Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 144: Serena, Let’s Get Rid of the Child
Before Serena Yardley could even respond,
Mrs. Miller came over with a fruit platter, set it down, and chuckled. "Ma’am, you don’t know yet? Miss Serena is already expecting."
"Hm?"
Sophia Quinn looked at Mrs. Miller, not quite understanding.
Mrs. Miller continued, "Miss Serena is pregnant. She was probably too shy to tell you."
Seeing how kind the lady was and how she seemed to genuinely want a grandchild, Mrs. Miller couldn’t help but blurt out the news of Serena Yardley’s pregnancy.
Upon hearing this, Sophia Quinn’s eyes widened in surprised delight as she turned to the person beside her.
"Serena, are you really pregnant?"
Serena Yardley didn’t intend to hide it and nodded.
"Then why didn’t you send the news to the family estate right away?"
Sophia Quinn was suddenly overcome with excitement. She stood up and paced in front of Serena Yardley a few times, then patted her on her thin shoulders, her smile impossible to contain.
"You silly girl, how could you not tell us such wonderful news sooner? Were you planning to visit the estate one day and give us a big surprise?
You’ve really made me so proud. I didn’t bring any gifts for you today, but I’ll have someone send over some bags and jewelry later.
Quick, stand up and let me have a look. Are you showing yet?"
Serena Yardley was pulled to her feet. Standing before Sophia Quinn, she said in a low voice,
"I think it’s only been four weeks. You can’t tell."
Sophia Quinn touched her flat stomach. "No, you can’t tell. But Serena, you’re too thin. Whatever you want to eat, just have Mrs. Miller make it for you. You have to eat more for the baby, understand?"
Serena Yardley nodded.
"Oh, I can’t wait. I have to take this news back right away and let everyone at the family estate share in the joy."
Sophia Quinn looked at Serena Yardley again and asked, "Do you want to come back with me? If you’re free, you should come along."
Serena Yardley shook her head. "Ethan Yardley said he’d be back soon. I’ll wait for him at home. I can go back with him later."
"Alright then. Take good care of yourself and the baby. I’ll be going now. And remember, whatever you’re craving, just have Mrs. Miller make it. Eat more."
"I will, Mother."
Sophia Quinn was ecstatic to learn she was going to be a grandmother.
Her first thought was to hurry back to the family estate and tell her father-in-law and husband.
If they knew the Yardley Family was about to have a direct-line grandchild, they would surely be even more thrilled than she was.
After watching her mother-in-law leave, Serena Yardley sat back down on the sofa.
For some reason, seeing her mother-in-law’s reaction made her feel quite relieved.
Aside from Ethan Yardley’s reluctance, it seemed everyone else in Yardley Manor was very kind to her.
Even the young aunt-in-law, who was only about ten, was also very nice to her.
’Such a warm and harmonious extended family has accepted me. What more could I ask for?’
’So, Serena Yardley, stop fighting with Ethan Yardley.’
’For the baby’s sake and your own, you have to make this marriage work.’
...
An hour after her mother-in-law left, Ethan Yardley finally arrived.
It was noon by then. Mrs. Miller had just finished making lunch, and Serena Yardley was helping set the table.
Hearing a noise at the entrance, she looked up and saw the man walking in, dressed in casual clothes. She offered a small smile and greeted him first.
"You’re back."
The moment Ethan Yardley saw Serena Yardley, he was reminded of the terrible thing he had done.
Racked with guilt, he didn’t dare to look at her. He just mumbled, "Yeah," and went to the washroom.
Serena Yardley thought he was acting a bit strange.
But she didn’t think much of it. After arranging the bowls and chopsticks, she sat down to wait for him.
Ethan Yardley quickly came out of the washroom, walked into the dining room, and sat down across from Serena Yardley.
He still didn’t look at her, keeping his head down as he ate his food elegantly.
Serena Yardley felt his behavior was very unusual and asked, "Is something wrong?"
"It’s nothing. You should eat more."
His gaze flickered as he placed some food on her plate.
Serena Yardley lowered her head and took a couple of bites before speaking up. "Earlier, Mother..."
"Serena."
Ethan Yardley cut her off.
Serena Yardley looked up at him. "Yes?"
"About the baby... if you feel you’re still too young and don’t want to have it, then I’ll make the arrangements for us to go to the hospital and terminate the pregnancy."
He didn’t want to force her anymore.
’A beast like me doesn’t deserve to have a woman in the prime of her life bear my child.’
’If she still wants a divorce, I’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau with her right now.’
’I cheated in this marriage. I have no right to keep her tied to me.’
’And I can’t pretend nothing happened, hypocritically acting all affectionate around her.’
"What did you say?"
Serena Yardley was stunned.
