Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 25: Then Let’s Get a Divorce
Pushing the door open, he saw Serena still sitting on the floor and strode over.
Standing before her, he looked down at her. "Serena Yardley, do you admit you were wrong?"
’If she would just bow her head, admit she was wrong, and apologize to Sylvia, he wouldn’t actually lock her up and starve her.’
’She was his, after all.’
But Serena kept her head down, not saying a word. She hugged her knees, leaned against the side of the bed, and refused to even look at Ethan.
Seeing how stubborn she was, Ethan snapped, "It seems you haven’t learned your lesson. In that case, you can stay here and keep thinking about what you’ve done."
He strode away and slammed the door.
Serena slowly raised her head, her small face so pale it was drained of all color.
Aside from the ache in her heart, her stomach was also rumbling loudly from hunger.
But she would rather starve than go and apologize.
「Downstairs in the dining room.」
While Ethan was eating, he couldn’t help but instruct Mrs. Miller, "Get her something to eat and bring it up."
Mrs. Miller, who was in the middle of feeding Sylvia, paused and quickly nodded. "Yes, sir."
After Mrs. Miller went upstairs with the food, Sylvia asked with false concern, "Ethan, what’s wrong with Serena?"
"It’s nothing!"
"What did she do to make you so angry?" Sylvia asked again.
Ethan suddenly lifted his eyes to look at Sylvia across from him.
When Sylvia noticed Ethan looking at her, she immediately put on her act, her eyes staring blankly ahead. Her chopsticks fumbled around the table, failing to pick up any food.
Convinced she was truly blind, Ethan served her some food himself.
But he still didn’t say a word.
Sylvia fumbled as she lowered her head to eat and asked again, "Ethan, if we get married in the future, what are your plans for Serena?"
Ethan paused, an image of Serena suddenly appearing in his mind.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "I’ll divorce her, but I won’t let her leave me."
Sylvia was stunned. "Why?"
"I’m her only family. Without me, she has nowhere to go."
"But we’ll be husband and wife! How can you keep your ex-wife by your side?" 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Sylvia."
Ethan’s face darkened as he cut her off coldly, "I’m married to Serena Yardley right now, yet I’ve kept you by my side."
Sylvia was instantly speechless.
’So even if she forced Ethan to marry her, he still wouldn’t abandon Serena?’
Sylvia gritted her teeth, trying her best to appear unfazed.
She suddenly laughed and nodded. "You’re right. After all, Serena is an orphan. It’s fine, Ethan. If she stays, I’ll get along with her just fine."
"Good."
Ethan believed Sylvia to be just that understanding, and his guilt toward her deepened.
Thinking of the one who had been constantly defying him lately, he felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest.
Mrs. Miller came to Serena with the food and said in a low voice,
"Miss Serena, have something to eat. You haven’t eaten all day."
Famished, Serena looked at the food in Mrs. Miller’s hands and asked, "Did you bring this up secretly on your own?"
"No, he’s the one who asked me to bring it to you. He couldn’t bear to let you starve."
After helping Serena up from the floor and onto the small nearby sofa, Mrs. Miller advised her with gentle persistence,
"Miss Serena, although I don’t know why he brought another woman home and is taking such good care of her, he still has you in his heart.
You can’t just be dispirited. You have to be strong, or else you’ll give others an opening."
Serena was silent.
’She was so tired. She didn’t want to fight over him with that woman anymore.’
’Ethan is such a sharp, decisive man. He must have already made up his mind.’
As the thought of the child in her womb crossed her mind, Serena ate, the food tasting bitter in her mouth. She asked,
"Mrs. Miller, if two people are destined not to spend the rest of their lives together, is there any point in them staying together?"
Mrs. Miller sighed, "I suppose that depends on the person. The most important thing is to not leave yourself with any regrets."
Serena fell silent.
It had once been her dream to marry Ethan.
After her dream came true, her greatest wish was to have a son and a daughter with him.
Now she was pregnant, but Ethan didn’t want her to have the baby.
And now, because of Sylvia, he was wrongly accusing her again and again.
’Since I’m destined to divorce Ethan, what am I even holding on for?’
Finishing her dinner with tears in her eyes, Serena went into the bathroom to take a shower, changed into some loungewear, and after composing herself, left the room.
Standing on the stairs, she saw only Mrs. Miller and Sylvia in the living room downstairs, but not Ethan.
She turned and went to the study.
Pushing open the door and seeing Ethan was indeed inside, Serena called out his full name, "Ethan Yardley."
Hearing this, Ethan looked up to meet the girl’s gaze from the doorway.
The way she called out "Ethan Yardley" made his chest inexplicably tighten.
Serena walked into the study and stood before the man. Though her heart was breaking, she pretended to be calm and said,
"I want to move out. That way, I won’t be able to hurt Sylvia, and it will give you two more time alone together. Is that okay?"
Ethan was speechless.
His eyes cold, he watched her as he listened to her words. His expression instantly darkened with anger.
Serena mustered her courage and continued,
"After I’ve gotten used to living without your love, I’ll come to you and ask for a divorce. By then, I won’t be afraid that I can’t live without you.
But don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself when I’m on my own. And I’ll work hard to prove that I, Serena Yardley, can live just fine without Ethan Yardley."
’She couldn’t bear to leave the man in front of her.’
’But rather than suffer his cold shoulder and be berated because of another woman, she would rather leave with some dignity.’
’She needed her dignity, too.’
"Serena Yardley, do you think you’ve grown wings?"
Ethan suppressed his rising temper, his gaze fixed coldly on Serena.
’With that naive, clueless way about her, she’d starve to death in three days out there.’
"I’m just here to let you know, I’m going out to find a place first thing tomorrow morning."
Not wanting to stay any longer, Serena turned to leave.
Ethan barked coldly, "How long are you going to keep this up? Can’t you learn to be a little more understanding like Sylvia?"
Serena froze. Hearing Ethan tell her to learn to be understanding like Sylvia struck her as utterly ridiculous.
She gritted her teeth, about to retort, when she heard Ethan’s icy voice again.
"I didn’t hold it against you when you pushed her down the stairs, causing her to go blind.
I brought her back to take care of her, and I can overlook you putting those things in her bed. But if you keep acting this unreasonable, I absolutely will not let you off easy."
After hearing Ethan’s words, all the hurt Serena had been suppressing finally erupted. She spun around and shouted at him,
"That’s right! I’m not as understanding as she is! I did everything.
Don’t you just want to get rid of me and marry her? Then let’s get divorced right now! I refuse to watch my own husband dote on another woman every day. It’s disgusting."
