Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 355: Fail And Flee
Chapter 355: Fail And Flee
Sebastian should have known that things were not going to go the way that he wanted. The moment that his plan to destroy the memory card had failed. He had managed to find a cop who was willing to bend the rules for a price.
For a while it had seemed as though they would be able to come through for him. But the officer had disappointed him. Coming to Sebastian with some sob story about nearly being suspended, because they had been caught walking around in a restricted area when they did not have access.
"Why take the money and agree to do the job if you knew that you did not have access to that particular room?" Sebastian had asked and the man had delivered yet another set of bad news.
Apparently the room where the evidence was being kept had not always been off limits.
But now it was. All thanks to an old battle axe of a woman. A detective who was pulling every string that she could to make sure that the Haven Molson case was solved. According to the officer that had failed Sebastian.
The woman had been part of the original team from twenty years ago. She was calling in every favour available to her to make sure that nothing went wrong with the investigation.
The only reason that Sebastian had not added the man to his body count, was that he had at least been able to give the older Haven a glimmer of hope. Apparently while his nephew had been in the waters, being tossed against rocks like a ragdoll. The memory card had been destroyed, splitting into pieces.
The specialists at the police station were unsure if they would be able to retrieve information from it, but they were trying. The fact that they had not given up was not good. But knowing that the card had been damaged had bought Sebastian a bit of time.
So rather than sitting around, panicking.
Sebastian had decided to go destroy the car.
After a few hours at the search site, people had packed up and returned to the city. Which meant that the bridge no longer had any eyes on it. He could go out there and burn the car like he should have done twenty years ago.
And that was exactly what he had planned on doing.
At least until he had opened his front door and found himself staring right at a gun aimed at his chest.
A gun being held by his sister-in-law. Who was looking at Sebastian like she was waiting for him to sneeze so that she could unload it on him. Sebastian was a well known liar, but now he was being completely honest. He had thought that he was a goner for sure. That Cassandra had found out the truth, and was going to blow his brains out.
But by some miracle, he found himself still alive. Kneeling on his living room carpet, and begging his snake of a sister-in-law, not to kill him.
"Cassandra, Jane, whoever told you two that I had something to do with the deaths of your husbands is a liar," That earned him a slap from Jane Molson. Seriously, what was with her and slapping. Was this how hoodlums like her communicated.
"I will ask again, Sebastian,. Did you kill our husbands?" Cassandra’s question was emphasised by her pressing the gun more firmly against his head. Something that Sebastian really wished that she would not do. He could hear just fine afterall.
"Cassandra I swear to you. I would never dream of hurting Jasper. He was my brother. Jane..." He tried to look the other woman in the eye, but the gun made him wary of moving his head too much.
"I did not even know your husband. What reason would I have to kill him. As for your children, why would I hurt my own nephew and the woman he loves. That makes no sense," Sebastian really wanted to tag on an ’Are you crazy!’ But he stopped himself. He did not want to invite any more trouble into his life.
"Sebastian you can deny it until you are blue in the face. But your name keeps popping up no matter which way we look. Just be honest for once in your life and end all of this" Cassandra actually sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
Wow.
Sebastian would have actually been moved, if he cared about anything other than staying alive.
But since protecting his own neck was his top priority. He did not care if the ice queen actually had a heart beneath all of that frost. She was still pointing a gun at him.
"Cassandra I-" His next words were drowned out by the gun going off. It was so close that Sebastian could have sworn that he felt the bullet whizz past. The smell of gun powder still assaulting his nostrils, he looked up. Finding two pairs of empty eyes staring down at him.
Oh, Sebastian realized for the first time. They were serious. This was not some game of chicken where they were seeing how far to push him before he cracked.
Cassandra and Jane actually intended to do him harm.
Either he talked, or he died a painful death. One that would leave pieces of him on his carpet. Sebastian did not want that at all. But he still briefly entertained the idea of staying quiet. And dying that way. Maybe Cassandra would go down for his murder. But he had gotten away with murder for twenty years. Most likely Cassandra would never even be a suspect. He did not put much faith in her being caught. Confessing was his only option.
But someone out there was looking out for him. Just as Sebastian opened his mouth, both Cassandra and Jane’s phones began to ring.
He hoped that Cassandra would make the mistake of answering. But he had no such luck. She ignored hers, and it was Jane who answered.
"Hello, yes, this is Jane Molson," And then after that, things just fell in line for Sebastian. Jane was already heading towards the door before the call ended.
"Its the kids, something is wrong," She called out. And for the first time Cassandra’s gun moved away from his head. The woman quickly making her way over to her friend. Instead of just leaving like he expected them to, they turned back one more time.
" If you tell anyone about this Sebastian, we will not be going down alone. I have too much dirt on you...do not test me." Cassandra said, and just like that, they were gone. Leaving Sebastian to collapse on the rug. Realizing for the first time that his pants were a type of wet that had nothing to do with sweat. He felt his cheeks heat in embarrassment.
But all things considered, it was a small price to pay considering how things could have gone.
What followed after he finally got himself cleaned up, were some of the most stressful hours of Sebastian’s life. He could have stuck around to find out what was going on. But given the way things were going. News from the hospital would end up being that Derek and Emily had woken up with superpowers and were on their way to his place, to take him down.
Which was why Sebastian decided it was best that he relocate to another country that very night. Whether his departure would remain permanent or be something temporary, would all depend on how things went at the hospital.
He sincerely wished for a death in the family.
Running the company from abroad would be very difficult.
