it was his fault, he did his best to keep his own voice low.
"I’ll do anything you ask, except get a divorce. If all you want to talk about when I get back is a divorce, then I’m not interested."
"And you think we can possibly continue our marriage after this?"
"Why not? Ethan and Serena went through so much, and they still have Sylvia Schuyler coming between them, but aren’t they doing just fine now? Why can’t we?"
Hearing this, Ethan Yardley’s eyes darkened as he glared at Quinn Gardner. "What the hell are you talking about?"
’How dare he use me and Serena as an example?’
’Has he lost his mind?’
Serena Yardley grew angry as she listened, her suspicious gaze landing on Ethan Yardley.
Ethan Yardley’s survival instinct kicked in, and he quickly leaned toward her to explain, "Don’t listen to his nonsense. I barely know Sylvia Schuyler."
Serena Yardley didn’t respond.
’Looks like I need to take this Sylvia Schuyler person seriously.’
On the phone, Nina Thorne continued,
"Don’t drag other people into this. Whatever Ethan’s faults, he loves Serena with all his heart. He stayed faithful to her for thirty years. What about you?
You’re nothing like Ethan. For the sake of the years we’ve known each other, since we were kids, just let me go. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in constant agony."
"Then we have nothing to talk about. Take care of Leo. I’ll have the finance department wire money to your account for your expenses. I’m hanging up."
Before Nina Thorne could say another word, Quinn Gardner hung up.
He motioned to his assistant. "Drop me off up ahead. You can take them home."
"And you, sir?" the assistant asked.
"Don’t worry about me. I just want to be alone for a bit."
Ethan Yardley wanted to stay with his friend.
But seeing that the woman beside him was still angry with him, he had no choice but to stay with her.
The assistant dropped the two of them off at the gate of The Sovereign Villa, then quickly drove off to find his boss.
As soon as Serena Yardley got out of the car, she rushed inside to be with Leo.
But as she was about to enter Nina Thorne’s house, Ethan Yardley stopped her.
"Serena, it’s not good for you to keep getting involved. Let them sort out their own problems. Come home with me?"
Serena Yardley pursed her lips, her face full of displeasure. "How am I getting involved? I’m going to look after Leo. Now, move."
"So you really like kids, don’t you?"
He stood in the gateway, blocking her path.
"None of your business."
Serena Yardley tried to push past him.
Ethan Yardley stepped forward, pulling her into a firm embrace. He lowered his head and murmured enticingly in her ear, "Why don’t we go home and make one of our own?"
Serena Yardley was stunned into silence. "..."
’Make one? Isn’t he voluntarily childfree?’
’Or maybe... ’
As a thought struck her, she shoved him away and shouted angrily,
"Ethan Yardley, I told you! Even if I stay with you, I will not have children for you! If you want a baby that badly, go find someone else to have one with!"
She skirted around him, pushed the door open, and went into the villa.
Ethan Yardley was left speechless. "..."
A sudden, bitter pang of sorrow welled up inside him, leaving a sour taste in his mouth.
